Since I was once again on my why homeschool soapbox in my last post - I thought I would also share what I wrote up that I mentioned I was writing in an earlier post- It is really long so I will share a little of it here and there through the summer - The title is 'Questions Every Christian Parent Should Ask Themselves Before Placing Their Kids in the Public School' - please let me know what you all think - any input would be appreciated. Here is the first section:
. Where do our views about education come from- God or man? Where should they come from?
“We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”
-2 Corinthians 10:5
Who is the author of education?
“All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” -John 1:3
Where does knowledge, wisdom, and understanding come from? Can our children get the education they need apart from God?
“He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge— “ -Psalm 94:10
“to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth— “
-Proverbs 1:4
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
-Proverbs 1:7
“Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind?”
-Job 38:36
"All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children."
- Isaiah 54:13
Can we truly understand God’s creation (science and geography) or God’s story (history) without knowing and understanding God and placing Him at the center of these studies and acknowledging Him as the author and creator? Can we discern the motives of man (literature and again history) without an absolute standard by which to measure?
“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” -John 1:3
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” -Genesis 1:1
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” -Hebrews 4:12 |
• May. 17, 2007 - Great Post!
I'd LOVE to do everything I listed also, but there's no way that's possible. I've been praying about the different things I listed and want to pick a couple of things from each section to focus on and then follow-through.
You've wriiten several interesting posts! The communist one below was quite interesting and a bit alarming. They do seem to have succeeded with the schools, press, universities, one political party, art...trade with Red China....hmmm!
