Under His Construction

• Nov. 6, 2007 - Home School Radio Shows

If you have not signed up for the free weekly radio shows at Homeschool Radio Shows than I encourage you to do so right now. They are excellent! Here is the description of this week's free download:

The story of Elder William Brewster and the other Mayflower pilgrims is one that has much depth to it. When we think of Thanksgiving, we think of turkeys, Indians, pumpkin pie, pilgrims, the Mayflower and other symbols of holiday... but what we don't think about is the reason behind why the pilgrims left their home to venture to a New World. They faced the perils of the sea, sickness, famine and for some death just to start anew in a land they knew little about.

This is the story of William Brewster, the ruling elder of the Scrooby congregation, who had  started a printing venture that specialized in printing Puritan Gospel tracts--  tracts that were illegal in England at the time. So it was that as the Pilgrims made ready to sail, Brewster was in hiding while the king's soldiers sought to imprison him, and he was actually smuggled aboard the Mayflower. Listen to his story... and the story of the Mayflower Compact which became a "stepping stone" toward freedom and government in this new world, in this excellent episode of American Portraits, originally broadcast back in 1948.

In addition this week they are offering a free e-book download Homeschool For The Holidays. A book filled with tips for the holidays from other homeschoolers.

Aren't these great! My problem is that I keep forgetting to download the stories. I might have to become a member, so I can access them all. :)

Robert Green of You Need a Story also has free radio shows.
http://www.YouNeedAStory.com Enjoy!

Peace to you,
Renae

Thanks Renae! It was Robert Green - for some reason when I was typing this up I couldn't locate his website where you sign up for his. His stories are so very good too - My kids enjoy both of these - I am thinking of getting MP3 players for them for Christmas so that I can load all of the stories we have so far onto them. I probably have so many that I could fill lots of MP3 players and still have more stories to go! ( :

Love,
Mandi

but the funny thing is that although I have downloaded many of the shows we don't really listen to them, b/c they are on my computer. I think I need to change this at some point and not waste all the great audio I have here.

I have started organizing them into their related subjects - so Pilgrim stories go in with all of my America's Foundings school stuff. I also do this with the weekly free downloads from the Homeschool e-store and anything else I get like that. That way when I am preparing a lesson for that particular subject I can look and see what all I have and weave it into our study. Any that don't fit into a subject category get placed into a just for fun stories folder - although I could probably categorize many of these into character qualities as well. Anyways that is what I have been doing to make better use of them so that they don't go to waste. I do hope to get MP3 players for the kids as well so we can load them onto those
