One of the things we've (ah, er, um.... I've) let slack off and fall to "non-priority" was nature studies. *sigh* Living on Oahu, we've experienced a lot of islands-specific elements in nature that we've thorougly enjoyed, but we've not taken the time to add them to our nature journals. Now, in our final 30 days on the island, I think we're going into hyper-drive for capturing as much as we can before we leave.
Here is my daughter's most recent journal entry (click to enlarge):
She went outside to observe and sketch the Common Mynah Acridotheres tristis and within a few minutes she was back inside asking for a piece of bread. Apparently there were a bunch of them outside but none would hold still for her. LOL So yes, I let her take some bread out. (No, we're not above bribing even the birds.) She sketched the Mynah a few times before settling on the one shown above. She read about the Mynah in a couple of books I have on hand and picked out one fact she thought was interesting to include in her entry. |
