Drive to Death Valley: The Story of Our Trip

 Chapter One: The Early Drive
We left early in the morning of March 20, 2008.  It was 6:20 AM, Sir Henry (Daddy) was driving, Elizabeth Joy (Mama) Occupied the front passenger seat while Emily Rose was happily seated in the left passenger seat and Forest Zoo claimed the middle, our large ice chest resided in the right back passenger seat.  I now think it a very good thing that policemen do not give out tickets for un-buckled Ice chests because ours did NOT have a seat belt on!  As we drove over the mountains that are close to our house you could see little white snow flakes falling.
The snow flakes caused a brief bit of worry but it did not last long as we could most certainly see that it was not sticking.  As we got higher we started to see a small amount of snow building up beside the road, but that did not cause much worry. Then the road was starting to look a little bit slippery so Sir Henry slowed down. It got slicker as they started down the other side of the mountains and Sir Henry asked that everyone in the car be quiet so he could concentrate.  The car's occupants slowly quieted down and they finally made it to the bottom of the last hill with snow.  They Approached a town where Sir Henry's favorite grade school teacher lived.  Sir Henry called him on the Ham Radio.

The End of Chapter one.

More Soon!

My Dear Emily Rose,

Did the cooler, which lacked a seat belt, manage to stay in place without bumbling all over the car, crushing poor Forest up against your side of the car?

I shall be looking forward to further chapters regarding your adventures.

Best regards,
Hildegard
