Aprons, Sergers and Sewing Machines

Posted on Oct. 31, 2006 at 5:14 PM

in Homeschool - Leave a Note

For the last several months I have been working on an Edwardian apron. It is very simple and the only reason it is taking so long is because I have not been consistently working on it.

Well one night last week I was sewing with Bethany. I had to serge the edges so I went to use our newest machine. I like the newest one the best. Well I was working on it and before I was half way through it unthreaded! I did not know how to fix it so I moved to the other machine. I finished and left it.

A few minutes later Bethany went on the old machine  and what did she do but unthread it! That was it for our sewing that night. The next day Mom had us use machine manuals and try and thread the machines. We tried all afternoon and part of the next day. On the next day Mom figured out that we were not threading through the tension disks.  Threading it properly fixed the machines, but not all my problems…

A day or two later I was sewing and guess what’s wrong now? My sewing machine gets getting the thread caught under the presser foot plates! We are afraid it may need servicing. Mom says I may have damaged something. It’s not that old of a machine - not even a year old yet. I hope we can easily fix it, because I would like to get sewing on some dresses soon.

Well I just thought I might share one of my adventures - you never know what you’ll encounter on an every day basis. I have adventures all the time, though  I don’t view them that way often enough.
