Christmas in July

Posted in Random Thoughts

Do you think that it might be a little strange that I am already thinking about Christmas and it is still 5 months away?  I wonder how many other people are as strange as me.  Maybe it is because of the crazy high tempertures that we have been getting around here lately that makes me dream of colder days.

At any rate, one thing that I am determined to be on top of this year is sending out my Christmas Cards.  Yep, this year they will be made out and sent first thing.   I think that if I were to order them now, I could write them out and have them all ready to go as soon as Thanksgiving was over.

I think that if I could get this one thing prepared and ready to go, the rest of the season would go smoothly.  Of course it is still only July, so maybe I will wait a few more months.

It is funny, when it's cold out I dream of hot summer ays.  Now that they are here in full force, I' thinking Christmas.  Okay I guess I am a bit weird.

I Believe I Can Fly

Posted in Random Thoughts

Okay, here is a little known fact about myself.  I used to think that I would grow up to be a pilot.  I think it must have become a dream of mine right around the time I saw the movie Top Gun.  I was going to learn to fly me one of those super cool planes.  I especially wanted to learn to fly the smaller planes like Baloo in my favorite cartoon Tail Spin.

Needless to say that has never happened.  But I still would love to fly on one of those planes.  Do you know that you can charter yourself a ride on a private jet.  How cool would that be?  Now this kind of VIP treatment is not only available for the rich and famous.  It can be for anyone.  With Wing Aviation Charter Services anyone can fly like a VIP guest.

There is one catch though.

They only have charter flights in some states.  You can charter flights Oklahoma.  You can also charter flights in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.  That means I will just have to wait until something like this comes to Michigan.  Or until I move to Texas! (I am not really moving to Texas, just another dream of mine.)

Until then I will continue to dream of the day I can fly in my very own personal private aircraft.

The Rundown

Posted in Random Thoughts

I finally bought myself a laptop last night!  I am so super excited ! I wrote all about it here.  I really got a great deal with a few freebies of course :-)  I used some coupon codes to get the freebies which I've listed there also.

Today I have to go back to the dentist because last week they found that I have 2 cavities in my back molars.  What?  I am so serious about taking care of my teeth that I couldn't believe it.  My kids of course think this is funny.  Mom brushes her teeth almost obssesively and still gets cavities.  I am not happy about this situation or the fact that it is going to cost us almost $150 to do them.  I guess this will teach me to not be quite so hard on my kids.

I have spent the last couple of days trying to purge some of the stuff that has taken over our house.  It is amazing how it just seems to multiply and grow when noone is looking.  I am getting excited about the upcoming schoolyear.  This just feels like a season of new beginnings to me right now and I look forward to that.

Mean Little Buggers

Posted in Random Thoughts

I live in Michigan where there are no known infestations of fire ants.  These painful stinging insects inhabit many of the United States including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.  They have also recently been found in Missour, New Mexico and Nevada.

I never knew about these ants before.  But I am glad to know about them now.  Seeing as how the insects can be relentless there is a chance that they will make their way into the Great Lakes State eventually.  So it is good to be informed.

Especially if you live in one of the states mentioned.  Or even if you are planning on vacationing in one of those areas.  These ants bite in order to grab a hold of its victim before stinging with its tail end over and over again.  Doen't sound all that pleasant now does it?  I think if I ever go to one of the states mentioned I'll bring some fire ant insecticide.

Have you ever had any dealings with these mean little buggers?

Super Saving Saturday

Posted in Random Thoughts

I am sorry if you have come here looking for my Super Saving Saturday post.  I have it posted at This Side of Eternity.

As it turns out I have a lot to say which is why I have more than one blog going now.  I am planning to post about the rest of my trip to Chicago.  Hopefully it will be up tonight.

I have begun to get those homeschool catelogs in the mail.  I wrote a bit about how in the past these have been extremely dangerous to me and my family.  Maybe you have found yourslf at the bottom of this slope where I spent my first couple of years homeschooling.  If you would like to read about it you can find it at Welcome To Our Homeschool Adventures.

This Is Just A Season

Posted in Random Thoughts

I don't know why it is, but I am just now getting used to the idea that it is summer.  For whatever reason this year it hasn't "felt like" summer until about a week ago.

And just as I am getting used to the idea of it being a relaxing time of year I am rudely reminded that this too will not last.

I get up pretty early most days.  I like to get up with Rich in the morning to help him get out the door and say goodbye.  Then I have a couple of hours to myself to work on the computer doing whatever I feel like doing before my kids get up for the day.

I don't exactly like getting up at 5 in the morning, but I do love saying goodby to Rich and my treasured time alone.

Okay, so back to the reminder that I was talking about earlier.  Today it was noticeably darker out than it has been lately.  I mean it appeared that the sun was just coming up.  This means that fall is trying to take its place on the stage.

I love fall, but do you have any idea how much harder it is to stay up in the morning when it is still dark outside?  It just seems unnatural to be awake when it isn't even daylight yet.  I know I'm jumping a little ahead of myself here.  I have a nice chunk of summer left and I plan to enjoy every single bit of it.

New Rich

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have been thinking about how it might be damaging to a person who suddenly finds themself with a huge bank account.  I'm thinking of the people who go on different reality TV shows and afterwards find themselve ridiculously wealthy.  Or stuggling artists who finally get that big break.  I guess the correct term would be Nouveau Riche which literally means "new rich" in French.

If you have never had much money and then suddenly you have a ton.  It has to be a hard transition I would think.  I think it is obvious that there are numerous celebrities who find that one day they can pretty much buy anything.  But I also think that those same celebrities have to be constantly questioning themselves as to who their real friends are.  It seems like it would be a very lonely place to be.

Some of the people that come to mind are Oprah Winfrey, Brittany Spears, and Cinderella :-)  Anyways not sure why I wanted to share this, but there you have it.

I May Be Getting A New Pad

Posted in Random Thoughts

We received a notice from the Mayor's office this week.  Basically over the next 2 weeks they are going to be going through our neighborhood and ticketing anyone who they deem in providing blight to the neighborhood.

This is actually a great thing.  With all of the foreclosures in this area we have a ton of vacant houses that are in desperate need of a good lawn mowing.  They will be ticketing those who have overgrown grass and weeds, excess garbage, junk cars, and rodent problems.  This is all wonderful news to me.

The only thing we are even slightly concerned about was one itty bitty line in the notice that said all recreation vehicles must be on a Portland Cement pad in the back of your yard and five feet from any property line. We have a very small fishing boat that we keep in the driveway.  If we have to move it into the yard in will need to go smack dap in the middle of the yard to fall within the parameters that they've set.

I am really hoping that our boat doesn't fall into the recreational vehicles categoriy.  But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
