We subscribe to God's World News magazine and are anxiously awaiting the new school season of this newspaper. My DD9 will be getting the 4th grade issue! Heftier/meatier content. *gulp*
Anyway, I went to the GWN website to see what was new and came across this headline Schools juggle holidays for other faiths.
This sure was an interesting read. I can agree that it would be incredibly difficult (aka IMPRACTICAL) to close schools for all holy days of all religions, but I do like the part that mentioned "floating days" for students. Of course *I* say this because I'm a Christian and it happens to be very convenient in my mind for Christmas & Easter to be school off days. (if we were PSers, that is.) But I do see the point for those of other religions.
Anyway, just thought it was interesting. Definitely a touchy issue, one worth consideration by all parties. Businesses deal with this same issue too.
Homeschooling I don't have to worry about it. Well, I take that back. Except for "cultural days"... like King Kamehameha day here in Hawaii (June 11th by the way.) That did throw me for a loop once when I tried to go to the public library but it was closed in observance. LOL It also happened to us on Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day (March 26) once. I guess I've just got a thing for going to the library at the wrong time. LOL (Yes, I've gone there after hours a few times, only to find it closed, too! Imagine that! hhmmph!)
