Amazing! - Feb. 18, 2008

My name is Anna and this gift would be incredible to win!!!! I love homeschooling because I love being with my kids. I love seeing the light bulb moments and all the "firsts." I love that I don't have to contend with the junk that my friends kids come home with from school. I love that my kids are becoming best friends and that they love to spend time together. I love that we can go on vacation on the off season and that we can stay up late on weeknights if we so desire! I really do love home schooling!

How exciting! - Feb. 19, 2008

I don't enter many contests, but who could refuse such a beautiful prize!

I began homeschooling because of what I hoped it would do for my children, but I soon realized I would benefit from it as much or more than they. I love what homeschooling is making me: more patient, more disciplined and more cautious, to name a few. Someone recently asked me if homeschooling is hard. I said, "Yes. I'm exhausted, but it's an investment." And it's worth it!

What beautiful books! :)
I love homeschooling for many reasons but this year I discovered that my daughter is dyslexic. I love homeschooling because it enables me to teach each of my children with the curriculum that best suits them and we can take our time and make sure she (and my boys of course) really understands each concept before moving on to something new. I also am dyslexic but didn't know until last year. I am loving school with the kids because I am learning so much right along with them. It is much easier the second time around through school! :)

Being a Homeschool Mom - Feb. 19, 2008

Shared by Betty
Lately, what I've loved about being a homeschool mom is learning things for the first time WITH my children. We are all learning together and it is so exciting.

I don't know where our family would have been if we had not homeschooled. Homeschooling is something that the Lord put on our hearts and the "forced" interaction and intimacy that it has created between our children and between us and our children has been an unexpected pleasure and blessing.

I could go on....

Blessings,
Betty

How do I love homeschooling, let me count the ways! I love just being with my sons and seeing their hearts. I love being there when they finally "get" a concept. I love that they love each other and see each other as true friends. And I love having time to truly be a family, and not have our time tied up by the requirements of the institutionalized school.

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is seeing the relationship between my kids (although we do have our moments) and between my kids and those who are younger than them. I often get comments from other moms about how sweet my kids are to their little ones, especially my 7 year old son who loves little boys and takes time to play with them. It's a constant reminder of my misconception of the socialization argument, which was my biggest argument against homeschooling several years ago. My, how things change!

Contest for non-US resident? - Feb. 19, 2008

Shared by Delci
I'm not from US, but Singapore, and wonder if I qualify.

But, that is not important even if I don't. Will still love to share why I love homeschooling.

I love being with my children, to see them grow, to see them smile, to see them cry, to see them fall and learn from their mistakes.

In times to come, they will have their own career, family, and children. That will be the time when I will have to let them go.

For them, the simple pleasure of life, is enjoying the beautiful gift that God has blessed us with.

What beautiful books! I would LOVE to have them for our kids. Why do I love homeschooling? I love the fact that I know what my son is learning and am there to make connections with him between what we're learning in school and the real world. I love being able to see him finally get it for the first time (eg. reading). I love spending quality time with just him each morning while the little ones are busy with their own tasks. There's many more...but you only asked for one!

Just enjoying the kids all day long is the best thing about homeschooling. I can't imagine sending them off for 14,000 hours, yes that is how many hours they would spend in school K-12, and only having and hour or so a day with them. Priase God for freedom!

Can't Wait to really get started! - Feb. 19, 2008

I am just starting. I have 2 children who are preschool/kindergarten age right now and a 3 month old. I love spending time with them and getting to know them. I love seeing them learn new things and the excitement they get from learning. My oldest has just begun to read. It is such a thrill! And I really, really love the fact that my husband and I are the ones who will shape their character, not other children or teachers who don’t share our faith and values. I know there will be tough seasons ahead, but I look forward to being my children's teacher. I just can't imagine letting anyone else have that privilege!

I love homeschooling because I love being around my children! I love being the one who sees them "get it", or being there if they want someone to cuddle and read with. I love that they are very close now and when my daughter was first in public school she was not close with her brothers except on vacation breaks. I love the fact that they don't get sick as much anymore and I love that they are learning to love learning.

What I love most...hmmm, probably getting to spend the day with my children reading, learning, making memories, doing fun crafts...things I would not get to do with them otherwise. Seeing them learn new things. Seeing all their milestones - educational ones and non-educational ones. There is nothing like hearing your firstborn read her first book to you!! :)

I love homeschooling, and am very thankful for the opportunity to homeschool our children. I love it because of the security it provides for our children, for the opportunity to teach them about God and the Bible, for getting to watch them as they understand a new concept, and for the opportunity for them to learn more about a subject if interest dictates. Sometimes I don't love this part when it's in the moment, but I also appreciate how much I learn about my own sin and character defects through being with these precious little people all day.

why I love being a homeschool Mom - Feb. 19, 2008

Shared by paige
This is my first year homeschooling: 4th grade, 2nd grade, K and a preschooler. I knew what God was asking us to do, I just couldn't have imagined the blessings. I love how the relationship with my 9 yo dtr has changed, so that her most frequent comment to me is " I love talking with you, Mom. I know that I can tell you anything." I love seeing my 8 yo son's imagination take off, so now he is not just looking for the right answer, he is asking "Why is that the right answer?", and his best friend is his brother. I love having been the one to unlock the door of reading for my 5 yo son. For getting to be the one who gets a 'high five' when he sounds out a hard word. For being the one who gets to have the conversation with him about why it was important that Jesus shed His blood for him. I love that my preschool daughter thinks her siblings rock because they play with her, and they think she rocks because she tells them 'good job' when they have done well on their schoolwork. I love that they get the best of me, and I get the best of them (well, most days that is!!) because we are home together, not all spread apart for 8 hours a day. I love that the "principal" of the school prays for us and we get to share in the struggles and triumphs. And I love that I will never look back and say, "Gee, I really regret all that time I spent with my kids. What a waste." That no matter the choices they may make as adults, that we have brought them up in the way they should go, without an 'if only' or regret to be had. That is why I love being a homeschool Mom. TGBTG

Before we brought our boys home from public school, I prayed that they might be mighty men for God. Since we started homeschooling, I have begun to understand better my God-given role in that process. I delight not only in watching them grow in wisdom as they study, but especially as I watch them tend to laundry, cooking, and chores, (and one another) and think to myself how BLESSED their wives will be to have them one day. Thank God for this priviledge!

The thrill of homeschooling is just too awesome for me to bear, sometimes. Yes, there are frustrations and struggles, but...I, the Mommy, get to the be the one guiding my children, teaching them from a Biblical perspective through all subjects. I get to be there when the light bulb goes on and they "get" something new! I get to read, cuddle, play, run errands and do chores at home, all along teaching them life skills that I never really properly learned growing up.

As I said...my list is too long to post, but I am just so grateful that the Lord has allowed me the privilege of homeschooling my precious children! And that He gives me the grace to do it...(and blogs like yours, which have provided SO much encouragement along the way!!!).

Many blessings to you and yours in Christ,

There are so many reasons I love homeschooling my children. One of the the top ones would have to be that I get to learn so much more than I did when I was in school...my children can go with me on errands that they wouldn't other wise be able to...I have the freedom to include our LORD and Savior in every subject that is taught...we can sleep in when we've had a late night...I get to kiss the principal :))...the children get to see me learning...it has made my children some of my best friends...I love that homeschooling has taught me to be more patient, humble, that the LORD has used it to draw me closer to himself..and so many more things. What a wonderful offer! Thank you; and I want you to know how much I have learned and gained through your blog and website.
One of the best things about homeschooling for us is how close our family has become--I can see how close we all are, especially when I see how other families can be so distant from each other and seem like everyone in the house is living different lives! Our family does just about everything together, and my children don't know any different. I don't think the younger ones even know that there are families out there that don't do things together.
Anyway, I love my family and thank God for them and for the opportunity to be able to be with them all the time!

I love so many things about homeschooling, even though we just started this year with my 4-year old.

I love being the *first* one to explain to her the many things that we take for granted as general knowledge. It's a big, wonderous world out there as far as a young child is concerned! Everything is so exciting and new! Their minds are so fresh.

I think another reader already said this, but I, too, love that I don't have to wonder what my children are doing all day away from me.

I love that my 3 month old has 2 playmates who have lots of time to love him to pieces! I love that my girls have the time to learn how to care for a baby and run a household by watching/helping me through my daily routine.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to win this set of books! Several of them have been on my wish list for a *long* time!

These books are so beautiful, and I drool over them everytime I see them on a website! :o) I am Rachel, and one thing I love about homeschooling is that I can guard my children's hearts. God gave my hubby and I the verse Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." and we use it as our theme verse for our homeschool. OK, I can't say just one reason... another one is that I literally can teach our children when we sit at home and walk along the road, or lie down or get up! Oh, I could go on, but I better stop!

Hi Kendra,
One of my favorite parts of being a homeschooling mom has been getting to be there when my kids "click" with reading. Reading is one of my favorite activities, and it has been thrilling to see them connect with books...crying at a sad ending, laughing at funny parts, having to read aloud a particular moment just because they had to share it with someone.

I delight that home education affords the heart's desire to raise up our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, to talk with them when they rise up and lie down and walk about the day the ways of the Lord and His Word.

I love homeschooling because I never "have to" put my children on a big yellow bus and cry all day because they are away from me. I love being able to take a vacation in February or September, or taking the day off just for fun. I love knowing that they are learning more about God and so, so many other things that they would never learn from the government.

What a great contest! Thanks!

My favorite thing about homeschooling my children is seeing them develop deep interests and relationships in the Lord. I am with them all day long to weave scripture into their lives, helping them understand how the ways of the Lord work in our daily lives. I am there to keep them encouraged and from loosing faith when it may seem that God has forgotten them or doesn't care. I am with them to pour truth into their minds when the enemy is prowling about, looking to snatch them away.

I love being a homeschool mom for so many reasons but you asked for only one. I love being a homeschool mom because 3 of my kids have special needs and medical problems and home homeschooling allows me the flexability to help my childrens' hearts and spirits through difficult procedures without having to worry how many days of school they are missing.

As a homeschooling Mom I am so blessed homeschooling my children. We have our many challenges, but I wouldn't trade this "character training" for anything else...in me as well as them. Even with my children home it seems they are growing up so fast that if I blink I may miss it, and I am so grateful that they love each other and are each other best friends (ages 11 down to 2).

I love homeschooling because I love sheltering my children!! YUP! I love that my children are still innocent. I love being able to teach them what we believe and not letting someone else raise my children. I could go on, as I'm sure you know, but I'll stop. ;-)

I love being home with my children daily. I love watching them interact with each other. I love seeing my older children read to the younger children, play with them, teach them. I love knowing that my children are best friends with each other. I love knowing that their lessons are from a Biblical worldview. I love being able to work at their pace. I love being able to take time off when the flu hits our home. I love life-learning, and sharing it with my children. I love that going to the library is still one of their favorite things to do. I love snuggling up and reading with my children. I love being their mom, and their teacher.

What I love about being a homeschool mom? Being with my kids. That simple.

Growing up my parents were painfully clear that my sibling and I were an inconvienence to them, and we were parked in daycare at an early age.

I can't imagine not being the first one to see my son write his name or sound out his first word. I love sitting at the front window helping my 4 and 5 year olds count the different kinds of birds that come to our feeder. And I especially love starting our mornings eating breakfast all together, practicing our memory verses and then starting our school day with worship.

I really do have the best job in the world. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to reflect on why I homeschool.

Entering The Giveaway! - Feb. 20, 2008

Shared by Dawn
I'd like to be entered pretty please! I prayed quietly, well sometimes loudly but mostly quietly LOL for years (8 years to be exact) that my husband and I would be of the same mind in regards to homeschooling. I thought it best, he did not so I deferred to him. At the end of this last school year our children had just ended the 7th, 5th, and 2nd grades and I had enrolled our 5yo for Kindergarten. When I enrolled our 5yo the Lord gave me great peace about it, which shocked me, why would the Lord give me such peace NOW?

Now I know why I had such peace. In June of this year the Lord burdened my husband's heart about it and he said, they aren't going back - not now, not ever and we have been joyfully homeschooling our children since August.

So back to your question...what do I love about being a homeschooling mom? I love that the Lord has blessed me with this honor, this duty, this absolute privilege to educate our children and raise them up in the Lord. I will never, ever take it for granted. I love the time I get to spend with my children each day, I love teaching them something new and seeing their precious eyes sparkle in delight. I love that it's no longer just a dream to homeschool someday, but my reality today! I love that I am the one who is teaching them what the Lord would have them know, instead of what others think they should know. And lastly I love that the 8 of us total in our household (and one sweet blessing on the way as well) are all learning together! Praise the Lord!

Sorry I didn't mean for this to be a novel, but when you asked that question I just couldn't leave the story out of it.
Blessings, Dawn

Hello. My name is Lisa. I love homeschooling my children because it gives our family the opportunity to live as a FAMILY. I love seeing my children delight in each other and see each other as their peer group, their friends. I am glad that I do not have to send my children off to another building for hours every day. I enjoy learning subjects with them, knowledge I would not be learning if I didn't homeschool them. I love being able to kiss and hug my children throughout the day and most of all, be able to teach them about our Lord!
Thank you for reading my comments and blessings to your family!

Why I love homeschooling - Feb. 20, 2008

Shared by Anonymous
There are too many things I love about homeschooling. I love watching my children grow to know the Lord more everyday. I love discipling them in the ways of the Lord. I love watching the delight when they learn something new. I love being able to be patient with them when they are struggling to learn something. I love praising them when they finally get it. I love learning with them and their faces when Mom doesn't know the answer lol! I love watching their friendships grow as we learn something together. I love having 8yos that would rather spend all night in the cold watching a lunar eclipse than watch tv. I love everything about it.

Thanks for entering me into your fab contest. Those books are AMAZING.

There are so many things to love about homeschooling! Having my children with me all day, watching them develop those sweet relationships with their siblings, being there for each opportunity to be Jesus to them, being able to disciple them all day, being the one who taught them to read, and watching their eyes light up proudly when they do. To be able to spend these short years with them daily before they marry and move out. As my oldest one prepares to graduate in May, to be able to see that I really didn't ruin her either! (I was really worried about that the first couple years!!)

Thanks for such a wonderful contest!

There are several reasons I love homeschooling, but one that stands out to me is that I love it when one of my kids comes running to get me because there is a really, really neat bird at the window...just like the one we've been reading about...or when we are watching a movie and the recognize the music or artwork! It pleases me to know that God has given me this opportunity to enrich their lives!! Ok,ok...maybe that's more than one reason! lol!!

The best of being a homeschooling Mom - Feb. 21, 2008

Shared by cvanarts
The are just beautifully illustrated books and an inspiration to my daughter(Angela).
I love homeschooling because it is flexible. It helps us cater our teaching to our children's uniqueness, freeing us from State imposed curriculum. It is a means of our sanctification from God--we teach but we also learn from the process. Lastly, it is the only way we can disciple our children - where our aim is the heart. There is no other place it can done but at our homes.

What I love most about homeschooling is the discipleship aspect. It's an incredible privilege to be able to mold a child for service to his Creator and teach him his proper relationship to a Holy God and His creation. I love that homeschooling and discipleship are one... that the glory of God can be seen in all that He has created and all that He has done throughout history. It is a pleasure to teach little ones to "bring every thought captive unto the obedience of Christ" not just in the spiritual but in all that God has revealed.

contest! - Feb. 22, 2008

Hello,
I'd love to win these beautiful books! Hmmm... something I love about being a homeschool mom: Watching my children learn to do things I thought I would have to sit down and "teach" them. Recently my 5 year old and 3 year old boys (I also have a 2 year old girl and another little one due at the end of March) have gained some neat skills that I had set aside to focus on in another season. It's been a difficult pregnancy in some respects so we've tried to keep our expectations lower and our cuddle-on-the-couch times frequent but in the meantime, these boys have just taken off and learned a whole bunch of reading skills on their own. So fun to watch!
Oh, and thank you for your blog. I don't often comment but I am a frequent visitor and have been repeatedly blessed by your writing and what you share.
thanks!

There are a myriad of things I really enjoy about homeschooling, but I love the fact that when we are having a crazy day we can grab a book and pile on the couch and relax and learn at the same time!!!!! When mama is tired and her feet hurt or she is just too pregnant to want to move we can learn in a very comfortable position. Reading aloud is definitely my favorite part of homeschooling.

Technically, I'm not a homeschooling mom yet. My daughter is 3. But it's never to soon to start planning! Hard to pick which thing will be my favorite, but I'm attracted to being able to choose your own schedule and pace, learning what and how best suits your child, learning along WITH my child and just the time of bonding and staying close with my sweet girl. Can't wait to start doing preschool next year! :)

I love homeschooling because of my children. It is wonderful to invest in their lives, being able to see all of their growth, and have the closest relationship I can with them. And the relationship they have together is so much better than when my oldest was in school. It is all about building relationships with each other and the Lord.

THere are many things that I love bout being a homeschooling mom. It's so hard to narrow it down to just one. I guess the one that covers the most things would be the fact that when my kids learn something new or finally "get it" after hours and sometimes days, of teaching them I'm the one that gets to see their faces shining!! I love knowing that I'm the one that gets that joy from them not some stranger.

I love being able to see the light bulb moment when my daughter learns something new, and the time we get to spend together learning new things. I love not having to get everyone ready in the mornings, loading them all up in the cold to drop Chloe off at school, and I love that we have the freedom to keep our children home where they belong and teach them our values, and teach them about our wonderful Savior. Oh and did I mention I love the fact that learning scripture is apart of school!!

What I really, really love about homeschooling is reading aloud. I love being able to share the stories with them. Last week, we read "The Cabin Faced West." I remember reading this book when I was little!

The Bluedorn's book was, and is, very encouraging to me that reading aloud is soooo important in the early years.

I love being with my children...I would miss them so much if they weren't here! I love when they "get it"...and I get to be the one to share it with them! I love drinking hot cocoa in front of the fireplace, while learning...teaching my daughters...watching my son learn from his father...and the blessing of our whole family being able to love, learn, live and laugh together all day everyday! I love tailoring their individual educations to the Lord's leading for each of my very individual children...knowing that it is better than anything curriculum that I could come up with! And, last but certainly not least...I love and rest in knowing that I am in my Father's will and that He will equip me and bless our efforts! Nothing is done in my own strength!

I love having my children underfoot. The (few) days that a friend has whisked them away for the day to give me a little free time were lonely and unproductive. I love my oldest daughter's hilarious sense of humor. I love my second oldest's desire to serve so readily and help her younger siblings. I love how my six-year-old son wants to pray immediately when he hears that someone is sick, dying, or sad. My almost four year old is so inquisitive, verbal, sweet, and smart, and my one year old son is adorable. If I wasn't a homeschool mom - I would be cheated out of truly knowing my children. I'm blessed.
