• Jul. 3, 2005 - How will You Recognize Truth?
|
Questions to Ask How do you know it is true? Where did you get that info? What happens if you are wrong? Colossians
2:8—“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and
deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic
principles of the world rather than on Christ.”

• Jun. 21, 2005 - A Matter of Perspective
|
I
have looked from my kitchen into my living room for years seeing
basicly the same thing every day. Legos not put away. A lone shoe.
Books tossed in the corner. The usually messy house. But one afternoon
the kids had left a stepstool in front of the kitchen sink. Before I
moved it back to the bathroom I stepped on to it just for fun. However
I was amazed at what I could see that I could not see before. The
stepstool is only maybe 5" high, not much when you look at it. But I
could see almost the whole floor from on top of that stool. And the
sink seemed so much farther away, but I could see into cabinets so much
better. Oh I guess I should mention that I am only 5'2" so that part
was amazing. lol .... But what really
srtuck me was that the stepstool was alot like life and our
perspectives will often change depending on where we are standing. We
can be looking at the same thing (a problem, a decision, a person, a
church) and depending on our perspective we will see it so differently.
And sometimes the higher we are when we are looking at the thing, the
more clearly we are able to see the big picture. A teenager we can only
see so much of the big picture, but parents can see a much bigger
picture. A lay person can only see so much of the church and the pastor
can see the whole church. Sometimes we need to imagine stepping on that
stepstool of life and 'see' the whole picture. And sometimes we need to
squat down to see what others see so we can communicate better.
Sometimes just 5" can change your whole perspective. Try it with your
own stepstool and find out if its true in your own kitchen.

• Jun. 17, 2005 - Hazel isn't a color
|
Hazel
isn't a color but a state of mind. Actually its a street where my kids
hangout, ride bikes, and have water wars with all the neigborhood kids.
It is a street with long sidewalks and chalkdust mazes in driveways.
Its about sharing cookies with your friends across the street. And when
you get locked out of your house or you forgot if the iron is on, the
neighbor has a key to your house, just in case.
