On the Embroidery Road

Right now I am learning to embroider. I can already cross-stitch quite well and I have wanted to know how to embroider for a very long time. My Mom taught my sister Bethany and I a few simple stitches yesterday and had us practice them on pieces of cloth she cut for us.

Today she had us each pick a stitch we had learned and embroider an initial on a pair of bloomers that we had made. Mine was for my 5 year old sister and I embroidered her initial on the bloomers, but I made a mistake: I embroidered it on the wrong side! It was supposed to be on the front and instead I did it on the back! As it is not a very complicated piece of work I will be able to pull it out and start over without much trouble. I was a little disappointed at first that I made the mistake, but after all I can really just regard it as practice and the more I practice the better I’ll get! If I do it over I’ll be able to try and do it better than I did it the first time. 

I plan to learn a lot more stitches. My Mom has a bunch of information on embroidery and as I love to read and learn from books and articles, I think I will have a lot of fun learning. Maybe I will post some pictures of the things I make on my blog here.
