Chronicles of a family at home

Spring has sprung

Today, I knew that winter was over for good.  My hyacinths and crocuses (I'm sure that is not the correct plural spelling - Smallworld?) are already out of the ground.  It was t-shirt weather -- even shorts for some -- and even so, I felt a little over-warm as I sat on the playground with PartyofFive during Cub Scouts and American Heritage Girls.  Evidently, everyone had short-timers disease and the boys found themselves in free play instead of the usual pursuit of badges.  It was the right way to spend the time, given the fair weather.

It was there that Baby had his first experience in a REAL swing!  He has a baby swing, but this was different.  Much more adventurous.  And even Baby must crave the sun.  Everytime the swing moved forward and toward me, he giggled and showed his 4 razor blade teeth.  There's nothing better than a toothy grin when you only have 4 teeth.  Here he is, basking in the sunny day -- no blanket, no sweater, no coat:

[Many thanks to Tia for loaning me her camera and emailing the photo to me.]

He giggled for a while and then poof!  He passed out cold.  Slept in that swing on the noisy playground for 30-45 minutes while I got to talk to grown-ups.  It was sublime.

Like New Years, Spring fills me with resolution.  Earlier this week, I ordered the baby backpack carrier to end all baby backpack carriers.  It has bells and whistles that I am confident (as is the king) that I will never figure out.  I've declared publically that it is my intent to lose 50 lbs. by July 4th.  That was 2 months ago and the deadpan face of my digital scale hasn't changed its story since the first week after my declaration.  I plan to somehow insert a walk to my mailbox into each of my days.  I know a trip to the mailbox doesn't seem like a daunting goal, but my mailbox is one mile each direction, and let me tell you:  that mile isn't horizontal.  But I'm going to give it a try.  So put Baby and me on your prayer list.  He has to like it or it just isn't going to work.  And I really need this outlet for some many reasons... not the least of which is my brash statement made back in the cold, dark winter when Independence Day seemed the impossibly distant future.

Isn't it nice to think about all that luscious Vitamin D soaking in? If you walk to your mailbox every day, you will be a mere wisp of a girl by July 4! And what legs!

I enjoyed sitting with you and chatting, even though you wouldn't stop the swing for me! A mile to the mailbox sounds so nice...well for the spring anyway! We will have to come over and join you one day to keep you company as you go get your mail!
