Some of you have already heard I am sure, but our little 5 month old baby girl is very sick. We would appreciate your prayers at this time.
Sunday night at 7pm, we rushed her to the ER b/c she had been vomiting yellowish-green all day and then had blood in her stool. She was also a little raspy in her breathing.
Once there, the ER Dr. decided to admit her b/c her respirations were 55, her O2 was 82 and her heart rate was 200 or more. They believed she had pneumonia. However, her x-rays came back clear and her blood work looked fine as well. She passed a rough night in the Peds unit.
In the morning, the pediatric hospitalist came by and we told our story once again (which included an odd on again off again illness starting back on Tuesday). He immediately suspected intesuseption (that isn't the spelling, but the basic idea is a bowel telescoping into itself). We raced to radiology for an enema to try to locate the blockage and hopefully push it out w/ the enema itself. No such luck.
Baby had surgery at 2pm on Monday. The surgeon opened her up and immediately realized we had a big problem--her bowel was completely black. She opened her up more and realized that baby had a congenital defect that had caused her bowels to be in the wrong place, and at some point this past week, her small intestine had twisted into itself. The surgeon restrung her bowels in the proper order and superficially closed the wound, hoping to give the bowels a chance to pink back up.
Baby girl has surgery Wed morning at 8:30 to open her back up and see how much of the bowel is salvagable. We are praying that ALL of it is. IF all of it is healthy, we will most likely be in the hospital w/ her for 4-5 days. If not, we are looking at longer. It all depends on how much of the bowel must be taken and how well her weaning off the ventilators and meds and starting her on breast milk goes.
I am soooo very thankful to all of you who are praying, sending food, and watching the other children. It is so very hard as a mother to have to just sit there an watch your baby and know you can nothing. However, I am so glad that God's hand was in all of this as the doctors quickly worked to find the answers. I will keep you updated!
