Under His Construction
• Feb. 4, 2008 - "I wish for world peace"
Every since I was first introduced to the JCPenney Christmas catalog I have been wishing wishes big and small. My wishes have changed much over the years from toys to clothes to boys to cars to wedding gifts (ahh yes - bridal registries) to baby gifts to homeschool resources and on and on.... But lately God has been working in my heart and challenging me to line those wishes up with His desires for my life. So I am very happy to play along with this tag from my sweet friend Renae because part of the tag includes me sharing my Spiritual wishes for myself. Oh how many I have but the ones at the forefront of my mind are as follows:
1. A Servant's Heart - you know that lady that is the first to start cleaning up after potluck at church? The one who is always seen at the sink doing dishes, wiping the tables, putting everything away? The one is the first to offer her service whenever she sees a need in someone elses life? That's the heart I am seeking! My mom is such an awesome example of this. She is forever doing things for my SIL and myself as well as so many others. She is always the first up clearing the table and doing the dishes after family dinners, church potlucks or wherever she is. Lord help to to always be looking and listening for needs that I, with my kiddos serving along side of me, can meet for your glory.
2. Patience - Oh to be longsuffering like God! There are two kinds of anger: righteous anger and self-righteous anger - unfortunately mine is more oft the latter! I know my own dependance upon God for santification but forget that my children are just as dependant on God's grace in their own lives. Lord please the anger and condemnation out of my heart when disciplining my precious children.
3. Humility and Meekness - It's not all about me, it's not all about me, its not all about me! Anyone else have to continually remind themselves of this? Lord help me to keep my eyes on you. Let my words and actions always reflect you and a heart that seeks Your glory, not mine.
4. Discipline - Any of you who read here regularly know the efforts we are making in our household to establish this. Guess what? It is working! Small steps I'm tellin' ya, small steps! Lord please continue to build discipline into the areas of our life that You see fit. Please continue to give us the Your grace to be faithful in the little things, growing us to be faithful in the big things.
5. An Unquenchable Hunger for God's Word - My two oldest kiddos and I have made a commitment to read through the Bible this year. Sadly, this is a first for me in all of the ten years I have been a believer. Lord, as I read through Your Word this year, grow my thirst and hunger for it a little more each and every day!
So now to my material wishlist:
1. A large library filled with incredible books, both old and new!
2. 10 acres of land where we could live self-sufficiently.
3. The knowledge of how to live self-sufficiently.
4. The work ethic it takes to live self-sufficiently (oops - now I am getting back to a spiritual list!)
5. To travel the world - any of you wanna join me?
SO now comes the difficult task of tagging 5 others - hmmmm?
How about
