Our Busy Little World

Jan. 30, 2008 - Mission Statement Contest

Well it's finally here - the first blog contest on TwaddleMeNot! Lately I've been thinking about how difficult it can sometimes be to cheerfully go about the work God has set before me. Usually in those difficult times I find that I've forgotten the purpose in all I do. I know that wifehood and motherhood is a high and blessed calling, but I often need to be reminded of that when I'm "in the trenches" of diapers, runny noses, sin issues and other such day-to-day things. Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." I know the Bible beautifully shows the "vision" of our lives: of motherhood, of sainthood. But I have often wanted to write a mission statement for my life that sort of encapsulates the beauty of the calling God has given me.  We all have a unique part in God's perfect plan, but we mothers have so many of the same missions day to day that I think we could all be blessed by being reminded of WHY we do this. So I decided to challenge myself to write a mission statement for my life. Would any of you like to join me?

Here's the fun part. For some reason this all inspired me to have a contest. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post. One little comment and you will officially be entered in my contest (which will be a random drawing from a hat.)

But if you'd like to be entered thrice - yep, your name would go in the hat three times - please leave a comment with your personal mission statement as well. I'm sure we could all be so blessed reading eachother's vision statements, and I'd really like to bless someone through this contest.

Knowing the true purpose in our lives, I was thinking about the pearl of great price (I know, I go through a lot of mental gymnastics!), so as a prize for this contest, the winner may choose their favorite pearl necklace, earring set or bracelet - whatever one piece of jewelry you like best- from the ones on this page. I shall leave the contest open for about two weeks, and choose a winner on the 14th, so as to provide a fun Valentine surprise for someone! Oh, and please feel free to enter whatever your station in life - it's not just moms who need to be reminded of their purpose in God's plan! We all are such needed parts of His body and I'd be so blessed to read all of your hearts as to God's call on your life right now!

I hope this is something you might be blessed by, and if nothing else, I would love to challenge each of us to write down why we do what we do, so that we can read it when we are discouraged, and perhaps God will use it to bring us new energy for our blessed calling. I pray you're all blessed this day as you go about His work in your days!

Feb. 2, 2008 - My Mission statement

Posted by Tara

My mission statement is simple : "To try each day to see my world through God's eyes". I think that if I try and see my kids and my husband the way God sees them I will treat them right. If I see my job as a SAHM through God's eyes I will see it's purpose and not see it simply as a chore. If I see myself through God's eyes I will not only see what needs to change but I will see that God really does LOVE me! And if I see our church (which my husband pastor's) and our community through God's eyes I will see that angry people are usually hurting people, I will see people as God sees them instead of how I judge them.

I'm really glad I found your site! I read about you on Mom of the Week at From Dates to Diapers.

Feb. 3, 2008 - My Mission...

I was raised in a Christian home growing up and have always loved the Lord. But, I never understood the important role that God gave mothers. As a young wife and new mother, I knew that there was more to the picture than I was seeing. I cried out to the Lord for wisdom and revelation...through His Word he painted me a beautiful picture of Godly Motherhood and feminity. God showed me that the highest calling I could ever fulfill is to raise up my blessings in Him and to serve my husband with my whole heart. Staying home with my four children is so freeing. I love seeing every little thing they learn, being the one to help them make it through each stage, and creating a warm, nurturing enviornment for them to grow in and my husband to enjoy. This is the mission feild and I am loving the adventure!

My mission statement is simple as well. I try to do all I do, not just mothering, but ALL I do to glorify God. When my heart is in line with His, it seems that all aspects of my life fall into place. When my goal is how I can serve Him, and serve those he has given me to take care of, self is denied. Things go so much better it seems when I focus on how I can please God, and please my family, instead of how I can make things better for myself. My mission in life is to honor God, and to do my best, for His glory, as the wife and mother He has called me to be

Thanks Melissa...I LOVE contests!

Here is my mission statement that is typed up and sits on my refrigerator door.
"To be a good wife and devoted mother who raises self reliant adults who have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, charitable hearts, healthy self worth and a stong relationship with their creator."
I find that walking by and reading this statement gets me through the harder days. What a fun and meaningfull contest.
Blessings,
Dawn

I don't know if this will count as a "personal mission statement" but it is what I (and my family) use as a life verse. Phil. 4:8 Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable... if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. We also have a family vision statement.... I should post it on my blog sometime...
Have a blessed day,
Christine

My mission is to teach my children to love the Lord with all their hearts, souls, and mind! I want them to know that that is the most important thing they will ever do. If I fail them there I have deeply failed them. I want them to see me love the Lord and love their dad so they can see what really matters in life. I want them to care for others! I hope they look back at their childhood with great memories of laughter, good books, great mercy and a home that loves the Lord! I will admit though, I don't always feel I'm doing it all but I hope in my imperfections they learn as well. Every Day I need HIS mercy too!

I'm trying to focus right now on looking toward Christ and his resurrection whenever I feel discouraged as a mom (and a new mom to my new kids in our home). So this passage is a little long for a mission statement but I'm trying to keep it in mind and understand it better in light of my family.

Koe pahlka@gmail.com

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:10-14
