I have had some interest expressed lately in homeschooling by members of a local church. They want to meet with me and talk about it, so I am writing up a list of false views they may hold about education so that I can take them to Scripture and show them other evidences of the error in their thinking. This is my list so far:
1. This world’s (man’s) views about education is the standard by which all should be measured.
2. God does not have anything to say about education and therefore it is secular.
3. Education is neutral and can be taught without any religious views.
4. One must hold a teacher’s degree in order to teach effectively.
5. Our schools are doing a successful job of equipping our children for life.
6. Bad things seldom happen in our PS’s and only elsewhere.
7. Academics is more important than character.
8. Our children need to be missionaries in the PS.
9. God did not call me to teach my children.
Have I missed any? Anyone have any scripture, facts, websites, and/or books to add? Thank you in advance for anything you can add to this. |

One other thought was to discuss the issue of 'pride' or 'selfishness' that prohibits some from pursuing what God wants. Our world draws us in and so... wealth, prestige and material posessions begin to be all that many see and value. Many feel that two bringing home the 'bread' is the only way to accomplish this goal. Rather than the eternal worth of souls~ specifically their children. Hence giving the authority to the government to do what they will with their children so the parents can have and keep a nice home and expensive 'toys'.
You did a great job with your list. Hope this helps.
