First Week of School and Field Trip to Mesa Verde
Hi Friends!
Another week has gone by. Boy were we busy! We started our first week of school for the older girls (3rd and 5th grade). Our schedule left out a couple of subjects, but it was a lot of work anyway! I’m so glad we took the time to get caught up in math in July, because trying to get caught up while we have such an intense schedule may have been really hard! We are trying to get caught up in spelling, but they don’t seem to mind it as much (we are doing two lists at a time). We are also trying to get caught up on the math facts that we should know by now, and that seems to be going well, but it is just another thing we are adding to our very full schedule!
Last Monday school took us all day – at least 8 hours. I think we were all exhausted by the end of that day. My Elly didn’t do all of her preschool subjects each day, but we are 3 weeks ahead of the older girls, so I just took her lead as to whether to do Handwriting Without Tears and Shiller Math. If she balked, I just skipped it. It is supposed to be fun anyway.
Thursday I lead intercession at the base and had to work in the afternoon, so we didn’t do school. Saturday we took a field trip to Mesa Verde National Park by Cortez, Colorado, which I count as school. I wish we could have spent about 2-3 days there! I hope some day we can go back and let the girls do the junior ranger program there, while we camp or stay in a hotel nearby. It is a 4 hour drive from here. I’ll post pics later.
Thursday night part of the youth group from Plow Creek Church in Illinois came to do some volunteering and enjoying the mountain. They were here until Tuesday morning. They worked Thursday afternoon and Friday. Saturday they went with us to Mesa Verde. Sunday they’ve been fishing and canoeing at Silver Jack Reservoir. Yesterday they worked one more day, and then they headed home today.
Sunday, I, with my girls’ help, picked raspberries, picked up and vacuumed the house, caught up the dishes and the laundry, made new schedules for our homeschooling this week, and then caught up on my blogging. I also balanced the checkbook.
Monday we did a partial school day, then went to town for my bigger girls to get their eyes checked. Their glasses prescriptions are essentially the same. Then we went to the public swimming pool and had a great time. Off to Wallyworld for a few, then home.
Today we had a nice stay at home and do school day. I’ve got a few things left for the girls to do.
Hello there! I'd like to invite you to check out the new blogger "writing assignments" school at the Homeschool Blog Awards site, called Blogger Class Mates! It's just starting today and we hope you will stop over and join us!
You can go here for more info: http://homeschoolblogawards.com/2008/08/blogger-class-mates/
Thank you for stopping by my blog and saying such sweet words. Your 9yo will be baptized in the Lord's time, definitely. Truly, I never thought my Paulie would be baptized. He does not like water on his face at all, and was nervous while being baptized. It was all the Lord, as I'm sure it will be with your child.
Thanks again for stopping by. :)
JoAnn
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (11, 9 and 4) and a two year old son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek and serve God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
