If God is removed from a curriculum then is it neutral? Or is it truly teaching from a viewpoint that God does not exist? Isn't this called atheism? Is atheism neutral?
What is a worldview and what does it have to do with education?
Here I go again asking questions! But these are more that I have come up with since my last round and I think they are important ones. First I want to address the issue of what a worldview is. I will give you four different definitions that truly mean the same thing but maybe one will grab your fancy more than another - I like them all.
Worldview:
1. The set of underlying assumptions that interpret the existence of life.
2. A conceptual theme by which we interpret and judge reality.
3. Our groundfloor assumptions, ones that are so basic that none more basic can be concieved compose our worldview.
4. The sum total of our beliefs about the world, the big picture that directs our daily desicions and actions.
Our children's worldview is being shaped daily by those that are educating them. So when they are taught all about this world from a viewpoint that is void of God - they are learning to look at life from an atheistic worldview. When they are taught to search the Scriptures and look at all of life through God's Word then they are being taught to look at all of life with a Christian worldview.
So with that said then what are we telling our children when we send them to the public school for their education? That it does not matter whether we acknowledge God or not.? That God's Word is not adequate for equipping them for life? That we can't handle this area of their lives and that we are not the authority in this area of their lives? But the PS is? That the PS is the place that will dispense knowledge to them so that they can become a productive human being and citizen?
So what happens when they come home from school and we want to know what they learned that day so as to make sure they did not learn anything false? What are they going to be thinking? Maybe they will be thinking "what do you know - you send me to the authority in this area of my life everyday - if you know so much then why are you sending me there to get an education?" They may be thinking "my teacher is a government certified teacher - he/she knows but you don't! - they have the books that tell all the facts and information- you don't know!" They may never verbalize this but they may think it! And even if they don't think this and start to tell you all of the things they learned that day - are they going to tell you all the false assumptions that the teachings they learned were based on? Of course not because they don't know the false assumptions because these are being shaped into their worldview everyday right now- they don't have a solid foundation yet to recognize these for what they are. Don't be fooled into believing that education is neutral - if you are not indoctrinating your children then someone else is and they are doing it under a false doctrine! |

I like that idea, actually. When you make a quilt, the bias holds the edges down, keeps it from fraying and keeps the stuffing in. An unbiased quilt quickly unravels. What a nice picture for unbiased opinions, huh?
