Today started off lovely. I awoke early (gotta love the East-facing windows in the bedroom!) and caught up on a few email. The golden finches were out in droves this morning. LOL Well, we had nine on our two finch socks! That's a lot for us at any given time! DD awoke ( I love the look of her face in the morning, she truly looks young at that moment) and DS later. (DH woke in between there, too, and went to the gym!)
Before a bit of homeschooling this morning we watched some of an old video tape of my DS when he was little (oh, about 6 or so.) Too cute! I had forgotten how his voice sounded back then. He sure was a ham in his younger days. Ten years later, he's just a BIGGER ham!LOL
DD did two pages of math today. Flying colors on that. It was just toooo nice of a day, so that was all. She played at the neighbor's yard in their little pool. The neighbor kids played over here for a while on the patio and ate icecubes. (LOL) Two of the neighbor girls came over (at different times) and played inside in DD's room for a bit (that's always a treat!) And after dinner DD went to the playground for just a little bit before shower time.
Me, I decided the garden/containers will probably need watered 2x a day while it's hot and no rain is forecasted. So during the 1st watering of the day I noticed the cabbage butterfly was fluttering around and had been hanging out on some broccoli leaves. I observed it for a while and continued watering. Eventually it flew away. So I decided to check and YEP!! Butterfly eggs!
Well, I don't mind the butterflies in my garden but I know I'll have to watch for caterpillars... don't need them eating up my plants! Anyway, I cut off a leaf that had 3 eggs on it and fashioned a caterpillar habitat for it. (I'm optimistic that they'll hatch, LOL) So we'll see. I hope at least one manages to hatch and grow. DD would love to watch the whole process up close!
I'll try to remember to take a photo tomorrow of the "habitat." I got the idea from this book,, which is AWESOME!!! I highly recommend it!
If we get a hatch-out, we'll have to whip up a buttefly habitat for it/them (also from the book.)
This afternoon I ran out and bought more Claritin for my seasonal allergies (I had forgotten how horrible they were since it's been years since I've lived back in the Midwest! aack!) and took a library book back since we'd forgotten it yesterday. (I hate when that happens!) Then I popped over to Joann's and used a bit of a git card I'd gotten from my sister and bought some new yarn to play with. Nothing fancy or expensive, just something new to look at while I practice and learn more about crocheting.
Dinner was a hit with the kiddos. I made turkey meatballs with brown gravy, eggnoodles, and steamed cauliflower. Nothing fancy but very filling. They loved it. I scooped up a dish for DH to take to work tomorrow for dinner. And some lucky person can have the leftovers for tomorrow. LOL
So, this evening, with DH at work, DD playing outside, and DS also occupied, I went out and gardened again. Glad I did as I noticed not only the morning glories starting to vine upwards but one of the tomato plants as a "big" tomato on it! (big.. hahaha.. about 2.5" across at this moment.) I had no idea! It must have been hiding! So that was a nice surprise. And the green zebra tomato plant is finally starting to flower as well. Another good thing.
I watered the grass in a couple places for a while with the sprinkler. While it ran I watched the gold finches on the feeders, watched the sprinkler water shimmer in the setting sun and wrote in my garden journal. Nice and relaxing. The sprinklers weren't on very long, but every since I've been watching robins plucking up worms from the grass! Now, It's truly nearly dark here and still they're out there! Glad to have been of some help to the birds! |
