Thanks, Mandi!

My daughter read a book this morning...Thunderhoof by Syd Hoff. After she finished, I told her we might have to read it again when she is older, even though it is an easy reader. It is about a horse, wild and free, that no one can catch. Until this drought and in his weakened state, he is caught. But no one can ride him and he is eventually turned loose.

Wild and free, he begins to miss the care that was given him and returns voluntarily to captivity.

It reminded me so much of why we need to educate our children on what liberty is, the responsibility it entails and that it takes work, not just doing what we want.

This sounds like a book we need to check out! ( :
I have used the story of the Israelites in the desert desiring to go back to Egypt to illustrate the key principle, that it takes Christian character to maintain liberty, to my kids. I think our Founding Fathers are another great example of the character it takes- it would have been easier to just bow down to tyrrany (of course not in the long run) but they chose to fight it at the risk of losing their very lives- which many did.
I have used this as a starting point for a discussion about why education is important and that it will take character to perservere when the subjects get difficult, but ignorance brings bondage. hhhm- this is getting quite long- maybe I should post on this topic! LOL ( :
