More on the homeschooling ruling in CA

More info on the ruling in CA this was posted on Diane Keith Flemings e-mail alerts that I get. I know I speak of her often she is amazing. She has watched closely the events that could eventually affect us all as home schoolers. She also has click schooling and carschooling to mention a few.

Dear ClickSchooling Members,

Thought some of you would be delighted to hear this good news...

The San Jose Mercury, San Diego Times, and World Net Daily are all
reporting good news for CA homeschoolers. Here's a blurb from World
Net Daily...

Homeschooling gets green light from court Reverses ruling that
parents had no right to teach children

C 2008 WorldNetDaily

An appeals court in California has ruled that state law does permit
homeschooling "as a species of private school education" but that
statutory permission for parents to teach their own children could
be "overridden in order to protect the safety of a child who has been
declared dependent."

The long-awaited case resolves many of the questions that had
developed in homeschooling circles across the nation when the same
court earlier found that parents had no such rights - statutorily or
constitutionally - in California.

Send a Monarch to Mexico 2008!
PREVIEW: Exciting New Plans for Symbolic Migration!

How to Participate
To send your symbolic monarchs to Mexico, you will print, make and mail these 6 pieces:
http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/symbolic/Make.html

Timeline (print and keep)
http://www.learner.org/jnorth/sm/Timeline.html

WHAT'S NEW?

* This year, your class will make, personalize, and send a booklet as a gift for the child in Mexico who will care for your butterflies. Information in Spanish about the monarch's famous migration is not readily available to children there. The 14-page booklet, called "The Life and Migration of the Magnificent Monarch Butterfly," tells the story of the monarch's migration and the Symbolic Migration.
http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/symbolic/Make_Booklet.html

* All of the butterflies from your class will travel together in a "cluster packet." A student in Mexico will receive and display your colorful cluster packet in their classroom this winter.
http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/symbolic/Make_Cluster.html

DON'T FORGET:
All participants must add their classroom to the map. Show others where you are. Students like to see their location and all others on the map in the fall.

Drama info

From: Kara Saunders <brandnewtheatre@live.com>
Date: July 31, 2008 6:27:02 PM CDT
Subject: Free Introductory Classes in August at the Brand New Theatre Co.

Hi Everyone,
I hope you have enjoyed a relaxing summer. I want to thank those of you who attended Summer Drama Camps. Each one of you made an excellent contribution to our lively groups and I, for one, had a wonderful time. I look forward to seeing all of you at BNTC in the future!
I know that you have many after-school activity options this fall. As you consider them, I hope that you will keep the Brand New Theatre Co. in mind. This September through November we will be offering after school acting classes for students of all ages. I encourage you and your children to attend a free introductory class at BNTC this August. These classes are designed to allow our previous students to get together before the classes start and to allow new students to try out the class before making a commitment. If you have given consideration to Acting classes in the past, these free introductory classes are the perfect way to "try us on" and see if we are the right "fit" for your child. Please check the schedule below and let us know if you would like for your child to attend.

Acting I -
Ages 4 to 10
Monday August 18th - 4pm to 5pm
Monday August 25th - 4pm to 5pm
Note: In September classes may be split into two age groups.

Acting II -
Ages 11 to 13
Friday August 22nd - 3:30pm to 4:30pm
Friday August 29th - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Acting III
 - Ages 14 to18
Monday August 18th - 5pm to 6pm
Monday August 25th - 5pm to 6pm

Improvisation
 - Ages 13 to Adult
Friday August 22nd - 4:30pm to 5:30pm
Note: In September Improv classes will be split into a beginner group and an advanced group.

Students are invited to attend one or all classes that are geared towards their age groups and parents are welcome to observe our August classes as well. We hope to see you there!
Also, please keep your eyes open for other arts education opportunities as the Brand New Theatre Co. joins forces with the Agora Arts Collective. In the coming months the Agora Arts Collective hopes to offer classes in a variety of art forms at our new studio in the Fontana Shopping Center.

Enjoy the rest of your summer,
Kara Saunders
Artistic Director
Brand New Theatre Co. and
Agora Arts Collective

P.S. We are revising our email list for the fall. If you know someone who would like to be added or if you would like to be removed from the list please let us know. Also, if you are not interested in Drama updates but may be interested in another art form (dance, music, creative writing, visual art etc.) please send us an email letting us know what type of arts updates you wish to receive.

Calling all volunteers

Hello!

As you know, Clark Theatre has been promoting young talent and a positive atmosphere in Tulsa for thirty years.  The Clark Recreation Council was established as an advisory body to the theatre and is comprised of interested participants, parents and community members.  The council helps in a variety of ways to enhance the programs and park goals for Clark Theatre.

The CRC needs your help!  We have a number of volunteer positions that we would like to fill for the next season of plays (September 08 though August 09).  We are looking at increasing the number of fund raising activities next season and “grow” the experience of the youth participants, not to mention possibly update the facility.

If you can spare a few hours each month or would like to know more about the operation of the council, please make plans to attend the meeting this Saturday, August 9, at 10am at Clark Theatre.  We usually try to conclude our meetings after one hour.

If you have any questions, just email me back. lanelittlefield@verizionbusiness.com

Thanks for your support!

Lane Littlefield, CRC Treasurer

I have all my supplies and books so we are ready to go. We learned cursive writing last year, it is so awesome to see your childs handwriting emerge, to watch the g's and f's look more like letters than snowmen... Lol.... Isn't it fun to see them learn.? This has been an interesting summer I have met so many new homeschoolers, how exciting! See you in a couple of weeks, Sunny

    Transparent Butterfly aren't they beautiful~~~

It comes from Central America and is found from Mexico to Panama. It is quite common in its zone, but it not easy to find because of its transparent wings, which is a natural camouflage mechanism.

A butterfly with transparent wings is rare and beautiful.    As delicate as finely blown glass, the presence of this rare tropical gem is used by rain forest ecologists as an indication of high habitat quality and its demise alerts them of ecological change.  Rivaling the refined beauty of a stained glass window, the translucent wings of the Glasswing butterfly shimmer in the sunlight like polished panes of turquoise, orange, green, and red. All things beautiful do not have to be full of color to be noticed: in life that which is unnoticed has the most power.

     This is incredible!

    Really something isn't it?
    Thanks Vicky

Please be careful before you back up!

    Hello:

We do not want to assume that everyone automatically knows who Steven Curtis Chapman is; but if you've been following the news lately you know his family has been touched by a backover tragedy.  Chapman is one of the most visible and influential figures in Christian music.  He has sold over 10 million albums and has won five Grammy awards.  Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, have six children – three biological and three adopted young girls from China.  On Wednesday, May 21, their youngest daughter, 5-year-old Maria Sue Chapman, was killed because her older brother simply could not see her in the large blind zone behind the SUV he was backing in the driveway.

People Magazine has an article in their June 9th issue entitled, “Grief Beyond Words.”  (pages 83-84).  People Magazine included information about backovers in a special sidebar entitled, “A Preventable Tragedy” with a link to our website.  www.KidsAndCars.org  This is an excellent way to help their readers learn about just how often children are being backed over.

May has been a particularly tragic month for children being hit by vehicles. (backovers and frontovers)  During the past 2 weeks, at least 12 children have lost their lives all over the country.  There also have been many more incidents where children have been critically injured.

May 28, 2008  Child hit, killed by car - St. Petersburg, FL

May 25, 2008  Toddler Accidentally Run Over, Killed In Church Parking Lot - Whitewater, WI

May 24, 2008  Woman accused of hit-and-run death - Lower Onondaga Park, NY

May 22, 2008 17-month-old Rainer Girl Dead After Father Backs Over Her with Jeep - Rainer, WA

May 22, 2008  2-Year-Old Girl Hit By Car, Killed by Family Friend - Greenwood, SC

May 21, 2008  Toddler hit by pickup, killed - Waynesville, FL

May 21, 2008  Toddler dead after being hit by car in driveway - Swisher, IA

May 21, 2008  Steven Chapman's daughter killed by SUV in driveway - Franklin, TN

May 20, 2008  Mom kills tot in driveway tragedy - Garland, TX

May 19, 2008  7-year-old is run over by a pickup - East Dubuque, IL

May 15, 2008  2-year-old dies after being struck by vehicle - Longview, TX
