Under His Construction

• Apr. 13, 2007 - No takers? (or no readers?) ( :

Okay- either no one wanted to try my challenge from my last post or nobody reads my blog! ( : LOL

Here is how I am thinking we line up with this cycle:

1. Bondage - captivity, slavery

This would be those in Europe/England pre-Reformation - before the Bible was in the hands of each individual

2. Spiritual Faith - turning to God

And this would be the Reformation

3. Acts of Great Courage - doing what is right despite difficulty, danger, pain

I would line this up with the first settlements in America: Jamestown and especially the Seperatists (Pilgrims)- but I also would tend to include the colonists fighting in the Revolutionary War for our independence.

4. Liberty and Abundance - freedom and great blessing

I think that this would include the growth and establishment of the colonies after Jamestown and Plymouth- and also the time period after the Revolution.

5. Selfishness - regard for one’s own interest (at other’s expense)

This makes me think of some of the greedy investors as the Americas expanded westward developing this nation and building railroads across it.

6. Complacency - quiet satisfaction

This would be the time from after the rest of the nation became developed from the toil and struggles of the pioneers to the Great Depression (although from this point on I am not sure quite where to pinpoint these characteristics specifically)

7. Apathy - indifference, lack of emotion

I tend to think this came during and after the Depression? not sure

8. Dependency - control or influence by another

I see this as definitely linked to the Depression- I believe our nation began to look to our government to meet it's every need more and more from that point on. Politicians grabbed hold of this and more and more began to run campaigns based on promises of what they would have the government do for the people.

9. Bondage - captivity, slavery

Are we here yet? I see many signs of it! When Eminent Domain became laws then private ownership went out the door. Next May we will be required to start carrying a national ID card. Speech is being limited all the time and new legislation is being voted on by our representatives to decide how much further it should go. What else- can anyone think of any more signs?

I would love to hear your thoughts about this- do you agree? do you disagree? where and why/

That list looks pretty good to me. I have a feeling there are smaller cycles too inside of this big one. For instance there was complacency before the civil war to some degree and then I would call the civil war a time of enslavement. I don't have your list in front of me and I know I am forgetting things.
But I am sure to that we are in time of enslavement now losing our freedoms one by one with very little protests.
That is all the cycle of Judges too.
I would be interested too hear more about this book you quoted from. I have never heard of it before. Another post on it would be of value to me.

It is hard to say...I think every nation goes back and forth.

I would say that the dominant characteristic of our nation today is selfishness, more than anything. I think eminent domain falls under that. And the willingness to let others (government) take over in that whole "love thy neighbor" and care for the orphans and widows stuff.

The Great Depression caused a lot of problems, but there was a revitalization at the same time...maybe not necessarily spiritual, but in almost every trend there are numerous counter trends. We don't always know which will prove to be dominant.

Thank you Jennifer- the Civil War- how could I forget that in there?! I am going to have to rethink the whole thing now. And I think you and anonymous are both right- it is hard to tell with cycles within the whole cycle- I also want to clarify that I realize that we really aren't in true bondage yet- many other countries would laugh at me for even proposing such an idea! I do however believe that it is coming at an alarming rate and could be here as fast as overnight with how dependant Americans are on their gov't. What happens when our economy comes crashing in- who will care about freedom anymore when their very nice lifestyle is at stake? Will Americans quickly give up their soveriegnty when times get tough? I do believe so- there has been an agenda going on for a very long time to condition the citizens of America to accept communism(a future post on this is coming) and when the time is right they will!
