Breastfeeding after adoption

Posted in Adoption

Does anyone have any personal experience with this?  Are we nuts to think that this is something good to do with our new babies?

Nice comments, please!

no experience, but I have heard of it and I would try it if I adopted a baby.

Jul. 12, 2005 - breast feeding adopted children

I don't have personal experience with it,but I"ve heard of it being done.I've read somewhere about that it's possible to breast feed a child you've adopted if you've breastfed a biological child before. It would just take a little while for the milk to come back in. La Leche league has this device that you put milk in and hang it around your neck and there is tubing that come from it that goes to each breast. That child nurses from your breast and at the same time gets some formula. I recommend contacting La Leche group.

You are AWESOME to think this is something good! Not only nutritionally but to further increase your bonds with this precious child. I have a cousin who breastfed her adopted baby, but I don't personally know much about it. I'd be delighted to pass on questions.... (((((HUGS))))) sandi
