Under His Construction

• Mar. 24, 2007 - Are we producing chocolate covered bananas?

I am absolutely loving my new book that I mentioned buying in an earlier post . The book itself is just a plain, nothing fancy, big red textbook that looks very boring educational, but the content is so rich and enlightening- I encourage anyone involved in any aspect of education (even the education of yourself) to get this great resource!

I just had to share this great excerpt which is often quoted at the Yahoo Bible Principles group.

"Christian education is not an attempt to coat the student with Christianity and knowledge. One master teacher had an opportunity to observe a number of Christian schools operating in a geographical area and made the observation that so many of them seem to be merely coating their students with Bible and content, like a "chocolate-covered banana, slick and sweet on the outside, but soft and mushy on the inside."

Our god is All-in-all, not just a cover-all for our students and over all the subjects. Christian education must work from the internal to the external and thus develop that integrity of character and conscience which, by the grace of God, is steadfast and unmovable in the face of trials and hardships, as contrasted with the education that produces an attractively coated Christian who melts and gives under pressure - like a "chocolate-covered banana."

You will have to share more as you keep reading. I am enjoying and encouraged by HEart of Wisdom Teaching Approach book by Robin Sampson, along some of the same lines.
