Yay it's Friday!

Yay, it's Friday!

Walk the Line was an amazing movie.  I spent most of it going, "Is he really singing that or is he lip synching?"  (Both Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon did their own singing for the film, I found out last night.)  Of course, it had some negative stuff in it but by and large the negative actions brought negative consequences in the movie.  I don't watch many movies but I was very struck by this one.  That one scene (for those of you who've seen it) where Cash is confronting his father at the Thanksgiving meal is one that I've lived through in my own life.  Of course, our little scenario turned out waaay differently (and worse) so I was doing the duck and cover in my seat until it was over.  As an added benefit, we got to see it at the theatre, so the sound was loud and raucous.  I think it was an enjoyable film but also one that made you think on a number of levels.

Unfortunately, I had a lot of intestinal trouble last night, so I was up for hours, in pain.  With "Ring of Fire" going through my head over and over and over (thought I'd share the wealth this morning...I had Ring of Fire playing on my Xanga)  Also unfortunate was the fact that I woke Friend Husband up and he was also unable to go back to sleep.  We're going to be two tired puppies today.

Oh, oh!  Good news!  I called the county court yesterday to figure out what new paperwork we'd have to fill out to readopt the twins in the U.S.  I found out that I don't have to fill out reams of paperwork (yay!), we just have to show up at judge's chambers on the appointed day with the appointed paperwork and they'd take it from there!  Much simpler than I'd imagined.  So the appointed date is 3/16!

Well, the Four For Friday is not yet up, so I'll just plug in the Five On Friday here:

Last Will and Testament

1. Have you written your will?  Yep.  We finally got it done in 2004, much to my extreme embarrassment.  We should have had it done a lot earlier.

2. Would you prefer to be buried or cremated? Why?  I guess cremated because that'll make Doug "happier".  At least that's his plan.  I still like the idea of planting him somewhere and being able to go "visit".  He told me once that if I cremated him, I could put him in the living room and visit him every day.  I retorted that if I were entertaining gentleman callers, I wouldn't want him in the living room, looking over my shoulder.  Having his mother in my living room (which her ashes are) is bad enough.

There is a little country cemetery that my great-grandparents and a few great uncles and great aunts are buried in that I'd love to be buried in.  It's just so peaceful and pleasant, and you can plant whatever you want out there on the gravesite, unlike my own mother's grave, where you're not allowed to plant anything.  Somehow that specifically pleased her last husband and that's part of the reason he had her interred there.  But cremation is a lot less expensive and a lot less hassle.  I respect that some people would prefer to not be cremated for various reasons but I figure 1) I'll be gone and 2) We don't have the money to throw around on a typical American funeral so why not?

3. What do you imagine your funeral to be like?  Well, I hope they'll have it at our church building instead of a funeral home.  The building size will work for the amount of people who would come and I don't like the slick fakiness (not to mention the expense) of going through a funeral home.  I imagine people will be sitting around, as they do during the worship services, there will be the traditional a cappella singing, and the traditional sermon (rather than the eulogy which is traditional in other situations).  Since Doug will be in charge if I'm gone, I doubt there will be a graveside service, as there will be no graveside, and they'll all repair to a rented room to have a meal together.

4. What would you like to be remembered for?  Being a good Christian and a good wife and mother.

5. Do you believe in reincarnation?  No.

Here's some Friday Fun:

1. What would make your Friday fantastic?  Not having to do school.

2. Do you have a little ritual that makes you feel fantastic for the day?  No, not really.  Any suggestions?

3. What would you do to make somebody else’s Friday fantastic,… and why? The girls have computer math rather than pencil and paper math and we also have movie night after Friend Husband gets home.

And the Friday Feast:

Appetizer
How many pillows and blankets do you sleep with?  Right now 3 pillows and two quilts.  It's really cold in our room at night.

Soup
What are you currently "addicted" to?  Yikes...Xanga?  The internet?

Salad
If you could make a small change to your current routine or schedule that would make you just a little bit happier, what would it be? I think it would be to have a regularly scheduled pick-up time so that the girls didn't scatter and leave me with the mess and the twins to deal with.

Main Course
Which adjective do you find yourself using often?  Cool.

Dessert
Have you ever picked up a hitchhiker?  No, but Friend Husband has, after dumping us off at home.

Mar. 3, 2006 - Walk the Line

I also thought this movie was wonderful! What a story of God's redemption. The scene where Mr. Carter takes a shotgun to the drug dealer ought to be played for all the wusses at cT (the PokeBack Mountain review). It showed a man with backbone standing up for what was right.

The movie also did not attempt to paint Cash as a saint. I appreciated that. I have played "Hurt" on my iPod about a thousand times. I know it was originally written by NiN, but Cash's rendition brings home the fact that nothing matters except the sacrifice of Christ.

Very impressed with this movie.
