You know you're behind on laundry when....

  • you go to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer and the clean clothes are already dry.
  • when you make sure you always have a bottle of white vinegar handy in the laundry room to "freshen up" the already washed (but not yet officially dried) WET laundry. It makes a wonderful deoderizer.
  • when you have to use beach towels to dry off after a shower because all the bath towels are on the laundry room floor.
  • when you have enough clean laundry to fold that it warrants popping in the newest arrival from Netflix, so you'll have "something to watch" while you fold the mountain.
  • when you start thinking you need to buy more pajamas because there aren't any in your dresser drawer.... yes, they're in the laundry room.
  • when you begin to overlook the color combinations your daughter selects to wear because she's picking from what she has available.... and the choices are limited.

If any of these apply to you it is TIME TO GO DO A LOAD OF LAUNDRY!

How did I come up with this off-the-wall list of impossible events? Don't ask as I won't admit to anything.   Just think of the list as a fluke of the imagination. I'm a homeschooling mother, afterall... surely I can get creative, right?!

(side note--- additional information and insight has been posted into the comments section of this blog.... so be sure to read those too!)

Does the vinegar water really work? I am afraid I have needed it all too often lately!

Well.....

if , *IF* i ever really was behind on my laundry, LOL.... I'd tell you yes, it does work!

No, really. It does. Actually, I tend to use white vinegar in every load of bath towels no matter what. I just add it into the "Downy ball" instead of fabric softener. (I never use liquid softener on the towels as it degrades their absorbancy.) But when you have a load of laundry that you forgot about (*gasp!*) and you go to change it to the dryer and find it is a tad bit "sour"... just perk it up with a new water run through cycle with a few glug-glugs from the viengar jug, no additional detergent! It will be cleaner than ever and the sour smell will be gone! And yes, buy it in the big jugs, not the little glass bottles. You're doing laundry with it, not coloring Easter eggs!

I just wanted to say "thanks" for sharing your sad story... unfortunately, I can't understand at all where you're coming from... but appreciate you trying to let me see how the "other side" lives. (Okay... I can't contain myself any longer... I'll add to this when I get a chance... laundry is my worst enemy... there are 8 of us in the house, so one day being sick, and it's all over!!!... and how 'bout the summer "oh I'm wet mommy and I need to change" blues?!!! This was great! Just remember... in heaven there will be NO LAUNDRY!!! AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Blessings,
Amy

Angie:

I loved your "You know you're behind on laundry when...." section for today...

I am actually CAUGHT UP on laundry (washing maybe, but oh well, not putting away! I will spill the beans here later) for the FIRST time in a long time.

And not that you are asking for advice......... but here are some of my secrets...

* I had dh buy a duet washer/dryer and they hold a LOT. I can get a pretty big load done.
*I have a SMALL laundry basket upstairs that we ALL (six of us now) use for laundry every night and every morning and I empty it EVERY morning.
* I sort that "small" amount (yeah RIGHT! 6 pairs of everything: socks, jeans/shorts/pants, shirts, plus 5 pairs of underpants, and then a dozen cloth diapers) of laundry BY COLOR into about EIGHT SMALL upright (medium size trash cans that are all lined up along the wall next to my stackable washer/dryer combo) laundry baskets in the laundry room.
* When one basket is "full" (I do NOT wait until they are HEAPING anymore; learned that lesson), then I wash.
* I wash towels every other week (we have a bunch of them and we use them for two or three days before sending them to the laundry room).
* I do laundry EVERY day, about three loads per day, and NEVER take a day off (unless we are away from home or mama is SICK) and then I play catch up VERY quickly.
* I almost always fold right away (right out of the dryer, although sometimes I have to do a 5 minute fluff if they have sat in there too long). I do NOT remove them from the dryer until I am ready to fold. I sort clothes as I fold them, into stacks (each person) and then put each person's clothes in a separate pile or basket, depending on how much stuff I have.
* DH carries up the "full" baskets when he comes home from work or before bed.
* I almost always put away everything I washed first thing the next morning.

Oh, and the disclaimer is that I have been out the past two days and TIRED today, so although I washed my three loads per day, I have not put ANY of it away, so I have four laundry baskets OVERSTUFFED with clean folded, sorted laundry in my bedroom that I need to put away, but will probably NOT have time to do it until Sunday morning (and I say that as I sit here typing to my heart's content right now instead of putting away the laundry; for SOME reason, I only have the energy/desire to do that "chore" ) first thing in the morning.....I hate putting laundry away when I am "tired"!!

You know you're behind on laundry

Posted by spunkyhomeschool
when you laundry broke 3 days ago and the new one still hasn't arrived. And you're six children are wearing the same clothes they wore the day the washer broke. Not that I have any first hand experience!
