In All Your Ways

Friday, December 15, 2006 - The Blind Will See

My favorite Christmas song would have to be "Mary, Did You Know". The lyrics are so powerful! It's so inspiring. Mary's story is so dramatic and powerful. A Jewish, teenage girl, probably around 15...engaged to a Godly man...visited by an angel...and then she became pregnant. Did her parents believe her when she told them why she was pregnant? It was such a disgrace to become pregnant out of wedlock...what was Joseph's first reaction? He was going to divorce her quietly, but then he was visited by an angel as well! So now Mary and Joseph were crazy! Or...this was going to be the most miraculous and awesome thing in the history of the world. And then, the Emperor got the grand idea to tax the whole world! So they had to travel to Bethlehem...a carpenter with his fiance, a pregnant teenage girl! (Hormones must have been going crazy!)
And then having nowhere to stay, no one to deliver the baby, no place to put Him but in a manger. And to top it all off, here come dirty shepherds running down the streets searching for them!
But it was all in God's plan!
Take a look at these lyrics.

Mary did you know that your baby boy
would some day walk on water?

Mary did you know that your baby boy
would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.
Mary did you know that your baby boy
would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy
would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy
has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby,
you have kissed the face of God.
Oh Mary did you know---
The blind will see, the deaf will hear,
the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak,
the praises of the lamb---.
Mary did you know that your baby boy
is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy
would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding is the great
I AM.

Thanks for reminding me of this song! I just don't hear it often enough. It is definitely one of my favorites. It makes you realize just how awesome God is, and it addresses my "wonderings" about just how much Mary really understood as Jesus was growing up as her son. She had to be pondering so MUCH in her heart!

i love that song. i was singing along with it while i read. i think Mary had alot of courage. To believe she had to marry a man she never really knew and to have a baby so young must have been quite scary but yet, she went on anyway. she had the baby and her life was blessed. Once u think of it.. if the angel didnt appear to Joseph none of the following would of happened. Thats quite amazing of how perfect everything was set to in the end. As i look at my life as a Christian i can see how the Lord has helped me with each problem and how it has given me a teaching. Now i think THATS amazing. and to think he would have the patience with ME. I'm going to read some other posts now but im happy i could stop by and read this. TTEL!
