I got a few of these in an e-mail from a friend, thought they were worth passing on.

Stewardesses is the longest word typed by the left hand only.

Lollipop is the longest word typed with the right.

No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple.

Dreamt is the only word in the English language that ends in “mt”.

Your eyes never grow from birth, but your ears and nose never stop.

There are only 4 words that end with “dous”: tremendous, stupendous, horrendous and hazardous.

There are only two words that have all of the vowels in order: abstemious and facetious.

Typewriter is the longest word on one row of the keyboard.

A goldfish has a memory span of 3 seconds.

A snail can sleep for 3 years.

An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain.

February 1865 is the only recorded month in history to have NO full moon.

Enjoy, and feel free to post any more you find in the comments.

• Nov. 28, 2008 - Fun With the Dictionary mark 1

Perusing a nearby dictionary, I suddenly noticed and oddity. And another. And another. So, this post was born. Did you know, (abbreviations notwithstanding) aardvark is the first word in most dictionaries? (zwieback, a form of toasted biscuit, is the last) also, “zillion” is apparently an actual word. Who knew. Finally, impassioned and impassive stand right next to each other in the dictionary. (Bonus: add a comma in between the I and M in impassive to find its definition)

The final part of this post is a short critiques to my dictionary. I didn’t find many errors, but here are a few. (Note: any further errors I find will be edited into the post here)

Definition of “gas”: A liquid with the capability to expand. Sorry. A gas is a state of matter in and of itself.

To close this post, I would like to point something out to all of you who design commercials: The new I pod is not the “funnest I pod ever” “Funnest” is not a word. Look it up.

• Nov. 15, 2008 - Wild Card

Recently I have been searching for a hobby, something else to do in my spare time. (blogging is a good start, but there are only so many entries I can post a day without running out of ideas) So, after seeing it on The television (Isn't that how all adventures start?) I decided to try my hand at throwing playing cards. After a few failed attempts, and a few lessons from my Dad, I finally had it down to needing practice. (read: I may sling them into every available tiny slot, but at least they fly.) In any case, keep an eye on the blog for updates, should any major break through occur.

• Nov. 12, 2008 - Food For Thought

I didn’t really have an idea for blogging today, but, as fate would have it, one was presented to me. I always thought that I hated chili. All chili. However, tonight I realized that no matter what you think, there is always something to give you food for thought.

• Nov. 11, 2008 - Veteran's Day

Happy Veteran’s Day! Although I don’t really celebrate the holiday, I do appreciate anyone who has served the country and I am dedicating this post to my grandfather, who was a master sergeant in the Marine Corps. (For those of you that didn’t know this, that is the highest rank* that can be achieved by an enlisted person, in other words, without going in specifically as an officer). Thanks to all you veterans, and here’s hoping you enjoy your holiday.

*edit: I have been told by said grandfather that it is the SECOND highest enlisted rank.

• Nov. 11, 2008 - Checking All Spelling

*this post was done without the aid of spell check*

Recently I have learned to do somthing new with my computer. I probably should have learned to do this sooner, but now I know. For my last two posts, I have typed them up in Microsoft Word, then cut and pasted them into this box (yes, I didn't know how to cut and paste until recently), so that I could have the aid of spell check. Even after two posts, I am tired of this. So, in spite of the potential disaster, I have decided to type up this post without spell check. Please enjoy the many spelling mistakes Im sure are in this post, and be sure that after this I will indeed be checking *all* spelling.

• Nov. 10, 2008 - The First Entry

Hello. Welcome to my blog. I’m a home school student in 8th grade, interested in rock climbing and chemistry, and video games. I spend most of my free time on one of the three. Recently, I have noticed that although I love being home schooled, I am not terribly social. I have decided to start this blog so that I can talk to other home school students, and because although I have been told my random thoughts shouldn’t come out my mouth, I was not told that I couldn’t blog about them. Although I have done my best on this entry, I realize that you must have thoughts, random or otherwise, before you can type them out and although this may have been a bit bland, I assure you that this will get better as it picks up speed. Probably.

If you're a homeschool student, or a non-homeschool student with a blog around here, please say hi in the comments.  I'm looking forward to meeting you!
