Writing Projects and Gift Giving Ideas for the Family

South Sound volunteers are collecting gift - filled shoe boxes Nov 17th-24 as part of the world wide campaign Operation Christmas Child.  the local goal is 8,000 boxes.  To participate fill shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and a letter of encouragement.  The boxes will be sent to over 90 countries who are struggling because of natural disasters, war, terrorism, disease, famine or poverty.  Drop boxes from 1-3pm at Evergreen Christian Community, 1000 Black Lake Blvd SW, Olympia 800-910-3582;  or between 11-2pm Nov 17-22 or 10-noon the 24th at A&E Relocation Services, 2604 Willamette Drive NE, Lacey 800-910-3582. For more details  call 253-572-1155 or Packing instructions can be found online at www.sumaritanspurse.org.  This ministry can be donated to from any place in the United States and other countries.

Make a Wish- Write a letter to Santa, and help make wishes come true.  Starting November 9th, bring your stamped letter to Macy's, addressed to Santa at the North Pole, and drop it into Santa's special letterbox.  Macy's will count them up and for each letter received will donate $1 to the Make a Wish Foundation, up to $1,000,000.  Macy's will deliver letters to the post office, and together collect a million reasons to believe. Visit macys.com/believe.

Red Cross to take cards to US troops - Through Dec. 10th, the public can send their greeting cards, with adequate postage and return address, to Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, Md 20791-5456.  To speed delivery, mailers should not send care packages, money or any inserts, including glitter. The cards will be screened, sorted and distributed to military hospitals and bases nationally and overseas in time for the holidays. Col Dennis Doyle, Walter Reed Health Care System's deputy commander for administration stated ; " There is no objective way to measure the effect of receiving a card or letter on someone recovering from combat wounds, these letters made huge impact on moral...." . Lt. Col. David Oclander who was in Iraq last year stated; " The eyes of the soldier really light up, it really helps brighten their days, especially when they are enduring some long separations."

Thank you to Deann for sharing these ideas.

To express our thanks, I hope you will view the following video for more details and a personal message of thanks from all of us. We could not have done it without you!
