March already....
I'm really in the groove now.....I am truly tickled pink about our new place.  It's just right for all of us.  All of my irritations I was feeling before the move have disappeared.  The kids and I have gotten into a routine of work, reading, games, etc.  Expectations can sometimes be such a wonderful thing.  I finally got out and met another homeschooling family.  We met at a local library, I met her online in a egroup for african american homeschoolers.  It was so refreshing.  The children were so pleased, they actually left the library skipping.  We have many of the same concerns and focuses, so I am very grateful.  I really hate meeting people.  It's not a shy thing probably more of a fear of being judged.  But hopefully by summer, we will have made at least a couple of connections.  I am using Reading Reflex with my 6yo, it slow going, but we are moving along.  I also picked up the Bob Books for him, he is really excited that he finally has some books he can read all on his own.  I am looking to get a good  reading list for my 3rd and 7th graders.   I am hoping to cut my hours down to 30 at work, to allow just a bit more energy devoted to the kids and homemaking.  I going to begin the "secret girl keeper" set of dates with my 12yo.  I pretty excited.  The mom I met thought we may also begin a keepers of the faith group.  Does it seem that all things appear to be falling together and progressing once the school year is about to come to an end?  I guess that's why we do year round.  I like how Abeka Language is progressing.  I am still flip flopping on scientist.  We do different expirement books here and there, really just following the kids' intrests.  I still will probably lean toward Sonlight if I was to follow an exact curriculum.  I am so glad the God opened my brain to keeping my children at home and close to me.  My relationship with each one of them is significantly different.  I look at myself each day in the mirror to see what I need to do different.  Watching my kids collect sticks and stones and holding on to them as a most precious treasure is only possible through this adventure we call life learning.

I am sending out a "mass apology" to everyone I told about "The Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge". I have received some comments in regard to leaving the button on people's blogs and I feel the best way to make sure there aren't others who are offended, is to apologize to those I sent the notice to.

I feel just horrible that some thought I was "advertising" in some way when my intention was to share with other homeschoolers what I was offering as encouragement and a way for us to join together.

If you are one who was upset by my post, please feel free to delete it and email me or leave a comment on my page and I will personally apologize. To those who have joined in The Challenge, I'm so looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us and hope we will all be able to bless our families and grow in the Lord through it! Thank you most importantly for seeing my heart. I never meant to disregard anyone's post when I left the comment about the Challenge, and want you all to know that anything you ever have to say to me, whether on topic or not, is more than welcome on my blog. I will also be making a new category on my blog that will list those of you who don't mind getting urgent prayer requests or information from time to time. I hope this way I will be able to avoid upsetting anyone similarly in the future.

Thanks for allowing me to comment on your blog. I hope you will accept my apology (and not be upset that I'm "off topic" from your post, but I have many people to get to still tonight).

In Him,
Amy Verlennich

Hey thanks for signing my blog! I guess this blogging thing is really cathching on. Well I hope you are all settled in now and enjoy blogging away.
I afraid of new people too because I'm a little shy and I'm afraid of being judged. But it's something the Lord can work out.

Apr. 3, 2006 - Hello!

I get so intimidated by the whole educational side of homeschooling and I want to quit, really my motivation for homeschooling has more to do w/ the relationship I am able to enjoy w/ my children that I feel wouldn't otherwise be possible. My son who will turn 11 in 7 days reaches to hold my hand while we are walking. It just shouts to me that we are doing the right thing!!!!

Have you taken a look at Apologia for science? It says it is Charlotte Mason style if you like that kind of thing. My thing is it is pretty cheap(about $35 from Rainbow Resource), written on a 4th grade level I think...and very conversational and some of the experiments are very simple(YAY! ) and some are more in depth.

I understand about meeting new people, to me it is almost like dating! And what if the moms like each other but her kids behave terribly??? Or worse one of your own is acting bad that day???!!!

I sure enjoy "talking" to you!
Jennifer

I too enjoy the attachment that homeschooling helps to foster. I love the cozy times spent sitting on a chair reading a good book together. Going on nature walks together, the hands on learning that every day life provides, et. I love being able to help each one learn in the way he learns best.

Thank you for stopping in and commenting on my blog. I really have enjoyed reading yours, you should give us an update when you get a chance.
I totally love being the one to teach my children and being the one that get's to see the "lightbulb" moments when they finally "get it". I wouldn't trade that for anything!
I pray that you are all settled into your new home and have made more homeschooling friends. It is hard isn't it?
Blessings,
Trish

I was cruising the sites and found yours. It's exciting to meet young homeschoolers and I'm glad you met another African American homeschooler. I noticed your comment about being judged and I guess I can follow your train of thought. I'm multi-cultural. What I mean by that is my Mom is Scottish and German, my Dad is French and Native American. I'm--multi-cultural. To add to that, I have an adopted Chinese sister, Jewish brother, Granadan sister-in-law and a Portugese son-in-law. Definitely multi-cultural. But I remember wishing so badly to have someone Native American in the homeschool network we were part of. It wasn't that anyone was mean or cruel. I just sometimes really felt like a minority. I'm glad you have this new friend. I'm also excited for you because you will love home teaching. It's definitely hard work and stressful but the relationships I have with my girls are incredible. We used A Beka because the university nearby considered it an excellent curriculum. I've never tried the other one you mentioned. Anyhow, now that I've babbled on and made a fool of myself, I'll sign off. It was nice meeting you.
