Art With a Purpose • Jan. 14, 2008

I've seen a lot of curriculum come on the market in the past eleven years of homeschooling.  One of the first things I purchased was Art With a Purpose, and it has served us well with each child.  I didn't realize until I was looking for the above link that the individual Art Pacs were so reasonably priced.  Here I've been using the same one for every child, but at $8 per pac, each child really could have their own.

I'm not an artist and I struggle to come up with projects for the little ones.  Art With a Purpose Art Pacs have given me projects that are quick to pull together and not a big deal to produce.  Certainly there are flashier art products on the market, but for the price and the simplicity, Art With a Purpose is a good bet.

Yesterday our six-year-old spent a happy 15 minutes waiting for everyone else to be done with their school work.  Here's what she accomplished:

Happy girl, happy mom, cute Mrs. Snowman.

Next time I'll write about a fabulous art program we've loved that is geared more toward the 6 and up crowd.

Thanks for sharing. Will certainly look into it. Its refreshing to see a homeschooling mum who confess her poor art inclination, cause I'm such too. Which is why I struggle teaching art to my children, and has been looking for a good art program.

Looking forward to more sharing from you in this area.

Coincidentally, I had just read your post this morning and then went to the Rod & Staff website to check on some grammar curriculum. Guess what I found on their site! Art with a Purpose! Apparently, they publish the Artpacs and on their site (www.rodstaff.com) you can purchase the Artpacs for only $5 each.

Thanks again for your helpful and insightful posts. I read every single post you write! Hope things are going well with you and your unborn son!

Thanks for the tip Kendra! I am not a natural artist either, but I think art is an important part of the curriculum. I'm always looking for mom-friendly resources! Today, we start our first lesson from "I Can Do All Things." We'll see how it goes!

Cute! - Jan. 14, 2008

Art projects are my favorite- but I am very creative. Fortunately, so are my children, so they learn well through artsy fartsy stuff!

Btw, I have a "Give a little Encouragement" giveaway... maybe you know a few people who could use one or two of the items.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely keep it in mind. I am TERRIBLE in art and my poor children probably get to do a project about once every six months! Now there's a reason to be thankful for Sunday School!

$5 from the site you linked to - Jan. 22, 2008

I bought the kit from the site you linked to (how's that for some good salesmanship, Kendra??!) BEFORE reading Amberly's comment but I wanted to put a plug in for the site you linked to...they called me and let me know that they have the newer version of the artpacs (which sound like they are the same but bound more nicely) and the older version. They wanted to know which I wanted, because they didn't want to charge me more than I wanted to pay (even though I had seen the $8 price and that's what I thought I would be paying). So I opted for the older version, which they too sell for $5.

I was impressed that they called, though!
