Under His Construction

• Nov. 29, 2007 - A call for help with a gift I am making

My dear friend and next door neighbor Andrea, who also happens to be our Pastor's wife (What a precious gift from God, moving them right next door to us!), is expecting her first baby on Christmas Day! How fun is that! Okay so maybe not so much for baby as my husband has informed me, whose birthday just happens to be the day after Christmas. )  :  But a very special Christmas gift for my sweet friend all the same!

At her request I have been putting together a notebook of all of my best parenting advice - rules of our home, favorite parenting book recommendations, favorite children's book and media resources, most important things to instill in the kids hearts, and even my favorite recipes (quick ones, freezer ones, using up the leftovers tips, ect.)  So I am calling out for your help! What is your best advice? What are your favorite resources? What things have you learned that you wish you had known right from the get-go? What are your favorite recipes that are easy for a new parent? I would love to hear anything you can share that you feel would be good to add!  Thanks in advance - I know you will all have some great tips and advice!

A Mother's Heart by Jean Fleming
You and Your Child by Chuck Swindoll

Be wise! Lot's of people take Scripture out of context to make it justify their personal views of parenting. Exercise discernment, pray at all times, and search out God's Word for the Truth.

It's never too early to pray with your kids, or read the Bible to them.

Don't underestimate your children. Teach them to hide God's word in their heart early (2-3 years).

Be consistent in personal prayer and Bible study.

You don't need a program, you need the Holy Spirit and the Bible.

Trust your God given instinct.

Surrender, surrender, surrender.

Gentle Naturals Baby Cradle Cap Treatment is the best and only one that I found to work on cradle cap! I still use it on my almost 5 year old twins when their scalps are dry. : )

I also agree whole heartedly to EEEEMommy's advice. Trust your mother's heart. You know what's best for your baby more than anyone else even though you are a new mommy. But do seek a mentor, a trusted friend to confide in.

Huggies diapers work better on boys then Pampers.

Nurture your marriage relationship. That comes first, the best thing a parent can leave their children is a legacy of love between their parents.

Sing to your child, no matter how awful you think you sound! Your child will love it and will remember those songs. My 7 year old still remembers some that I sang to him as an infant. So do the twins. : )

How exciting for your friend! A baby for Christmas! I hope I'm not too late Mandi, I just found this post. : )

How are you my friend? It has been a while. Thanks so much for your tips - they are so true! I have always sang to my little ones too - praise songs - I figure it is never too early to teach them to start praising the Lord! You are definitely not too late - I am still working on the gift.
How are things going for you? I check your blog here and there - I like the Christmas design! ( :

Have a wonderful Christmas Summer!

Warmly,
Mandi
