Under His Construction

• Jun. 20, 2007 - The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord! (Part 1)

And the Lord delights in his way!

I was reading through Genesis 6 today and 4 words really stood out at me:

"Noah walked with God"

I had to pause and think this through - Noah was the only one in a very peverse and corrupt culture that found favor with God - how did he remain righteous in this kind of influence? Are these 4 words the answer? What does it mean to walk with God?

For me the daily struggle is to even keep my mind focused on the big picture and not on me - the inner battle is a constant struggle to quit turning it all back to how I can be served rather than how I can serve - it is my hearts cry right now to walk with God like Noah did - to be so focused on Him that I don't lose sight of what I am to be about.

God has been showing me lately that the things I see my kids doing that trouble me are a mirror reflection of what I am modeling to them! So I decided it was time to organize our day with God at the center of everything we do so that we could in a sense "walk with Him" all day. I promised to share this 'Heavenly minded' schedule with you all and so here it is:

6:00 Wakeup time for me to spend with the Lord laying my day at His feet and acknowledging my desperate need for Him each and every day through prayer - my 'Mary' time! (  :

6:30 Kids wake up, get dressed, and tidy their rooms

"Love not sleep" Prov. 20:18

7:00 Daily chores (while singing and listening to praise songs)

"He who is slothful in his work is a brother to Satan" Prov. 18:9

7:30 Breakfast

"If you do not work, you do not eat" 2 Thess. 3:10

8:00 Bible study and discussion (this includes prayer and praise time also)

"Man can not live on bread alone, but by every  word that proceeds from the mouth of God" Matt. 4:4

9:00 Cole and Owen's summer school (they are learning to read this summer)

Our main focus here is that God wrote His Word and therefore expects that we will learn to read so that we can read what He wrote to us - our Scriptures for this are the many references to Jesus when He asked the Pharisees "Have you not read?" we also are focusing on the necessity of being able to read God's Word in order to be wise.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" Prov. 1:7

10:30 Garden and Botany - we have been learning all about botany through our garden by reading a wonderful old book called 'A Child's Book of Nature" by Worthington Hooker - beautifully and very gently written back in the 1800's for children - we love it! I have also been using our garden to illustrate key Scriptural truths like 'sowing and reaping', 'abiding in the vine', and so on. This is also a time for working in the garden pulling weeds (bet you can't guess what I used those to teach about) ( : and watering it.

"Their soul shall be like a well watered garden and their sorrow shall be no more!"  Jer. 31:12

12:00 Lunch

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God"  1 Cor. 10:31

Okay - this is where I will end for now - part 2 to come soon!
