Happy Birthday Jocelyn Dixon!

Posted on May. 9, 2008 at 12:03 PM

Photobucket

Today is Jocelyn's seventeenth birthday! In honor of that many of her friends are giving her a blog party and I am one of them! For a theme I chose to mix a few English eras....

My dress is from the Edwardian era and we can pretend  my book is Sense and Sensibility. :)

Now we must set the table - a beautiful table setting of china plates and cups, crystal glasses, silver flatware, candles and a linen tablecloth will be just the thing.

Here is a close up of your place....

The dinner is Elizabethan. Your main course consists of meatballs....

....and Shepherds Pie.

Of course we can not forget your cake! Here it is:

For your present I wrote you a poem that runs as follows:

My dear Jocelyn, happy birthday!
I pray in this coming year
The LORD and HIS word
Becomes to you more dear.
I pray you will be blessed
In many, many ways
And follow our precious LORD
All the rest of your days.

Happy Birthday!
Love,
Rebekah

The New Jerusalem

Posted on Mar. 5, 2008 at 4:22 PM

- - -

I recently found this poem that I wrote sometime last year and I wanted to share it. I never finished it but as I intend to write no more on it, I suppose it is complete.

In the new Jerusalem
How will it be?
What will it be like?
What will I see?

There shall be no sorrows there,
There shall not be any tears.
There shall  not be any dying there
And no, there will not be any fears.

There shall not be any crying there,
There shall not be any pain.
For God who rules in this place
Will everything sustain.

The fearful will not enter there,
Nor will the unbelieving.
Murderers, sorcerers, *****mongers and idolaters,
Shall be with those who lie and are deceiving.

They shall have their part in the lake
That is burning with fire and brimstone.
But there are those who will be in Heaven -
It is those who by Jesus are atoned.

The Holy Jerusalem -
How will it look?
What is it made of?
Let us take a look.

It has the glory of God.
Her light is like precious stones.
There is a wall both great and high
Are some of the things that are known.

There are twelve gates
Set in the great wall.
Three each on the north, south, east and west,
But still that is not all.

To the KING be all the glory!

Mansfield Park - A Review

Posted on Feb. 20, 2008 at 3:17 PM

- - -

Last May I finished reading Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.

Jane Austen lived in England from December 16, 1775 to July 18, 1817. She never married and lived with her family until her early death. She was the seventh of eight children. She had one older sister, Cassandra and six brothers. Her father was the rector of the parish in Steventon for about 40 years. She wrote several other works including, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey. All of her works, published in her lifetime, were done so anonymously. The author of the books was known as “a Lady”. Mansfield Park was Miss Austen’s third published novel.

Miss Austen started writing Mansfield Park around 1811. And was finished in 1813. It appears that the book was first published in the year 1814. The book was three volumes in one, each 18, 13, and 17 chapters long. More modern versions of this book are usually one volume containing 48 chapters. The version I read was an Oxford Illustrated and was as like as possible to the first edition, with a few modifications from the 1816 publication.

Mansfield Park centers around a young lady named Fanny Price. Her family is in a state of great poverty so at the age of 10 she goes to live in the house of her rich uncle and his family at Mansfield Park. Fanny grows up rapidly and by Chapter 3 she has reached the age of 18, where she stays for nearly the rest of the book. Fanny is very timid among her relations when she first arrives. Sir Thomas her uncle is very stern looking, grave and reserved. His wife Lady Bertram does not frighten her - Fanny loves her. Tom and Edmund her cousins, are rather older than her and being quite tall they intimidate her. Their sisters Maria and Julia look down upon her and make her uncomfortable and Mrs. Norris, another of here aunts is always giving her too many rules and trying to make Fanny feel as low and humble as possible. After Edmund befriends her, Fanny gradually becomes much more comfortable. Tom is kind to her and Fanny is always happy to be with her Aunt Bertram. The books shows Fanny as she watches the behavior of her cousins as they prepare for marriage. She struggles as she watches and listens to the hopes and plans of the man she loves, of marrying a women whose character is deficient of the good qualities it ought to posses. The man is blind to her character deficiencies. The book ends very well.

My favorite character is Fanny Price. She is so gentle, sweet, unselfish and loving to everyone, whether it be her rather lazy Aunt Bertram, her nagging and bossy Aunt Norris, proud Mary Crawford, her beloved brother William or her kind cousin Edmund. She is always ready to do anything (as long as it is not wrong) for anyone.

I would recommend this book as highly as Sense and Sensibility and that is very high. Mansfield Park is definitely one of my new favorites!

I Have Returned to the KING!

Posted on Jan. 4, 2008 at 10:21 PM

- - -

This is a testimony of what the LORD did in my life in the year of 2006. I wrote this poem in this last week. Praise Him for what He has done!

My life was dark
Like the deepest night
When there came along
A great Light.
I was so empty
Like a turned cup
When Someone came along
And filled me up.

I was depressed.
I lived for myself.
The LORD’s precious Word
On my shelf
I scarcely read,
Until one day
He caught my attention
That had gone astray.

I had promised long ago
To serve my King
But now I had wandered
His praises no longer in my heart did ring.
But praise the LORD!
To Him I have returned.
I love HIS Holy Word
That once I had spurned.

Praise the LORD!
I have returned!

To the KING be all the glory!

Apologies and Q&A

Posted on Nov. 24, 2007 at 4:35 PM

- - -

First of all I would like to apologize especially to Rachel, Jocelyn, Arya, Sylvia, Rose (from Rellamom) and anyone else who I have seemingly ignored for not returning comments. Our family’s DSL (our internet access) is broken and works so very slowly that I have great difficulty opening any blogs from HSB. I thank you all for your comments and please know that I am not ignoring you.

Q&A:
After my last post I was asked a few follow up questions. First I received the following question from Sylvia: “It was good to read your answer to Mary. I have another question to add: do you plan on doing distance learning to earn a college degree?” then this one from Amanda: “I like your answer to Mary too!! I was wondering what you will be doing for college also. I would like to take some classes at the local college here. What do you plan to do if anything!!”

Well the answer is no I have no plans to do distance learning to earn a college degree.  I have no reason to earn a college degree and therefore do not plan to do so.  After I graduate I plan to continue to study at home. I will be doing a lot of reading and writing. Maybe some more Science for fun. Hopefully I will be studying languages too. I would love to learn Hebrew and Greek as well as Spanish and Sign Language. More importantly then these I will plan to learn to be a Keeper At Home so that someday LORD willing I will be a good helpmeet to the man the LORD brings me. Most importantly however after I graduate I hope to study God’s Word even more than I do now and learn to know HIM better as a result.

To the LORD be all glory, honor and praise!

A little catching up...

Posted on Nov. 9, 2007 at 4:09 PM

- - -

Allison and Rellamom both tagged me. I am to give a list of 8 random things about me. Here goes:

I love to hold babies

I like to wear simple but pretty necklaces all the time

I am making a civil war dress

I love animals

I am to graduate from high school next spring

I love to sing

I love to play instruments

I would like to learn Hebrew and Greek

Who do I tag? Hmm.... How about anyone who wants to do it?!

Jocelyn, Rellamom, Merry and Amanda gave me the Nice Matters Award. I in turn am to award 5 other bloggers. So I award:

Amanda - I know she gave me the award that is only because she beat me to it... I was already planning to award her!
Rachel
Brielle
Katherineleigh
Mrs. Kay
Amanda Read

You all have been so nice to me and I thank you for it. You all deserve this award many more times! Do not forget to award six more bloggers! (You do not have to if you do not want to.)

Q&A: Mary asked me the following:
Hi-I just found your site today. I am a young homeschooled christian girl and I thing your blog and poem is great. Do you want to be a keeper at home or are you going into other studies-like college? In Christ, Mary

Well Mary, I believe the LORD has called women to be a Keeper at Home (Titus 2) and therefore that is what I want to be. I do not at all intend to attend college outside of my home and I intend to live with under my parents authority until the LORD (if He so wills) brings me to marriage. After I graduate from High School next year, I plan to continue to learn to be a Keeper at Home. I also intend to read and write a lot. I am sorry I took so very long to reply to your question. I hope you are still there and can read this!

One busy week...

Posted on Nov. 1, 2007 at 5:53 PM

- - -

This past week has been so busy!

On Saturday, our church had a Sewing Class. The mothers got together with their daughters and learned to sew. Nearly everyone completed a simple skirt. My mom and  Bethany  were both there as was I. Mom and Bethany were both helpers to the less experienced sewers. I helped too, but mostly in another way. Three of the moms brought their babies with them. All three of which are under one year old. I had the pleasure of taking care of each of these babies in turn, allowing the mother to sew. It was so fun! The oldest is 9 month old boy, the next a 4 month old boy and the youngest is a 3 month old girl. They are all so sweet!!!

The next day at church we had Baby Dedication. It was so sweet! Five or six babies all  a year and a half in age and younger were all dedicated. Afterwards we all went to the park for several hours in celebration. We had a wonderful time! I spent half of my time (at least) in taking care of our pastor’s youngest daughter. She is one and a half and SO adorable!

Then yesterday evening we went to our pastors house to celebrate Reformation Day. We had a wonderful time! Our pastor and his wife have five children, thirteen and under. The oldest is a boy and the other four are girls. There was also another family from church present. They have only one boy eight years old. We dressed up like the reformers (well kind of), ate a huge feast, then the young people played games and talked while the parents just talked. I had so much fun! We stayed until 1:30 in the morning so I am somewhat tired today, but I would not have left earlier for anything.

Just wanted to share about my week!

The Lie Evolution - A Review

Posted on Oct. 16, 2007 at 5:42 PM

- - -

Several months ago I read The Lie: Evolution by Ken Ham. It had been on my book-wish list for a long time.

Ken Ham was born and raised in Australia. He was raised by parents who were devoutly Christian. Mr. Ham came to the United States of America in 1987. In 1993 he founded Answers in Genesis with Mike Zovath and Mark Looy under the name of "Creation Science Ministries. In 1994 the board of Creation Science Ministries changed the name to Answers in Genesis. Answers in Genesis is a ministry that seeks to show the reliability of the Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelations 21:21. He and his wife Mally have five children and four grandchildren.

The first printing of this book was in July of 1987. In January of 2006 the book had its 27th printing. The Lie: Evolution is published by Master Books. It contains 11 chapters along with 2 appendices.

The Lie: Evolution “deals with the relevance of a literal Genesis.” (Introduction, page 16) In the book Mr. Ham seeks to point out the many fallacies of the Evolutionary Theory. (Scientifically it is really a hypothesis!) Mr. Ham shows how a national belief in evolution has undermined our society. It has eaten away our foundations. The compromise of the church with evolution has been especially fatal. Instead of upholding Gods infallible word we (His church) have made people distrust the first chapters of Genesis. When that happened, people started to distrust the rest of God‘s Word. After all, if you cannot trust the beginning, how can you trust the end?

I really enjoyed the conversational style of this book. It is written as though Mr. Ham were just having a friendly chat with the reader.

This book is excellent and a real eye opener. I would very highly recommend it.

Beautiful Girlhood - A Review

Posted on Oct. 9, 2007 at 5:08 PM

- - -

Some months ago I had the pleasure of reading Beautiful Girlhood by Mabel Hale.

Mabel Hale lived in the early nineteen hundreds. She had one daughter named Cleora. Beautiful Girlhood is dedicated to Mrs. Hale’s “daughter and her comrades who are now walking the way of girlhood.” Mrs. Hale was also the author of several short articles and stories written for children such as: “What is Your Motto?”, “Play Fair” and “Lola Beebe’s Fault”. Mrs. Hale also wrote a series of essays about habits which are very interesting.

Beautiful Girlhood was published in the early nineteen hundreds by Warner Press, Anderson, Indiana. After the death of Mrs. Hale the book was republished by Church of Christ, Mennonite with permission from the previous publisher and Mrs. Hale’s daughter. Mrs. Karen Andreola  revised Beautiful Girlhood and it was then published by Great Expectations Book Company in 1993. The Beautiful Girlhood I read was published by Barbour Publishing Inc. in 2001. The book was unrevised and as far as I know, true to the original publication.

In this book, Mrs. Hale seeks to impart wisdom to young girls just passing from childhood to womanhood in that time called girlhood, however I believe that a anyone passed girlhood could still gain much wisdom from the reading of this book. Topics include: “Friendships”, “Making Friends of Books”, “The Strength of Obedience”, “A Pure Heart”, “The Waking of the Love Nature”, “A Christian”, “The Beauty of Truthfulness” and many more.

This is a very good book and is written from a Christian perspective. However, I do not agree with the authors view of a woman with a career outside the home. She promoted it as a good thing, whereas I strongly believe that the Bible calls women to be Keepers at Home. In “Choosing A Lifework” Mrs. Hale suggests and promotes various careers for women, though to do her credit I must mention that she does advocate homemaking as a worthy “lifework”.

I would recommend this book to girls who are about 13 years of age and older.

God's Providence in Jamestown

Posted on Sep. 26, 2007 at 3:58 PM

- - -

This is a poem I wrote for a contest done by Vision Forum. I did not win, but I thought that you all might enjoy reading it. I plan to do a post very soon, about Jamestown (not in poetry form). If you have any questions about it, the answers of which you would like me to include in my post, please leave me a comment and I will consider putting it in my post.

God's Providence in Jamestown

The providence of God has been displayed
Through all the nations of the world.
From England to Egypt, Canada to Spain
His power and majesty have been unfurled.

The place I wish to speak of
Was in the country called the U.S.A.
Of this place in the state Virginia
The facts before you I will lay.

Long before the Revolutionary War...
Thirteen years before the Pilgrims came...
There rose a settlement by a river
And Jamestown was it’s name.

Jamestown is one place
Where God’s glory is told.
One place that has seen
The Lord’s story unfold.

It was founded in the year 1607
After a charter was granted by King James.
A group had sailed away from England.
Here are some of their names:

Thomas Couper was a barber,
Edward Wingfield a member of council.
William Laxton was a carpenter
And a gentleman was Nathaniel Powell.

Master Robert Hunt was a reverend.
Another gentleman was Thomas Gore.
James Read was the only blacksmith.
These are just a few people... there were many more.

One hundred and five was the number
Of individuals who to Virginia sailed.
The journey was fraught with tempest’s.
Without God’s help the voyage would have failed.

Lost they became on that voyage
They nearly returned whence they came.
But God sent a storm that forced them
Into a harbor, Cape Henry by name.

On May 13th Sixteen Hundred and Seven.
They arrived at their final destination,
The next day they commenced building a town,
Without showing any hesitation.

When some of the men were sent to explore,
The Indians attacked those remaining.
A ships crossbar struck down a bough from a tree,
Scattering the Indians and thereby the colony retaining.

So many ways God did provide for these people,
When they had a great lack of food,
The Indians behaved kinder and brought to them
Fruits and other provisions that were good.

When Captain Smith was taken prisoner
The Lord used it for great good.
Capt. Smith saved the lives of the colonist’s
And behaved as bravely as he could.

He almost lost his life to clubs,
But God sent Pocahontas the Kings daughter
To beg for the life of Captain Smith.
And she succeeded in changing the mind of her father.

The Indians declared themselves friends to Capt. Smith.
They sent him back home to Jamestown.
Pocahontas often brought food to them.
God was providing for them so they found.

Three times the colonists’ attempted
To abandon the fort they’d raised.
But Captain Smith prevented them
For that let God’s name be praised!

Captain Newport brought over more people,
Who accidentally fired the town
Houses, clothes and possessions were lost
Even their palisade’s were burnt down.

After the fire was put out,
And Captain Newport had sailed again,
Capt. Smith and Matthew Scrivener
Directed the town to be rebuilt by the men.

Soon after an expedition was headed by Capt. Smith
Where they planned to explore surrounding land.
While on the long and perilous journey
A stingray stung the Capt. near his hand.

His hand was swelled in four hours,
They were certain he was going to die.
They even prepared a grave
Where after his death he would lie.

But by the help of their Doctor Russell
And by the mercy of our God Almighty
The life of this great leader was spared
And they gave the praise to Whom it was due rightly.

When the men returned from their expedition
The whole town was very sick they found
It was all due to their selfish president
Who in this suffering had them bound.

God used Captain Smith to change
The government to the core.
Mr. Scrivener was appointed president
Then Capt. Smith went to explore some more.

On his return he became the president
And a fine president he made!
God used him to run Jamestown
By directions and the example he laid.

The men in the town became proficient with arms.
The town was rebuilt and repaired.
When the men were practicing with their arms in Smithsfield
The neighboring Indians came and just stared.

Many times the people were saved
From a death treacherous and cruel.
God sent them warning messages.
He often used Pocahontas as a tool.

Of this very same Pocahontas
I must say just a little more.
She was the first Indian who
The name of Christian bore.

She married a man named John Rolfe
To him she bore a son Thomas by name
She traveled with them to England
And died shortly after leaving the same.

Many other ways did God Almighty
For this small colony provide.
If I were to narrate of all He did
I should here much longer abide.

So now I conclude my narrative.
It is to God’s glory I write.
Praise be to Him for all good I do
I do it only by His great might.

Rewritten History?

Posted on Sep. 18, 2007 at 4:15 PM

- - -

I like to read Mr. Doug Phillips blog on the Vision Forum website. I have learned much from what I have read there. In the first half of this year, much of what he was writing was about our nations history and what our nation is now considering our nations history. It set me to thinking:

It is a sad day when our nation rejects God’s hand as a blessing in our history. When they call the early settlers “invaders”. When they say that Pocahontas was forced to become a Christian and was actually murdered! (That is not all they say about her.) When they call Captain John Smith (a true Christian) a liar. It is sad that all these things are happening, but they are true. When all these happen one begins to ask “why”.

Why are they making up these horrible stories? Why are they trying to rewrite history? I think it is because they want to get rid of the memory of God in history as much as possible.

They have already done their best to take the LORD’s hand out of the beginning of the earth and our creation. Now they want to take His hand out of our nations history as well. Our country does not want to admit that an omnipotent God exists. If they can rewrite history without Him, they will feel more comfortable. They will not be confronted with what the LORD has done if they erase it from the history books.

Our nation needs prayer. Our world needs prayer. We as Christians must pray for our fellow man and not only must we pray - we must shine. We must be a “light” to “the world.” We must be like the city on the hill that “cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14) We must shine for our King. We must show the world that He does exist. He created our world and us. He does have a hand in history. He created history. History is His Story!

Praise the LORD for what He has done in HIS-story!

Pride and Prejudice - A Review

Posted on Sep. 18, 2007 at 4:09 PM

- - -

In this past summer I had the pleasure of reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen for the second time.

Jane Austen lived in England from December 16, 1775 to July 18, 1817. She never married and lived with her family until her early death. She was the seventh of eight children. She had one older sister, Cassandra and six brothers. Her father was the rector of the parish in Steventon for about 40 years. She wrote several other works including, Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility. All of her works, published in her lifetime, were done so anonymously. The author of the books was known as “a Lady”. Pride and Prejudice was Miss Austen’s second published novel.

Miss Austen first wrote Pride and Prejudice between 1796 -1797. It was then titled First Impressions. It was offered for publication under this name but the offer was declined. Miss Austen later revised First Impressions and in 1813 the book was published under the title of Pride and Prejudice. The original book and some copies today were written in three volumes bound into one book. The first volume contained 23 chapters and the last two contained 29 chapters each. Most publications of this book are now printed with one volume containing 81 chapters. The Pride and Prejudice I read was an Oxford Illustrated. It was published as like as possible as the original publication of 1813.

Pride and Prejudice focuses on the Bennett family: the cool and sarcastic Mr. Bennett, the silly and nerve suffering Mrs. Bennett, the well thinking Jane, the playful Elizabeth, the studious Mary, the easily led Catherine and the ridiculous Lydia. Mrs. Bennett is determined to get all of her five daughters married to rich men. There is a problem however: at a time when money, connections and position mean a great deal in marriage, Mr. Bennett’s property is entailed to his cousin, not left to his daughters. On marriage none of the girls would be able to bring their new husbands money or connections and their position in society, though not very low, was not very high either. The majority of the book focuses on Jane and Elizabeth. Jane finds a man to love and loses him. Elizabeth enjoys hating Mr. Darcy for his behavior to towards another man - until she receives some shocking revelations. The book ends with one of the best of endings.

One aspect of this book that I really liked was Jane’s habit of always thinking the best of people even in the worst of circumstances.

This is a book I would highly recommend.

A Review of My Blogging Vacation

Posted on Sep. 11, 2007 at 4:25 PM

- - -

After many long weeks of vacation I am now back to blogging! I thought I would try and give you an overview of how I spent my summer...

My sisters and I have all enjoyed learning to swim this summer. I really love the water! In this Arizona heat, almost nothing is better then going swimming to cool down!

Something I have been interested in this summer is the hairstyles of women living in the 1800’s. We have tried two or three on myself. First, this is a hairstyle I did myself with a little bit of Mom's help. (She braided one of the braids most of the way. :)

It is a reproduction of Jane Bennett’s hairstyle at the Netherfield Ball in the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice produced by A & E.

This hairstyle is copied from Emma, starring Gwyneth Paltro;

Emma Woodhouse’s hair looks like this when she is practicing archery with Mr. Knightly. Bethany did this hairstyle for me. (She deserves credit for taking both pictures as well.)

I have learned a lot about England in the last few months. From servants to tea, from clothes to houses... I have learned a lot! We even got to watch a movie that showed aerial shots of the principle places of England. It was called Visions of England. I plan to post a review on it shortly.

I have read many, many  novels and books this summer! What fun! Many of them were English because of our English study. Here is a list of all the books  I read this summer. (All but one or two of them I had never read before.) I plan to eventually post separate reviews for most of them.

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
Persuasion by Jane Austen
The Graceful Art of Tea by Nan Taylor
Answers Magazine
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Inside the Victorian Home by Judith Flanders
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

To my sisters:

Rosa of Linden Castle by Christoph Von Schmid
Greystone Lodge by Unknown
First Impressions of God by Ann R. Wells
Schmid’s Tales by Christoph Von Schmid
The White Dove by Christoph Von Schmid
Probable Sons by Amy LeFevre

I am pretty sure there was something else, but I am not sure what it was. I am still reading some things I started this summer as well. The books on this list are just the ones I finished as well as started. :)

One of the fun things we did for our English study was to conduct an English dinner. We made a meal using recipes from the Elizabethan Era. The dinner consisted of Shepherd’s Pie, Galintine of Capon, Yorkshire Pudding and a failed attempt at Gingerbread. (It did not turn out right at all!) The meal over all was very good. The table was set with my great-grandmothers silver, crystal that used to belong to my grandmother, a linen table cloth belonging to Mom and the china set that I have for my hope chest. Here is a picture of the table when it was all set:

Is it not it pretty? The only drawback was that we had no cloth napkins and so had to use paper. (Something we intend to rectify soon!)

We got to attend a Homeschool Convention in July. I loved it! So many rows of books and curriculum... I could stay there for days! We bought several books, especially from Lamplighter. The things we bought included:  several books, cd’s, tons of catalogs and brochures and a history game. When lunch time came at the convention, we got to go out to eat with several families from church, including our Pastor and his wife and a family who used to attend our church. They had since moved to Colorado, but were here for the convention. It was so nice to see them again! The whole day went wonderful!

Later in the month we had the pleasure of attending and helping with a baby shower. The ladies of our church were giving it to a one of the expecting ladies of our church. The neat thing is that she had her baby the day after! Only ladies were permitted to be present, but exceptions were made for two baby boys ages 6 and 9 months. They were allowed to stay with their mothers - well actually I held one of them nearly the entire time he was there, but that is another story... :)

On a sad note, our tortoise Ecclesiastes died. We do not know how or why, but I know the LORD had a good reason for allowing it. We had Ecclesiastes for about 11 or 12 years.

I had a very unpleasant insect bite during the last few weeks. We believe it was caused by a spider. It swelled and grew very large - nearly as large as the palm of my hand! It was quite painful. Praise the LORD that nearly all trace of it has now disappeared. I used poultices and herbs on it and most of it left within a week!

I finished a lovely skirt very recently. Go to our sewing blog... I plan to post pictures of it very soon!

Thank you all very much for your comments throughout the summer. I loved them!

Just Call On Him...

Posted on Aug. 27, 2007 at 9:11 PM

God sees every single sparrow
That falls from a tree.
How much more does He see
Every human who falls to his knees.
Every prayer uttered He hears,
And to all who ask, He calms all fears.

And just by one prayer by you
He will calm YOUR fears
And dry YOUR tears.
He will give you cheer
And will come quite near.
All troubles He will take
So they no longer a burden make.

Just talk to Him, He will hear,
He is very near.
He can hear your slightest call
Whether you are small or tall.
Just call on Him, you’ll see
I know - He has already done so much - for me.

I the last few months I have been awarded blogging awards by several people. I am sorry that I did not link to anyone, but I did not have time.

Jocelyn and Amanda Dixon and Mandy awarded me the Blogger Reflection Award. Thank you very much. I am very honored that you chose me.

Here are the bloggers who I am giving this award to. If I award you go here to find out what to do. I know there are many more out there who deserve this award, but I can only give it to 5 people:

Heather (pianolove): I only recently found this blog, but I already really enjoy it. Heather has a way of making you think. Her blog has a very pleasant atmosphere.

Virtuous Maidens: I love to visit this blog as well. Lois always post very thought provoking, Godly posts.

Brielle (BrielleCostumes): Brielle has a great blog! Very interesting and educational. She often writes posts about clothing in different eras or in movies. Her latest post centers around the costumes in The Pirates of the Caribbean.

Alicia (Walkbyfaith): Alicia has a very unique blog! She covers a variety of topics. She talks about every day life, what she believes, she has quizzes... and more!

Rose: This young lady is very sweet and often makes me think more in depth about things that I otherwise would lightly pass over.

Rachel Dixon and Eyebright gave me the Rockin’ Girl Blogger Award. If I award you, you are in turn to award 5 more people and you can put the Rockin’ Girl Blogger Award (on my sidebar) on you blog. Here are the 5 people I wish to give the Rockin’ Girl Blogger Award to:

Amanda Dixon (SuperAngel): I love to read Amanda’s blog! She posts about every day life and the books she has read. She truly shows through what she writes, that she is trying to follow God in every area of her life. She leaves very sweet comments as well.

Jocelyn Dixon: I always love to read Jocelyn’s blog. She is so sweet and her blog has a wonderful Godly atmosphere. She always leaves very sweet comments.

Amanda Read (SincerelyAmanda): Amanda’s blog is so pleasant to visit! She writes about things she believes and life in general.

Ally (hskubesgal): Ally is such a sweet blogger! She writes in such a sweet way about everything that her blog is a pleasure to read.

Mandy (MandyGrace): I really enjoy Mandy’s blog! She always has something interesting or instructional to read.

Rachel Dixon was the third person to award me with the Blogging With A Purpose Award. Thank you Rachel. You are so sweet! I already awarded 5 others in my post "Thank You One and All" post.

The other day my parents went out on a date... Which meant that I was left to watch my three younger sisters. (Okay, Bethany needs very little “watching”! ;) ) After eating dinner in a boat (made out of two couches pushed together) with several teddy bears as companions, we decided to play church. We had a wonderful time dressing up in shawls, bonnets, and jewelry, putting our hair up and deciding which dolls would be our children. I played the piano for our church service. We sang songs such as: Amazing Grace, Come Thou Fount and Kum Ba Ya. After “church” we all went to “Mrs. Relance’s” (alias my sister Bethany) sitting room for cheese sticks and smoothies. After that we went to bed. Just a taste of what my summer has been like. ;)

Just so you all know, my summer vacation from blogging is not officially over yet. I hope to come back in September or so. For now I am just “visiting”.  Thank you all for your wonderful comments! I love receiving them!

Jane Eyre - A Movie Review

Posted on Aug. 3, 2007 at 11:13 PM

- - -

I had the privilege of watching the movie: Jane Eyre.

Jane Eyre is based off of a novel of the same name by Charlotte Bronte. (A book I have never read.)

Jane Eyre was filmed on location in England. The movie was filmed in 1997. It was produced by London Weekend Television and A&E Television Networks. The screenplay was written by Kay Mellor. The director of the movie was Robert Young. Samantha Morton plays Jane Eyre opposite Ciarin Hinds as Mr. Rochester. The movie is about 108 minutes long.

Jane Eyre is about a young lady who at a early age was orphaned and mistreated. She obtains a position as a governess where she falls in love and becomes engaged. All seems full of joy for her as her wedding day dawns but suddenly a dark secret is unearthed and threatens to destroy all her happiness. This movie begins rather confusing and very sad but improves as it goes along. It is very well acted.

I would not recommend this movie for young children. One of the characters reveals an ugly past life of sin without showing any regret for it.

I would recommend this movie to adults, both young and old.
