Oct. 1, 2008 - My Weekly Report

We had an interesting week.
My Fifth Grader:
Math:
Singapore Math 5A: He did reviews all this week.
Reading: History: Story of the World Vol. 1 chapters 10 & 11
Science: Christian Liberty Nature Reader 5 chapter 1. As I wrote last week, the Lyrical Science program was a bomb. My son kept complaining that they did not have all the words printed out in textbook. Once he did the workbook, he could not fill in the blanks to the whole song because he was not certain what it went where. We had to look at the answers and listen to the CD in order to understand what the words were. So, we went to the Chritian Liberty Nature Reader. He will use that as his science. His nature study is the research he will do through the FIRST Lego League team.
He reads two days Plutarch and then two days Shakespeare.
Writing:
Writing Tales 2- Lesson 4 This week was working on rough draft. The grammar lesson was nouns.
Grammar:
Growing with Grammar 5. He is working on chapter 2. He is learning about nouns this month.
Latin: Latina Christiana II lesson 2- Exercises A, B, Derivatives. The grammar lesson was on direct object.
Logic: Building Thinking Skills level 2 and Mindbenders B1
My 3rd Grader:
Math:
Singapore Math 2A: He is learning about measuring and weighing this week.
Reading:
History: Story of the World
Science: I am reading the Lyrical Life Science book to him. He is repeating the terminology. So, I am taking the Charlotte Mason approach and doing a tell back.
Grammar: I started reading a story called, Grammar-Land to him. We read the first chapter together. We learned about the king of Grammar-Land is a man named Judge Grammar. He is the judge and king of Grammar-Land. There is a problem among his noblemen who he call the parts of speech. We learned about the richest nobleman Mr. Noun. My son is enjoying this story. He keeps asking me all week to read it to him.
Latin:
Prima Latina: He learned about invisible verbs.
Logic:
Building Thinking Skills and Mindbenders A1
Writing:
Writing Tales 1: My son learned about types of sentences. He also read the Aesop fable of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. He had such a great time doing his rewrite that I am submitting it on the blog for your enjoyment.

I'm glad you found something for science that is working better. We are using CLNR Book 5 also to go along with our anatomy study.
Love your son's rewrite: "Better water and doritos in peace than cake and salsa in fear." Very good! :)
