This is Gina's fault...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

No, it's all my fault, but I can see that I'm at the top of a slippery slope that leads to yet more and more "insulation" in the house over time.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about?  This is what I'm talking about:

Beginning of the stash

The picture does it no justice for it is a lovely mossy green and soft as a baby's cheek.  It was on the sale rack at Meijer for $1.19 and it called to me.  No, it sang a soft and convincing siren song to me and I picked it up off the rack and cuddled it close to my body, paid for it, and rushed out of the store.

So what's the big deal?  It's about $2.50 worth of knitting yarn.  Who cares?  Why talk about it like it's crack?

I know myself.

Soon I'll find other orphan balls or skeins of yarn that is pretty or soft and certainly on sale and they will find their way into my market basket and into my home.  I will have no plans for the beauty and loveliness of them, only to have them rest in my home and delight me with their softness until I can find a good way to use them.  Before long I will have a stash.  This is the beginning of it.

Before long, my stash will be bigger than Gina's, and she's been knitting for years.

How do I know this to be true?  I know this to be true because I have another stash that I've been working on for about 10 years.  It's a humongous stash of fabric that I use for quilting and sewing and other crafty sorts of things.  Once my children made maps of Africa delineating the different European countries which claimed various hunks of the continent, all using fabrics from my stash.

I told Gina that one day I will blog about my fabric stash but today I am blogging about my yarn stash, because I stand on the threshold of the momentous today.  I know that this is the beginning of bigger things.

We will not address my book stash.  At all.

We must be twins separated at birth... I just bought some clearance yarn that was calling my name, and I don't even really knit! I have cast on before and gotten a few rows going, and then quit or lost it somewhere.

I also have a small fabric stash, which is funny considering I do not really sew either- I can't even thread my machine, but I have finished two projects in my life- one quilt and one baby sling.

And books? I agree. We will not EVER speak about it. ;)

Oh, my dear. You would think by now that you would have the idea behind Pandora's Box, but here you go again...and you are doing it On Purpose!

You have been warned...but I know that "siren song," and all I can say is "enjoy the ride!"

I don't even quilt, but I have a book on quiltting and enought scraps to make several patchwork quilt if nothing else. I crochet and knit. I decided not to buy anymore yarn until I use up the closet full. But then I was given a pattern for knitting a pair of camo pants, so maybe I'll find some camo yarn, maybe. In all fairness, most of the material and yarn was given to me by my grandmother. Oh and I just bought a book on soap making for 99 cents. That is just what I needed another craft to learn and another book. Maybe if I rotate my dishes and squish them together, I'll have another cupboard for my books.

Isn't yarn beautiful? All those colors whispering potential as you pass by, seeing it out of the corner of your eye. I think an individual strand lassos itself out and grabs ahold of one and brings them on back to admire it and all the surrounding beauty.

I have loads and loads of yarn - enough to literally *stuff* two of the largest Rubbermaid tubs available plus one cabinet stuffed full as well. We are going to make afgans eventually with it all. Oh dear, I forgot to mention the bucket near my recliner that is overflowing with my "Surf n' Turf" yarn. *sigh* lol

I'm so glad you are enjoying knitting. :) I have printed up a pattern for a Sunbonnet Sue quilt, which I am going to use all of the dresses the girls have outgrown on. All the good quality, Land's End ones that are 100% cotton and very sturdy.

Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday and Monday!

Have you ever heard of this HUGE website that has been around for 8 years? I had no idea until 10 days ago and am really really enjoying it. SO so SO motivating. So many forums to choose from. Hundreds. I set up one, if you are interested. You can also use the website without being a part of any forum, tracking your daily healthy habits.

I am trying to pretend I have no idea what you're talking about.

I do not have yarn stashes... but floss, linen, fabric, beading supplies, paints...

and you are wise to set books outside the scope of this confessional.

Well... I do talk about my book stash. We moved into our current home in the spring of 2003. We had been living in a 4 bedroom home with 1600 SF. In one of the rooms, the entire closet had been converted to book storage space.

We have 6 very large bookcases now and have not found enough room for our books to completely unpack them all. An entire section of our unfinished basement is devoted to a large stack of boxes of books that have not been read since...

Have we stopped buying books? Why, of course not.
