Under His Construction

• Jan. 23, 2008 - Some tips on finding Biblical Principles

Clues that indicate you have found a Principle (a timeless truth):
1. Is it a statement about God's character? (God never changes)
2. Is it reinforced in the New Testament? (This signals that it is transcultural)
3. Is it a statement about the nature of man? (We're still pretty similar)
4. Is the original audience very broad? (This signals that it may be transcultural)
5. Is it a reason for something else? (Reasons are often already principles)
6. Is it given as a superlative statement? (e.g. always, never, everything, etc.)

I was actually discussing something similar with a friend last night. It was nice to see what you thought in writing. Lori
