Chapter 20: Lost Love

Alainia heard the sound of something sharp piercing flesh and spun around to see Jason lying on the ground with a sword in his chest. Her eyes widened in horror and tears stained her cheeks. David looked between her and Jason and a look of realization dawned on his face.

"Ah," he sighed. "You loved him." David walked up to Alainia, pulling his sword out of Jason's chest making him wince in pain. "Well, let me just ease the pain in your heart." He raised his sword and lunged it at her, but before it even came within an inch of her chest, a whip of fire hit his hand making it burn. It was Lurik, holding an orange and red whip in one hand and a blue whip in the other.

Seeing her chance to grab David's sword, Alainia dove for it and plunged it through his back and up through his head. David's eyes began to roll around in his head and he fell foward. Alainia nuged his body to make sure he was dead, and a pool of blood spilled out of his mouth. Satisfied, she hurried over to Jason and kneeled beside him. He took her hand.

"I'm sorry I yelled at you so many times," Alainia whispered. Miecyzslaw ran over with her bag of healing potions and herbs. Alainia tried so hard to hold back her tears, but she couldn't. They came down her cheeks like little rivers.

"No," gasped Jason. Miecyzslaw starting grinding up herbs and pouring a whole bunch of potions into a bowl. "It is I who should be sorry. I should have taught you more. Some place inside me said that you could handle the advanced work even though it was dangerous, but I didn't want to see you get hurt." He smiled weakly at her and put her hand against her cheek, wiping away her tears. "But now I see that I was wrong. I just wish we got to spend more time together instead of these past four months."

"Me, too," Alainia said weakly. Miecyzslaw had then finshed the healing solution and tore open his shirt to reveal a gash that was at least three inches long and it looked as though it went very deep. Miecyzslaw caught her breath. "What is it?" Alainia asked nervously.

"I...I can't heal that," she said. "It's beyond my skill. Even if I heal the outside, I won't be able to heal the gash that's in his heart. He will still die no matter what I do." Alainia's face became screwed up as she again tried to fight back the tears, but they came never-the-less.

"Alainia," said Jason. She turned to him and saw that tears were coming out of his eyes too. "I know I'm going to die. So at least let me die with pride." Silver Moon walked over and nudged Jason's head affectionately. He turned to the silver-blue dragon and smiled. "You have been with me through so much," he said to him. "If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have been chosen to train Alainia. Thank you, and you will always be like a brother to me." He turned back to Alainia. "Take care of Silver Moon, Alainia. And most definately take care of Snow Fire. If she dies, you die. And if you die, she dies." He coughed violently. And without warning, Alainia leaned over him and kissed him one last time...

It was a sad and victorious day for the Guardian Academy. They won a great battle, but lost a brave Guardian in the process. When the demons saw that Alainia had killed David, Satasan's son, they fled back to the under water cavern where Satasan lived. Alainia knew that Satasan was going to try and strike the Academy again and again until it was either the Guardians or him that would fall. Who knows how long that would go on.

Alainia spent the rest of the day in her room lying on her bed while everyone else had gone to the victory banquet. She didn't feel like celebrating at the moment. She already missed Jason so much. Miecyzslaw then came in to her room.

"Hey," she said. "You going to be okay?" she came over and sat on the bed next to Alainia.

"I think so," Alainia sighed. "I just never thought that Jason would actually leave me. I loved him so much." A tear rolled down her cheek. "It isn't fair!" She dug her head into her pillow crying her eyes out. She didn't know how much she could take. The fact that she had killed a man was enough to make Alainia have nighmares for months on end.

"Well," Miecyzslaw put and arm around her best friend. "Life isn't always fair. But there is one place he's still alive." She smiled at Alainia as she looked up with a confused look in her face. "Because you loved him, he will live on in your heart." Alainia gave Miecyzslaw a watery smile.

"No offense," she said. "But that was kind of cheesy." Miecyzslaw started laughing.

"Well, that's what I get for practicing in front of the mirror," she got up and got ready to head out the door. "I just hope that you will move on. And being the ruler of all univereses means that the ones who have given us these many abilities we have will allow you to visit Jason's heaven. And if he loves you as much as he says, then he might even visit you in your dreams." Alainia got up as well.

"I guess I'll go down with you to the banquet," she sighed, slipping her feet into some flip-flops. Miecyzslaw waited for her. "And plus, even if I don't see Jason ever again, there's no point in morning over his death for the rest of my life. I guess I should just move on."

"Yeah, you should," and the two of them left the bedroom and walked down to the Dinner Hall. Little did Alainia know that this Banquet would anounce her as the queen and that she would face even more dangers in the years to come."

The End...

Chapter 19: The Battle

For the next few days, the Five and Jason waited anxiously for Satasan to arrive with his armies. They were all excited and scared at the same exact time. Codie would pace back and forth in front of the fire at night, and Lurik kept on walking over the edge to check to see if anything was coming. The rest of the group would just sit in their tents or keep looking over there shoulder thinking they heard something. Alainia was getting tired of waiting for something to happen, so she and Snow Fire decided to go for a flight.

Meanwhile, Satasan sat upon his thrown made out of human bones in the crushing depths of the ocean. His sleek, black hair flowed over his shoulders and down his back and no one, not even his own son, could look into his cold, black eyes. Satasan's teeth were like shark's and were extremely yellow from eating raw fish all the time. He was burly and strongly built in the shoulders. His son, who was standing next to him, looked exactly like his father, only younger and with red eyes.

A blood red demon came walking in to the throne room and bowed so low that his long, crooked nose almost touched the floor.

"Ye Majesty," he said to Satasan in a gurgly voice. "Ye summond thee?"

"Yes, General Murder," Satasan said in a voice that was as slick as his hair. "It's time to attack the Five Guardians." Murder looked up in shock, showing beady, black eyes.

"Are ye sure 'tis time for thy battle?" the demon said in a trembling voice.

"Do not question my choice!" yelled Satasan, making Murder cower back against the wall. "Send the attack now!" Satasan's son, David, snickered as Murder starting to shake all over. Satasan then turned to David. "Go with General Murder and go into the battle with the demons." At this, David stopped laughing.

"B-but, Father!" he cried. "I can't go and fight. I'll surely die."

"If that's the case, then so be it," David's mouth dropped open, but he closed it quickly in fear of being slapped on the cheek. He didn't expect his father to care about him. "Now go. You're a disgrace to me."

Alainia was now up on the cloud that had the Guardian Castle on it. She didn't see any point in becoming queen. She didn't ask for any of this to happen. It just did. Maybe I should just go back to Jeffern, she thought. It doesn't seem like the Battle is ever going to happen, so it doesn't really matter. Alainia walked back up to her room with Snow Fire slowly walking behind her.

"Alainia?" Snow Fire said after a while. "What are you doing?" Alainia didn't answer at once, and she started to climb the stairwell to her room. Snow Fire growled in frustration. "Al?" the dragon tried again. It took Alainia a few seconds to realize that Snow Fire was trying to talk to her.

"What?" she snapped. Snow Fire looked shocked at how Alainia had said this. Alainia never yelled at Snow Fire even if she was mad at her.

"What are you doing?" Snow Fire asked as calmly as she could.

"I'm going home," Alainia said in a sort of dreary voice. Snow Fire stopped walking, but Alainia kept on going.

"You mean, you're going back to Jeffern?"

"That's my home, so yeah," said Alainia. "I am going back." Snow Fire stepped in front of her, forcing Alainia to stop.

"But you can't!" cried Snow Fire. "There's a war upon us and you just plan on leaving the Guardians against Satasan's armies? We don't stand a chance without you and Miecyzslaw being together."

"I don't belong here, Snow," said Alainia sadly. "I never asked to be a Guardian and I didn't want to be one. And now I'm supposed to be the Queen of the Guardians?! I don't think so!" She marched off angrily and stormed into her room. She sighed and looked down at her hands. "And I can't watch Jason die. I just can't." Alainia wen to her dresser and pulled out all her clothes and put it in her bag. Snow Fire walked into the room and flopped down on her stomach.

Then, out of no where, they heard a deafening shriek come from below the clouds. Satasan's armies were attacking the Guardians...

After about ten minutes of trying to persuade Alainia into staying, Snow Fire finally took off with Alainia on her back. They were both nervous about the battle and they didn't know what to do exactly, but Alainia had a hunch that she would know what to do after they got there.

Snow Fire dove down to the stationary cloud at a ninety degree angle. Alainia looked at what was going on on the cloud. Miecyzslaw was swinging her sword this way and that, cutting down all the demons that trried to kill her or get in her way. Lurik was right now using his sword in one hand and a fire whip in the other. He knocked over a blue demon and drove his sword into its chest. Blood was everywhere Alainia looked.

She then remembered that she didn't see Jason anywhere. Just then, Snow Fire landed in the middle of the great battle and let out a roar that shook everyone and everything. Alainia unsheathed her sword and attacked a boy that wasn't much older than her and had black hair and red eyes. The boy sensed her coming and unsheathed his own sword. The swords clanged against each other.

"Who are you?!" cried Alainia. The boy swung his sword around and made for her leg. Suddenly, the sword veared off course as if being pushed aside by an invisible shield. Alainia stared down at her leg in amazement. The boy had a look of horror on his face, but it was quickly replaced by rage.

"I might ask you the same thing, your leige," his voice was icy and it sent chills up Alainia's spine. "I am Satasan's son, David. A.K.A. your worst night mare!' And he let out a roar of rage and attacked Alainia. Speaking a run-on sentence in the language Anglo-Saxon and a flash of blue light erupted around her, sending David sprawling across the floor. Alainia walked up to him and kicked his sword out of his hand.

"Actually," she looked down at his bruised face. "I think it's the other way around. I'm Queen Alainia Montez and your worst nightmare." But David's face had an expression that Alainia had not expected. He was smiling. She heard a wizzing coming from behind her and realized that something was coming at her. Turning around, Alainia screamed. A swarm of flying demons came swooping in and she collapsed in a heap. Everything went black and the Battle echoed around her...

Jason heard a scream and quicklt turned around to see demons scratching at Alainia's face. Her screaming continued and blood went everywhere, though it wasn't hers. Even though Alainia was screaming bloody murder, the demons' screams were much louder and shriller than her's by far. Through Alainia's screams, Jason could identify a Anglo-Saxon incantation being cast. Just then, a flash of blue, red, green, and white light surrounded her and there was a loud bang.

"Oh my," exclaimed Miecyzslaw, who had walked up next to Jason and was covered in blood and her clothes were stained with mud. "I can't believe it."

"What?" asked Jason turning to her, but not before cutting down a mini demon that was coming towards them with an arm already cut off.

"She's actually combining all her powers with Snow Fire's," Miecyzslaw breathed. "If she does that, she'll be able to actually tranform into a dragon herself." She paused and her next words were as thought she were actually choking on them. "There's only problem though."

"And what is that," Jason shot an arrow at a demon that was gettin ready to attack Alainia. Miecyzslaw took a deep breath.

"If Snow Fire is killed, which most likely will happen, then Alainia will die as well," Jason looked at her in horror. Now he knew why he was destined to die in the Battle. It wasn't just to protect Alaini, but Snow Fire as well, a dragon that represented all of the elements.

Jason unsheathed his sword and ran towards David who was now getting up and getting ready to attack Alainia. David must have sensed that Jason was running towards him, for he slashed the sword in his direction. The blade barely missed Jason's head. And within a few seconds, David and Jason were in a life threatening battle over who would get to Alainia or Snow Fire first.

The battle between the two of them lasted for quite a while and bursts of colorful light kept on leaking through Alainia, who was know standing up with her hands raised in front of her as though she were pushing against a wall, and was muttering in the ancient language of dragon's the whole time. Jason and David continued fighting, but then there was a sudden pain in Jason's chest. He looked down and saw that a sword was sticking out of his chest...

Chapter 18: Waiting

It wasn't just Alainia that night who didn't get any sleep. The rest of the Five stayed up that night preparing themselves for the Battle as well. Lurik had gotten himself in his suit of armor, and this wasn't the kind of suit of armor that nights from the Mideival times wore. This particular suit of armor had every weapon imaginable that can slay a magical creature built into it, but it is as light as a feather making it easy to move in. He then practiced his fireball throwing and a bit of water ball.

There was also Pier and Codie, who shared a dorm. Pier dressed up in shorts and a T-shirt and pulled on some black hunting boots. But these weren't just any kind of shorts and T-shirt. These pieces of cloth were made of the standered protection cloth that produced an invisble sheild around him, this way he looked unprotected and whatever was attacking would attack him first. Codie, on the other hand, just grabbed his special sunglasses that could see anything invisible when he put them on, his boomerang (that was sharp enough to even cut steel), his venom sword (which had Wyvern dragon venom on it), and his water ball gloves.

Then there is Miecyzslaw, who has now been known to be called Missy. She did her best to look over every single text book she had on healing. After she had done that, she went and got on her battle suit. It was her own invention. It was a kind of suit that could repair itself and her. Not to mention it will allow her to shape shift. This will be an advantage for she has mastered how to shape shift into a dragon. Just then, she heard a noise behind her. Missy swung around, making her black and orange hair go everywhere, and saw Bjorn standing in the doorway.

"What do you think you're doing?" he asked.

"I'm preparing for the Battle that's coming at the crack of dawn," she spat at him. Bjorn sighed and walked over to her and pulled up a chair.

"Missy," he put his hand on her shoulder. "You don't know what a battle can be like."

"Excuse me?" Missy scoffed. "I think I know heck of a lot more about it than you do. At least I'm not running away from a fight like you did. Because of you, Codie and Alainia don't have any parents." These words cut Bjorn as deep as a sword.

"I didn't run away," he said simply.

"Oh yeah?" Missy shouted. "Then what was it that you did?! Went for reinforcments?! Alexandria Montez, Alainia's mother, told you to stay put! And what did you do? You ran! Alainia and Codie have suffered from your actions and your choices!" They were quiet for a long time. Missy breathing heavily.

"You don't understand," he whispered hoarsely. "I was about to lose the one I loved, and I still lost her."

"Yeah well, Alainia suffered more than you know. She knew what happened to her parents and she still trusted you. She said she knew who you were when she first saw you." Bjorn looked up at her.

"She knew?" he asked shakily.

"She's known, Bjorn," sighed Missy. She put on her belt and pulled on a jacket. Just because the suit was practically indestructable, that didn't mean that it imune to coldness. "Alainia knows everything. You can't hide anything from her because Jason intruduced her to her telepathy powers."

"Oh," Bjorn got up to leave. "It's almost dawn. You better go wake up Ice Moon and get ready to head out." He walked out the door. Missy watched him leave. She got up and went to wake up Ice Moon, but he was already awake and listening to the conversation. They were silent until dawn and they left for Alainia's room.

Alainia was already on Snow Fire's back and the ceiling was already open and they could see clouds that were painted in rainbow colors. They couldn't see the sun yet, but they knew they would soon.

"Al," whispered Pier. "Where is this stationary cloud you were telling us about?" Alainia sighed.

"Actually," she said finally. "I have no idea where it is. I guess we just have to look for the cloud that's not moving. There aren't that many clouds in the sky today, so it shouldn't be too hard." As the rest of the Five came into the room, Alainia couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen to Jason. If he really was going to die, then why wasn't he doing his best to make his last days the best?

"Hey!" came a familiar voice from the doorway. Alainia spun around and saw Jason standing in the doorway in full armor and his silver-blue dragon, Silver Moon, was standing behind him, fifty feet tall and a wing span of over a hundred and fifty feet. Alainia then noticed that he had a big smile on his face. "Thought you guys might like some help finding that stationary cloud." He winked at her and she smiled back.

"Alright, you guys," called Alainia. "Let's get going." And the others lifted out of the room on the back of their dragons. She then turned to Jason who was climbing onto Silver Moon's back. "Jason, what do you think you're doing?"

"What do you mean?" he turned around and looked at her.

"Why are you coming with us?" she asked. "Aren't destined to die?"

"Well, yeah," he shrugged. "But if I do die, I want to die with honor. I don't want to die knowing that I was a coward and I ran away from the legendary Battle."

"Legendary?" Alainia cocked an eyebrow. "It hasn't even happened yet."

"Well, the soon to be legendary," Jason said.

"Alainia! Jason!" called Missy from over head. "Are you coming or what?" Snow Fire then flapped her wings and took off without warning Alainia. When they got up there, Missy looked at me with a strange look on her face. A look that Alainia had never seen before. She then turned around and flew away from them and Alainia followed.

It was noon when the Five and Jason finally found the stationary cloud. It was right over an ocean where the Coucil of Races suspected Satasan's army might attack. Since the merpeople had fled, it was going to take all the Guardians in the academy to move the cloud. You know how dragons have special powers? Well, Guardians didn't only have the water and fire ball powers. Actually, all the dragons powers could be channeled into the Guardian so that they, too, had the same exact powers. No one, not even the oldest Guardian in the academy, knew quite how this happened...it just did. At the moment, Pier and Lurik were setting up the tents that they would be camping in. Of course, it might have been easier if they let Moon Beam help them.

"No, no, no!" cried out Lurik. "That pole is supposed to go there in the middle! Not sticking out of the roof!"

"Sorry!" shouted Pier. "Maybe you should stop standing around and just help!"

"Well, you know what! I-"

"All right, you two," Alainia stepped in. "Just give it a rest. If we're going to be fighting Satasan's armies, then we need to not be fighting amongst ourselves. Get a grip, okay?" And she walked towards Snow Fire. The red and white dragon let out a low sigh that erupted from her belly.

"What is it this time, Alainia?" Snow Fire asked as Alainia sat down next to her.

"Nothing," she said not looking into Snow Fire's blue eyes.

"I've known you all my life, Al," she said, starting up and arguement. "I think I should know when something's wrong." Snow Fire moved her head towards Alainia. The delicious smell of cherry pie came from the dragon's nostrils. Cherries had quickly become Snow Fire's favorite food, and it was why she was so strong.

"There's nothing wrong, Snow Fire," Alainia said crossly holding her head high. "And if there was, I would tell you." Snow Fire rolled her blue eyes and let out a low rumble that passed as a sigh for a dragon.

"No you wouldn't," Snow Fire said grumpily. The dragon turned her back on Alainia making her fall over. She growled and pound her fists into the ground. Alainia got up and walked over to the edge of the cloud and looked down at the ocean. Looking up at the stars, Alainia realized that there was something wrong with her...and there was a reason. It was Jason.

"You know," came a voice from behind her. Alainia spun around and saw Jason standing right behind her. "It's not going to help being mad at your best friends. I'm still going to die."

"But you can't," tears stung Alainia's eyes. "I won't let it happen." Jason walked towards her and took her hands in his own.

"Alainia," he said softly. "If I'm going to die, then I'm going to die protecting you. I don't know if you know this, but Satasan isn't trying just to gain power over the Guardians. He's trying to gain power over you, the most powerful Guardian since time began." Alainia smiled and big, fat tears rolled down her cheeks.

Now that they got everything worked out, they had to start doing something that was going to be the hardest part of this Battle.

Chapter 17: Preparing For The Battle

For the next three days, the Five were in the library whenever they could looking up everything about combat. Alainia and Miecyzslaw's dragons had had a sudden growth spurt and were now over thirty feet long. Snow Fire and Ice Moon were learning to fly together and Miecyzslaw and Alainia would go out and practice riding on their dragons at night. Tonight was espiecally special because the rest of the members of the Five were going to go and ride on their dragons with them for once.

"I can't wait to ride on Moon Wing," Codie said. Moon Wing was his dragon and she was practically transparent. Instead of breathing fire, she would beathe moon beams which can destroy anything. "I've never rode on her before because I'm a guy...which I really do not get." The group started to laugh. At the moment, they were in the Dinner Hall eating lunch. Today they were eating meatloaf, which most of the time didn't look like meatloaf. Lurik was picking at his food and he made a face.

"I swear," he said pushing his plate away from him. "This meatloaf is just a bunch of left overs compressed into a tiny block." The others muttered in agreement.

"You think it's safe to add salt?" joked Pier. "Or do you think it will explode?"

"Hopefully not," said Miecyzslaw. She took a bite and looked as though she was going to gag.

"Don't hurt yourself," said Codie. Alainia was just sitting there picking at her food and eating it, not caring that it taste horrible. "Al? Are you okay? You've hardly spoken to us these past few days."

"Huh?" Alainia looked up. "Oh, sorry. I was just thinking about this so called Battle."

"Why are you thinking about it so much?" asked Pier. "I mean, it's not like someone's supposed to be killed is it?" Miecyzslaw rolled her eyes and whopped him upside the head. "Ow! What in the world was that for?!" She gestured at Alainia and mouthed the word Jason. "Oh...well, I was just joking."

Alainia got up and went to put her tray away. Miecyzslaw turned to look at Pier. Everyone there except for Pier knew that Jason was destined to die in the Battle. Miecyzslaw explained what was going to happen.

"Well I didn't know!" cried Pier. He folded his arms and leaned back in his chair. "Nobody tells me this kind of stuff anymore."

"Then ask," said Codie getting up from his seat. "Come on you guys. Maybe flying will get Alainia's mind off of Jason." And the rest of the group got up and went to put their trays in the bin up by the area where they would get their food. Miecyzslaw ran up and caught up with Alainia.

"Hey," she said looking at Alainia. "Are you going to be okay?" She nodded. "No you're not. Just forget about it. Just because one of the dragons in the Council forsaw it doesn't mean it's going to happen."

"But what if it does?" said Alainia turning to her. "It very well might. So far, the dragon has been right about everything."

"No he wasn't," she pointed out. "He wasn't right about us listening in on the Council last week."

"Yeah well, we got lucky." Miecyzslaw laughed. The boys caught up with them and they went up to Alainia's room. In the big red room were five dragons, making it extremely cramped. There was a blend of blue, red, white, cream, green, and black. Alainia walked up to Snow Fire and smiled.

"You ready?" asked Snow Fire. Alainia nodded and clambered onto the dragon's back. "Then let's go!" and Snow Fire walked over to the corner of the room and pulled a lever. The floor began to shake and the room became dark. The others climbed onto their own dragons and they all looked up at the ceiling, but there was no ceiling to look up to. They were now looking up at the starry night sky. It had been three months since they first arrived at the Guardian Castle. Now, they were riding on dragons and were getting ready to go through a war.

Snow Fire spread her wings and lifted into the sky. The other four followed. They flew away from the cloud and over a vast ocean. There was a full moon that night and you couldn't even see Moon Beam 'cause she blended in with the light. All you could see was Codie floating in midair.

"Come on," called Lurik. "Let's go check out Jeffern."

"No, we can't," Miecyzslaw called back. "We have to practice our flying so we'll be ready for the Battle in two weeks. We don't have time to go to Jeffern."

"Oh come on," whined Codie. "I mean we haven't been to Jeffern in three months."

"And don't you think it would be a good idea to see our families again?" asked Pier.

"It would be a bad idea if we got caught not being in our rooms back in the castle," reasoned Alainia. "We're not even allowed to be out in the sky at night."

"Then why are we even out here in the first place?" asked Pier's black dragon, Shadow. "Won't we get in trouble?"

"Maybe," said Snow Fire. "But since Alainia's the queen, whatever she says pretty much goes."

"Well," Moon Beam did a flip in midair making Codie sway a little. "Let's make the best of our time and have some fun." And they flew off into the night sky. Lurik's dragon, Devine (Lurik had named him after her mother) did a series of back flips. Lurik shouted out with joy and waved his hands in the air.

Laughing, Alainia lost her balance and almost fell off of Snow Fire. The Five circled around each other and got into battle formation, which looked just like a flying V, the formation in which geese and ducks usually fly in. Alainia was in the front with Codie and Pier on the right side of the V and Miecyzslaw and Lurik on the left side of the V. From this formation they usually could attack from any angle. This was one of the most criticle formations in the book Battle Choices: Formations, Fighting Stances, ect. Miecyzslaw had checked it out from the library. There were over a hundred different flying formations and it would take at least three months to explain them all.

The Five decided that they would stick with the six most basic formations. Alainia and Lurik were still working on their fire balls and the rest of the five were working on their water balls. Lurik had actually managed to master the fire whip before Alainia could which was a surprise to all of them. Miecyzslaw had been practicing her healing abilities and went over each and every book she had from the Healing Academy. Since she was the only one that could actually heal anyone, she had to be protected throughout the whole Battle.

"Shouldn't we tell Jason and Bjorn that we're doing this?" Alainia asked Miecyzslaw after the gang got in from their flight.

"I wouldn't worry about it," she answered after taking the saddle off of Ice Moon's back. "I mean it's not like their going to-" she cut off and stopped dead in her tracks. Right in front of the two girls was Jason and Bjorn looking down on them with their arms folded. "-find out."

"What do you two think your doing?" Jason towered over Alainia, who cowered back against the wall. Snow Fire growled at him. "Don't even think about it, Snow Fire! I'm not in the mood!" he said to the dragon. Miecyzslaw hated it when someone would yell at Alainia like this, and she found that she didn't like it when someone would yell at Snow Fire either.

"Look, Jason," Miecyzslaw stepped in between Jason and Alainia. "We were just practicing some battle formations so we would be prepared for the Battle. You don't have to yell at Alainia and Snow Fire because of this! She's upset enough about the fact that you're supposedly going to be killed! So just chill alright?" Jason looked at her menacingly.

"You're in as much trouble as Alainia is in, Missy," Bjorn stepped in. Miecyzslaw laughed.

"Oh yeah?" she scoffed. "Prove it!" Just then, Pier, Lurik, and Codie showed up in the doorway of Alainia's room. They must have heard Jason and Bjorn yelling, for their fists were clenched and they looked very angry. Codie looked at Miecyzslaw. The Five Guardians stick together, came his voice in her head. She smiled and turned back to Bjorn and Jason. "Alainia is the Queen and as far as I'm concerned whatever she says goes!" Alainia must have mustered up some courage for now she was standing up straight, fists and teeth clenched, and an angry look in her eye.

"You have to understand, Jason," Alainia said calmly. "We've been practicing these formations for three weeks now! The five of us don't want you to die-" Pier coughed. "-and so we've been making sure that we were ready for whatever might come at us. Lurik and I have been working on our fire powers and Codie and Pier have been working on their water powers. Miecyzslaw has even become as much as a master as I am at weapons and now could possibly be the Head Mistress of the Healing Academy."

The three boys in the doorway then moved and joined Alainia and Miecyzslaw. Pier stood next to Alainia and Codie and Lurik stood next to Miecyzslaw. Snow Fire moved in closer behind them.

"Jason," Alainia stepped closer to him. "I don't want you to go. That's why we've been doing this. Please don't tell the Council of Races."

"Well," Jason said nervously. "They kind of already know." They all groaned at the same time.

"What do you mean 'they already know'?" asked Lurik. Bjorn started to sweat and Jason shuffled his feet.

"We kind of already knew that you were sneaking out at night to do this," said Bjorn. "So we went and told the Council."

"Oh that's just great!" shouted Codie. "We're now going to be kicked out of the Academy!" The Five looked at each other. "Thank you Bjorn and Jason!"

"Come on," said Alainia shoving past Jason and turning to look at the rest of the group. "We best go and pack." She gave Jason one last look that she gave to people when she wanted to make them feel guilty. The others followed her.

"Alainia," Pier ran up to catch up with her. "Are we really going to leave?"

"I guess so," she sighed. "I might be the Queen and everything, but I don't have any power over the Council of Races. Not until the royal ceremony and I officially become the Queen of the Guardians."

"Well," said Codie as they entered the hallway. "Where are we going to go then?" Alainia turned to look at them.

"We're going to the stationary cloud that the Council were talking about. There, we will battle Satasan and his army."

"I don't think we're ready, though," said Lurik.

"We're ready," Alainia assured him. "We will leave tomorrow and dawn. Get some sleep and be ready to leave a second's notice." The Five broke apart. All accept Pier. He stayed behind and just looked at Alainia. "What?" she said.

"It's just..." Pier tried to put his thoughts into words. "You're so...different. You used to be scared to even climb a tree. Now, you're leading a...a band of rebels. What happened to that innocent girl I used to know?" Alainia sighed. She had a feeling that he would ask this question soon.

"I found out the truth and my fate changed," she finally said. "But not just my fate, me as well. I guess that when you know that people are counting on you...it really changes your priorities. My birthday is coming soon and when I turn fifteen, I'm going to be married. I found that out because Miecyzslaw and I spend so much time in the library. I found the book of laws in which the Guardians live by."

"Who are you going to marry?" he asked.

"I don't know yet," she sighed. "But I need to find out soon. I have twelve months left...and time passes by quickly here."

"Oh, okay," Pier turned around. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow morning." And he headed for his room. Alainia watched him leave. Then, out of no where, she remebered that tomorrow was her fourteenth birthday.

"We're going to battle on my birthday," she whispered to herself. "Tomorrow's going to be a handful." She walked back to her room hoping that Bjorn and Jason had left. When she got in, all she saw was Snow Fire.

"You okay?" asked the dragon.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she said. "You better get to sleep. It's a big day tomorrow and we need to be up at dawn."

"What about you?" Snow Fire asked.

"Me?" she waved her hand at Snow Fire. "I'm going to be preparing for The Battle."

Chapter 16: The Five Guardians

After Miecyzslaw had finished with Weaponry, she went to go find Alainia, Lurik, and Codie. She found them out by the tree next to the lake. She was then surprised to find that Pier was with them.

"What are you doing out here?" Miecyzslaw asked him when she got to the tree.

"What?" Pier looked startled and started messing with his blonde hair. "I don't get a hello?" He stood up and the two of them gave each other a friendly hug. "I'm so glad I'm hanging out with you guys again. I don't know how much longer I could stand all of Zoe's posse trying to be exactly like her." The group started laughing for Zoe and her posse just came marching out of the castle and the posse was making a bad attempt in trying to copy how Zoe walked exactly.

"Alainia," said Miecyzslaw walking over to the tree. "Did you tell them what we heard in the Council room yet?"
"No," she said. The three boys turned and looked at her. Taking a deep breath, Alainia started to explain what they were going to do. "You all know that I'm supposed to be queen just like my mum was." They all nodded. "Well, Satasan is still alive and he has been building an army for the past seven years. In that time, he now has enough winged demons, goblins, and who knows what else to take down the entire Guardian castle. In the Council room, Missy and I heard that the only people that can beat Satasan are us five."
"Actually," interrupted Miecyzslaw. "It was supposed to be me and Alainia, but they think that you three should be involved."  Alainia looked at her. "Sorry, continue."
"Anyways," she started again. "I think that we should go to the library and start preparing for the Battle that we're going to fight in. Jason and Bjorn are supposed to be on this stationary cloud with us and help us with the Battle. Jason said he's destined to die in the Battle and I think that this might be true because he's the youngest trainer ever and everything."
"That stinks," said Codie and Lurik at the same time.
"But it would be a good idea if we went to the library and read up all the battle formations, how to read and use runes, how to use swords and magic, and, of course, we need to freshen up on our water ball skills."
"And you and Lurik should work on your fire ball throwing," said Pier. "That way you can burn the goblins and winged demons and not just soak them to slow them down. Your fire balls could actually kill them."
"Yeah," piped up Lurik. "It's been a while since I've played with fire." The ground suddenly shook.
"What in the world?" shouted Codie. The rumbling came again. "Is there something wrong with the cloud?"
"I think the merpeople are making a storm!" shouted Miecyzslaw over the rumbling. "It's thunder!" And sure enough, they saw lighting pass overhead and a great big rumble followed. The group all covered their ears.
"Why are they doing this?!" called Alainia.
"I don't know!" called Miecyzslaw back. "But I'm going to find out!" and she ran straight into the lake and dove down into the depths once again. She swam as fast as she could and her breathing quickened with every stroke. Closer and closer she got to the underwater palace. It was just as she had remembered it. However, there was something a bit different. As Miecyzslaw swam over the gate and started to swim towards the castle, she saw that everything was diserted. Entering the castle, she ran for the throne room where she was hoping Bjorn's mother would be there.
"Hello?" she called out. "Is anyone there?" There was no answer. Cracking the door a little bit, she peeked inside. There was nobody in the throne room. "Where is everybody?" There was another rumbling, but a little louder. Walking up to the throne, Miecyzslaw looked around. Behind the throne there was a door that was shaking villontly. She opened it and looked inside the door and saw a clear window on the floor looking down on the world below. At the moment they were over an ocean.
"Wow," breathed Miecyzslaw. "I didn't think there would ever be something like this underwater." She looked around hoping to find some trace of the merpeople, but they were no where to be seen. Where could they have gone? She pictured a bunch of people with different colored tails lying dead on the sea floor. Some of them were bleeding or crying out in pain, but none of them were going to survive. Miecyzslaw shivered.

Thinking that she wasn't going to find anybody, Miecyzslaw made her way out of the castle and back up to the surface. The rumbling was still happening, but it wasn't as loud anymore. Looking up, she saw the whole group was looking at her.

"Did you find anything?" asked Pier. Miecyzslaw shook her head.

"There was nothing down there," Mieyzslaw tried to say calmly. "It was almost as though that the castle was a ruin and that the merpeople had become extinct. It was so weird. And then there was a room that I hadn't noticed before. It was behind the throne and it was really mysterious. There was a window floor that looked down below. I didn't think there would be something like that underwater, but this was strange. It felt as though the room was the one that was shaking, not the cloud."

"The room was shaking?" asked Alainia and Codie at the same time.

"How can that be?" asked Lurik. "Rooms can't shake...can they?"

"As far as I know," said Miecyzslaw. "In a world like this, it seems possible."

"Has anyone noticed that the rumbling has stopped?" asked Pier. And sure enough, there was no more rumbling and no more lightening. Pier and Alainia exchange glances. "Come on. If we're going to be ready for this big battle, we're going to need to get to the library." So the group got up and headed for the library.

Once they got there, Miecyzslaw went straight to the section about underwater creatures. Skimming the bookshelf, she finally found a book about merpeople. She searched through it and finally came up with something about the room. It said:

"Usually, the queen of the merpeople will have what is called The Room of the Living. The Room of the Living is a secret room that the queen may use whenever her people are in trouble to escape to the world below the cloud lakes they live in. The room will usually have a window on the bottom as though it were a floor and only merpeople can pass through it..."

It continued on and on. Apparently this Room of the Living was really important. Putting the book back on the shelf, Miecyzslaw went to go find the others. She found them gathered around a table each reading a different book. Randomly, she picked a book from the shelf and sat down next to Codie who was pouring over three different books which only contained runes.

"That a good book?" asked Miecyzslaw looking over his shoulder reading the page he was on. He looked up and smiled.

"I'm trying to figure out different combinations I can use with my water ball techniques," Codie explained. "Did you know that if I make the water ball spin fast enough I can make it into a water rope and use it as a whip?"

"Wow," said Lurik. "Alainia and I might be able to do that with a fire ball too, but we might want to check it out first, just in case." He nudged Alainia in the ribs and she whacked him in the stomach. When they were eight years old, Alainia had accedently set a tree on fire and Codie, Lurik, and Pier had to put it out together.

"Um," Alainia began. "Now that we're a group again, I thought maybe we should give ourselves a name."

"Yeah?" said Pier. "Like what?"

"I don't know," Alainia closed the book on different fighting stances. "I was hoping one of you guys would come up with an idea."

"How about this," said Codie. "The Royal Council. That way we sound more powerful than the Council of Races."

"Nah," Alainia waved her hand at him. "That sounds too...formal."

"I got one," piped in Miecyzslaw. "How about the Dragon Riders?"

"But not all of can ride our dragons yet," said Alainia. "And plus, I think there's a book called Dragon Riders."

"Here's a good one," said Pier. "The Five Guardians." The group nodded in agreement.

"Yeah," Alainia sat there thinking for a little bit. "I like that. It's not too formal and it doesn't sound like some story title."

"The Five Guardians it is," said Codie.

Chapter 15: Asking Questions

Miecyzslaw and Alainia ran down the tunnel as fast as they could. They were scared and upset. Why hadn't Jason and Bjorn told them? They turned the corner and then broke through the wall. They stopped in the corridor to catch their breath before they started running again.

"What did they mean 'the war's still far off'?" asked Alainia sliding down onto the floor clutching her side.

"I don't know," said Miecyzslaw in between gasps. "But I think we need to get back to the Dinner Hall before Jason and Bjorn come out of the council-" she cut herself off. Miecyzslaw's face filled with terror as both she and Alainia heard the gigantic door open. Turning her head, she saw a foot come out of the Council Room.

"Run!" yelled Alainia jumping to her feet. And they took off down the hall. Miecyzslaw thought she could hear foot steps behind her, or were they their foot steps? She didn't get the chance to look behind her to see if they were being followed. "We're dead! We're worse than dead! We're going to be expelled out of the school!" called Alainia over her shoulder.

"You think I don't know that?!" Miecyzslaw called. Skidding to a stop, she saw that there was another wall they could walk through. Now that she had stopped, she was positive someone was following them. "Alainia! Over here!" Alainia made a u-turn and ran back towards Miecyzslaw. She growled when she saw that Miecyzslaw was just standing in front of a wall.

"We're going to get caught!" yelled Alainia. "You're being-" Miecyzslaw stuck her hand through the wall. "Oh...well, what are we doing just standing here?" At the same time, the two girls stepped through the wall and waited until their pursuers passed. The foot steps went passed them and it sounded like they went down the hall.

"Okay," said Miecyzslaw after a minute or so. "I think it's safe to go back to the Dinner HaAHHH!" A hand grabbed the front of Miecyzslaw's shirt and pulled out into the hall.

"Missy!" and Alainia jumped out and onto the attackers back. Before long, she realized it was Jason. "Oh no."

"What were you guys thinking?!" yelled Jason. "You were not to listen in on the Council meeting! You're lucky that the Council didn't sense you in the tunnel behind the vent."

"But how did you know?" asked Alainia.

"Oh please," said Bjorn. "I could sense your thoughts when you were out in the hall. Alainia, you're the loudest thinker I have ever met. And as for you," he then turned to Miecyzslaw. "I would have expected better of you since you're older than Alainia. You knew the meeting was secret." Miecyzslaw stayed quiet. She didn't like it when Bjorn was mad at her. He was frightening when he was angry.

"I'm sorry," she said in a small voice.

"You better be sorry!" he yelled. "That was one of the most stupidest choices you have ever made since you were here, Miecyzslaw." Not wanting to hear anymore of what Bjorn had to say, Miecyzslaw started to walk away from them. She turned around and ran for her room.

"Missy!" called Alainia. She turned to Bjorn and made sure she was giving him the nastiest look she could. "Thanks, Bjorn. You've hurt my best friend." And Alainia went after Miecyzslaw. She started to run, hoping that she would be able to catch up with her before Miecyzslaw got to her room. "Missy! Wait for me!" Up ahead she heard a door open, but she didn't hear it close. Finally, Alainia was at Miecyzslaw's door and there was Miecyzslaw standing in the door way.

"I hate it when he's mad at me," she said as Alainia approached her.

"Don't worry about him," she said reassuringly. "He's an idiot sometimes. He should have known that you are sometimes sensitive and emotional."

"No," said Miecyzslaw. "He shouldn't have. I'm the one that killed Opal, the evil mermaid down in the lake that took over the throne from his mum. I didn't show fear at all, even though I felt it."

"So," said Alainia, walking it her room. "That doesn't mean you aren't sensitive and emotional. The group knows that I cry a lot, but that doesn't stop me from being who I am. I heard Bjorn once say that you were the bravest girl he has ever met...and sometimes not the smartest." Miecyzslaw slammed the door shut and locked it so that no one could get in. "Oh, come on! It's not like he's going to stop being your boyfriend." Miecyzslaw froze. "You are going out, right?" She looked up at Alainia. "You're not going out are you."

"No," said Miecyzslaw. "He never asked me to be his girlfriend or anything. And now that he said that I was stupid...I guess he never liked me after all."

"But why didn't you ask him out?" Alainia sat down on a meditation pillow and crossed her legs. Miecyzslaw walked over to a pile of cushions, took one, and place on the ground.

"I guess I was nervous to," she said. "I remember that I decided to wait until he asked me out, but he never did." Alainia sighed heavily. "What?! I didn't want to be rejected!"

"Yeah, well," Alainia reached up and stretched from where she was sitting. "Sometimes you gotta take a chance. That's what I did with Jason."

"But I'm not like you, Al. I won't just go up to a guy I like and kiss him."

"Hey, he started it the first time and I wanted to give him a little payback," the girls started to laugh. That was so typical of Alainia. "Anyways, I think you should go and stand up to Bjorn."

"Why?"

"Because he's thinks you're extremely mad at him now."

"Oh no. What did you say?"

"All I said was 'Thanks for hurting my best friend,' nothing more," there was then a knocking on the door. Who is it?!" Alainia called out.

"It's me, Bjorn," came his voice through the crack in the door.

"Go away!" Miecyzslaw called.

"I need to talk to you, Missy," he called out. "Please, can I talk to you?" Alainia got up and went to the door. She opened just a little and put her foot on the other side of the door so he couldn't open it. "Please," he said to her. "Just...just let me say two words to her."

"No," she said, holding the door firmly. "Go away. She doesn't want to talk to you." And she started to push the door shut.

"No! Wait!" He pushed against the door and Alainia had trouble keeping it closed. "Missy! I'm sorry!" And she moved away from the door quickly and Bjorn burst into the room and fell on the floor. Miecyzslaw jumped up and was ready to round him out the room if he did anything stupid.

"What do you want?" Miecyzslaw said menacingly. Bjorn looked up at her.

"I'm sorry," he said again. "I just got angry because you knew that it was forbidden for anyone but the queen and the trainers to listen to a Council meeting."

"And guess what," said Alainia. "The queen was listening in on the conversation." Bjorn gave her a questioning look. "Yes, I know that I'm supposed to be queen. Jason had told me only on my second day here. And I had given Miecyzslaw permission to listen in on the conversation."

"Oh," Bjorn got up. "Well, in that case, you're not in trouble."

"Didn't think so," said Alainia. She walked over to the door and opened it. "Now get out you goof." His head hanging Bjorn went out of the room. Slamming the door behind him, Alainia turned and looked at Miecyzslaw.

"What?" she said nervously. Alainia cocked an eyebrow at her. "Oh all right, I do forgive him but he still didn't need to yell at me."

"That's true," said Alainia. "But he didn't know that I knew that I was supposed to be queen. If I didn't know that we probably would be off this cloud in less than a second."

"I better get going," said Miecyzslaw checking her watch. "Or I'm going to be late for Weaponry class."

"Okay," Alainia opened the door once again and headed out the door.

"Alainia," she turned around and looked at Miecyzslaw. "You really need to learn to stop asking questions sometimes." Alainia smiled and she disappeared.

Chapter 14: "The Battle's soon to come..."

Miecyzslaw, Bjorn, Ice Moon, and Red Sun had stayed out by the lake for some time. As it turned out, Miecyzslaw could now breathe underwater without an echanted necklace. Since the red necklace had been torn off underwater and not taken off above water like it should have been, there were side effects. They went down to the merpeople's castle to see what had happened to Opal. She was asleep in a sponge bed, her face all puffy and glowing like the goop. Her eyes were closed, but even though they were closed, Miecyzslaw could tell that she wasn't able to see anymore.

"I did that?" Miecyzslaw had asked a little uneasily. All the merpeople now bowed to her as though she were their queen. But after a while, she suspected it was Bjorn's mother they were bowing down to. After about an hour, Bjorn and Miecyzslaw went back up to the surface of the water after saying good bye to his mum.

"Be safe, Missy," said the mermaid while she gave her a quick hug. She then turned to Bjorn and they embraced once more. Miecyzslaw had the strange feeling that that was going to be the family's last time together. They walked on the shore and up towards the castle. Miecyzslaw was shivering and Ice Moon was clinging to her neck for warmth. Red Moon sneezed every once and while. Bjorn on the other hand wasn't cold at all.

They entered the Great Entrance Corridor and headed for the Dinner Hall. Despite how cold she was, Miecyzslaw was even more hungry. There, they ran into Alainia, Jason, Codie, and Lurik.

"What the heck were you guys doing?" asked Alainia looking at Miecyzslaw's wet hair and clothes. "Were you teaching Bjorn how to play Water Ball or something?"

"Ha ha, you're hilarious," Miecyzslaw rolled her eyes. "Actually, we went down to the bottom of the lake and saw merpeople." Jason saw that she was shivering and whispered something to Alainia's dragon, Snow Fire. Snow Fire nodded and crawled off of Alainia's shoulder and onto Miecyzslaw's. Snow Fire put a claw on Miecyzslaw and a claw on Ice Moon and closed her eyes. The tiny dragon's claws began to glow red, and before they knew it, Miecyzslaw and Ice Moon were as dry as before they went into the lake.

Snow Fire then moved over to Red Sun and Bjorn and did the same thing. Before long they were in the Dinner Hall nice and warm and eating dinner.

"So how was the weaponry lesson today?" Bjorn asked Codie and Lurik.

"Oh it was okay," said Codie through a mouthful of mashed potatoes. "We've just been working on archery again."

"Ugh, it's not that hard once you get the hang of it," said Alainia.

"Easy for you to say," said Lurik. "You got a bull's eye on the first day of archery and Madam Yahn favors you the most because you're pretty much the only girl who gets everything perfect on the first try." Alainia rolled her eyes and took a bite of chicken.

"It's not my fault I'm good at using weapons," she said after she finished eating her chicken.

"And it isn't my fault that I can now breathe underwater," muttered Miecyzslaw under her breath. Bjorn smiled. Jason saw this and narrowed his eyes at Bjorn.

"What?" he whispered. Jason gestured his head towards the Dinner Hall entrance, indicating that they needed to talk in private. They got up and started  to head over to the door.

"Wait!" cried Alainia running up to Jason. "Where are you two going?"

"We'll be right back," said Bjorn to her, though the sentence was really directed to Miecyzslaw. "We have to go discuss something with the council." And the two of them walked off. Alainia sat back down and looked at Miecyzslaw. They both knew that the Council didn't just call in people to discuss something not important. Whatever it was, it was something juicy and it was something that the two girls could not resist listening in on.

Just as they were about to get up, they heard a scream. Miecyzslaw quickly looked over to wear it came from and saw Zoe crying and Pier standing in front of her. She was talking so loudly and shrilly that everyone in the Hall looked over at them to see what was going on.

"What do you mean...I don't understand...why?!" Zoe cried at Pier. Zoe's posse was just sitting there at their table looking horrified at how Zoe was acting.

"I don't like you," Pier said calmly. "I like someone else, and even though she doesn't like me back I'm going to take a chance. The only reason I went out with you was to make the girl I really like jealous and it doesn't seem to be working." And with that, he walked away. Pier then came over to the table that Miecyzslaw, Alainia, Lurik, and Codie were sitting at. "Hi guys," he said smiling.

"Hey," said Codie standing up. "Welcome back, bud." Nothing could have prepared them for what happened next. Everyone in the Hall started to cheer! The reunited group of friends started laugh. Gathering up their trays, Alainia and Miecyzslaw sneaked away. They ran out of the Hall and turned the corner.

"What do you think the Council needs Bjorn and Jason for?" Alainia asked. Miecyzslaw shrugged. She really had no clue, and usually she knew about things like this. "I hope everything's okay."

"Yeah," said Miecyzslaw. "Me too." And they zipped down the hall and soon came to the big steel door that had runes above it, which when translated says:

"Anyone who betrays the Council of Races shall

suffer the consequences of the dragons..."

And after that were some runes that had faded away over time. Alainia walked over and studied the door really closely. After about a minute or so, she let out a growl.

"What is it?" asked Miecyzslaw.

"They locked the door!" Alainia yelled. If the door was locked, it meant that no one could hear inside the room and no one in there could here out. "Ugh! How the heck do they see these things coming?" Miecyzslaw knew perfectly well how they knew. Green Fire had for sight...but Miecyzslaw bet that the green and black dragon didn't for see that there was another way to listen in.

"Follow me," said Miecyzslaw. And she took down the hall way and stopped in front of the wall. Miecyzslaw studied it carefully, but as far as Alainia could tell, it was pretty darn solid. Miecyzslaw then turned to Alainia and smiled. "Ever consider walking through walls?" Before Alainia could answer however, Miecyzslaw had stepped forward and walked straight through the wall. As Miecyzslaw walked through, there was nothing but darkness. The very next moment, she saw a long tunnel that she had to stoop down in order to walk down it. Turning around, she saw another solid wall, but no Alainia. Rolling her eyes, Miecyzslaw stuck her head through the wall and looked at Alainia.

"You coming or what?" Alainia's mouth was hanging open in horror as she saw only Miecyzslaw's head and shoulders hanging on the wall. Shaking her head, Alainia walked in to the wall found herself on the other side of it with Miecyzslaw. She beckoned Alainia to follow her and put her finger to her lips indicating that she needed to be quiet. The two girls walked down the dirt tunnel and before long came to another tunnel paved with stone bricks. They turned down the tunnel and saw that there was a light up ahead.

That's where we'll listen in on the Council? Miecyzslaw heard Alainia's voice ask in her head.

It's not safe to think here, Miecyzslaw thought back to her. Bjorn, Jason, and who knows who else will be able to sense us.

Then how come you're thinking?! Came Alainia's voice shrilly. Miecyzslaw swung around and gave her a piercing look with her green eyes that made Alainia quiet instantly. She turned around and continued walking with Alainia behind her. They soon came up to the end of the tunnel and saw that there was a vent into the Council Room. They could hear voices inside. One of them was shouting and Miecyzslaw recognized it as Jason's voice.

"But you can't expect them to go to battle in three weeks," he cried, a hint of fear in his voice. "Alainia still needs to master her basics in herbs so she'll know how to heal herself when she's injured."

"And Miecyzslaw still needs to master weaponry," cut in Bjorn. Miecyzslaw looked in and saw that Bjorn and Jason were standing next to each other in a large room. In front of them was a table that had four people seated at it. In the middle of the table was someone that Miecyzslaw recognized. It was Gondora. He was sitting there calmly looking at Bjorn and Jason. On the right side of Gondora was another man, but this man wasn't just a man. He had deep, blue wings on his back that fluttered every once in a while. There was only one kind of name for this kind of man...he was a fairy. Like his wings, his hair was a dark blue and went down to his shoulders and big blue eyes.

Next to the fairy was a woman. This woman had beautiful long, white hair that went down to her waist. Her eyes were crimson red and she had many strong facial features. Her lips were thin and her nose was small. Her skin was cream colored and looked extremely soft. But the one thing that stood out on this woman were her ears. Her ears were pointed and had many jewels on them. Miecyzslaw guessed she was a she-elf.

On the other side of Gondora was another woman. This woman however looked a lot like Jason. She had curly red hair that went down her back. Her eyes were big and green and glowed like cat eyes. And Miecyzslaw bet that if she stood up, she would probably be at least six feet tall.

"And what's more," said Red Sun, who was on Bjorn's shoulder. "Is that the two girls haven't even been exposed to the powers they have when they and their dragon's minds become one. Miecyzslaw has many abilities. One of them is that she is able to speak to animals. Alainia has the ability to wield any weapon that's given to her." Miecyzslaw looked at Alainia and saw that her mouth had dropped open. She then turned back to the vent and continued to listen.

"They must be ready now," said the she-elf. "Satasan has had time to build up an army because his spirit has lived on. He's been living in secret since the great Alexandria's death. His army is much greater than the army we have and they will defeat us if Alainia and Miecyzslaw are not ready."

"And I have a feeling that their friends Codie, Lurik, and Pier might be of some help to them," said the woman that looked like Jason. "If they work together, they might be able to defeat Satasan's army before he gets here."

"But that means we have to train Codie, Lurik, and Pier as well," said Bjorn looking troubled.

"Don't worry," said Gondora. "Their trainers know about this and they have agreed to train them in the advanced levels of each subject. The five of them will leave for battle in two weeks and will camp out on a stationary cloud and wait for the army who will probably be riding on demons."

"I'm sorry boys," said the she-elf. "The war might be far away, but the Battle's soon to come."

Chapter 13: Sweet Revenge

"My next lesson?" Miecyzslaw was confused. "Don't we have to finish this lesson first?" Bjorn laughed, as did Red Sun.

"Well, that was our lesson," he explained. "I was supposed to show you how the merpeople lived and how they gathered their food and stuff like that. But I bet you anything that Opal is making sure that all the merpeople bow down to here for revenge of kicking her out of the royal council."

"But what did she do to get kicked out of the council?" asked Miecyzslaw.

"She killed a child," said Red Sun. "She killed a little merchild before it even had it's tail." She stared at the dragon with a confused look on her face. Red Sun sighed. Was Miecyzslaw really this clueless all the time? "When merchildren are born, they don't get their tails until they're at least four years old. That's why most of the merpeople don't even bother with using their tails because they can just go anywhere walking on the bottom of the lake...er...ocean is more like it." He added looking around the coral reef.

"Anyways," said Bjorn. "We're going to get some revenge on Opal ourselves. If we don't do anything, the world below us could have a major drought. I think that you with your healing abilities and with Ice Moon's ability to freeze water and breathe ice might give us an advantage." Ice Moon puffed out his chest with pride. Miecyzslaw thought he looked a little ridiculous when he was full of pride.

"Okay," she said after a while. "I do it...but what are we going to do exactly?" At this, Bjorn smiled wickedly.

The four of them swam towards the castle as close to the reef as possible. Miecyzslaw was a bit nervous. What if the plan didn't work? What if Opal could sense them coming? It was a chance that they would have to take. Bjorn was out in front, followed by Red Sun, Ice Moon, and Miecyzslaw. When they got close to the gate, Miecyzslaw could see the green goop on the rock that Bjorn told her not to touch. Now she was putting on gloves and was going to carry it up to the castle. Bjorn had said that he would do it, but she decided to do it instead. He said to make sure that it didn't touch her skin or she would get a terrible sickness that could not be cured.

"Be careful," whispered Ice Moon when they reached the entrance. Miecyzslaw swam as quietly as she could. She darted behind a rock when one of the guards turned their head towards her. The guard must have thought it was just his imagination for he returned marching majestically around the gate. Miecyzslaw let out a sigh of relief. She swam over the wall that surrounded the castle and over the other side. Looking behind her, she realized that she was on her own from then on. Checking to make sure that the gloves were on securely, she swam over to the rock with the glowing goop. Careful not to alert the guards, she unstuck the goop and swam as fast as she could towards the castle.

"Who goes there?!" cried one of the guards who must have heard Miecyzslaw swimming frantically. She looked over her shoulder and shrieked. "Stop in the name of the Queen!" Miecyzslaw lowered her feet to the ground and began to run with the glowing goop in her arms. She was trying to remember the plan, but then she realized she wasn't really listening Bjorn when he explained it.

"Bjorn!" Miecyzslaw cried frantically. "Bjorn, help!" Just then, their was a terrible shriek coming from in front of her. She screamed at what she saw. Then...darkness...

"Missy!" came a voice. "Missy! Are you okay? Missy, please wake up!" Miecyzslaw's eyes slowly began to open. She could feel cold wind blowing on her wet skin. Above her was a boy with wet, black hair staring at her with a worried look on his face. "Oh, thank heaven you're alive." At that instant, Miecyzslaw got a flash back at what happened. A picture of Queen Opal's face, only it didn't really look like Opal's face. The face was covered in slimey scales and her eyes were black. The blackness of those eyes seemed to consume Miecyzslaw. Opal's hand were stretched out for her and her hands were like poiseness claws. Had the plan worked? Had she thrown the goop on Opal in time? Or had she failed?

"Did the plan work?" Miecyzslaw asked sitting up a bit too fast, making her feel dizy. "What happened to me?"

"Opal tore off the necklace," explained Ice Moon next to her. "You fought a good fight, but then you ran out of air and passed out." She stared at the little blue dragon horrified. She looked at Bjorn and was startled to find that tears stained his eyes.

"I'm so sorry, Bjorn," Miecyzslaw started frantically. "I didn't mean to mess up the plan. I couldn't remember the plan while I was running for my life."

"No it's not that," said Bjorn. "I'm amazed that you actually made the plan work."

"Huh?"

"When you were fighting for your life," started Red Sun. "You threw the glowing goop right at her face, making it get into her eyes. I laughed at that. She screamed her head off after you passed out. Her tail was flipping all over the place and she was literally shriveling up." Bjorn wiped his eyes quickly hoping that Miecyzslaw wouldn't notice, but she did. Carefully, Miecyzslaw got up and went over to Bjorn and looked up at him.

"What?" he said unsurely. And before Miecyzslaw could stop herself, she hugged him. Not the kind of hug that friends give friends, but a loving hug that would say everything of how they felt about each other. It wasn't long before they were embracing each other in a hug that Red Sun and Ice Moon suspected might not end for a while.

"Um...excuse me, Sir Bjorn," came a gurgly voice. There in the water was a mermaid's head. She had jet black hair that floated on top of the water. She actually looked a lot like Bjorn himself. Bjorn looked over at the mermaid and gasped.

"Mum!" he cried running out to the mermaid in the water. "I can't believe you're okay." The mother and son embraced each other and Bjorn's mum kissed him on the head.

"That was the most amazing thing I've seen," said the mermaid turning to Miecyzslaw. "I've never known anyone to fight Opal like that. You got the glowing goop all over her face and she should be dead in about three days." Bjorn ran out of the water and back up to Miecyzslaw.

"Let me say something," said Ice Moon, who had crawled up onto Miecyzslaw's shoulder. "That was some sweet revenge." And the group laughed. This was definately something they were never going to forget.

Chapter 12: The Next Lesson

After the bell rang for the next class period, Alainia looked pretty upset to Miecyzslaw...and Miecyzslaw couldn't blame her. She just couldn't picture Alainia fighting the evil ruler of the Masked Warriors, let alone being the ruler of all the galaxies. While everyone else left, Miecyzslaw stayed under the oak tree waiting for Bjorn and Ice Moon to get there. Maybe she would go for a little swim and visit the merpeople. making sure no one was looking, Miecyzslaw took offher socks, shoes, and sweatshirt and waded in the lake. Checking to see whether anyone was there, she went in deeper. Miecyzslaw then gathered up as much breath as she could and dove into the ice, cold water.

She looked around and couldn't believe what she saw. Below her, there was a moon stone palace with gigantic fish swimming around it...or those could be the merpeople. To her left was a reef that went under the Guardian castle that had all kinds of colors that could make her dizy. To her right was something she definately did not expect. Right in front of Miecyzslaw's face was a great big rock. She accedently swallowed a bunch of water in surprise. Swimming as fast as she could, she reached the surface and took big gulps of breath.

"Have a nice swim?" came a deep voice. Miecyzslaw turned her head and saw Bjorn standing there with Red Sun and Ice Moon on his shoulders.

"Um...yes," she said nervously. "I saw where the merpeople live." she added quickly.

"Well," said Bjorn taking off his shirt, socks, and shoes and wading in the lake. "That's what we were going to do. We were actually going to go visit them today." Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a red necklace and handed it to her. "This will allow you to breath under water."

"Is that why you always where that shark necklace?" Miecyzslaw asked. Without realizing that he had started messing with the shark tooth that hung around his neck on a silver chain, Bjorn went under the water.

"You see," he said, after shooting out to Miecyzslaw and handing her the necklace. "My mother was a merperson and my father was a Guardian. They fell in love and had me. I can breath both under water and above water."

"Interesting," she said, taking the necklace from his hand. Bjorn smiled and dove down into the the depths of the lake. After Miecyzslaw got the necklace on, she followed after him. Back at home, Miecyzslaw would always go to the pool with Alainia and Codie. Alainia was the fastest swimmer on top of water and Codie was pretty much always in second. Miecyzslaw, on the other hand, was never fast on top of the water, but was extremely fast under water.

When she caught up to Bjorn, she realized that she really could breathe! She gasped as a huge fish swam by in front of her face. Bjorn must have heard her, for he turned around and headed towards her.

"You okay?" he asked, his jet black hair floating everywhere. Miecyzslaw nodded, her black and red hair swirling around. "You can talk under water you know."

"Really?" Miecyzslaw asked. Bjorn started to laugh and so did Miecyzslaw. They started to swim towards the merpeople's castle once again. Fish and many other kinds of sea creatures were swimming around them. They soon came to the merpeople's castle and landed on a outcropping close to the gates of the castle. Merpeople were not what Miecyzslaw expected. Some of them had legs like her and Bjorn. And then there were some them had fish tails. "Bjorn, why do those merpeople have legs and the others have fish tails?"

"Oh those aren't fish tails," said Bjorn. "Those are dolphin tails. They're not half fish like everyone thinks, they're half dolphin."

"But how come not all of them have tails?" Miecyzslaw asked again, taking his hand. Bjorn started to walk towards the castle, pulling her along with him. It was amazing at how freely they could move underwater.

"Merpeople can change into humans anytime they want, but they can't walk on the surface because they can't breathe air like us. If you feel your neck, you'll find that you now have gills." Miecyzslaw felt her neck and gasped. Her neck felt all strange. It had different layers of skin overlapping each other, opening and closing. They were getting closer to the great pearl doors of the castle. "Oh and one more thing, make sure you don't touch that green stuff over there." He pointed to a patch of green on a rock that almost touched Miecyzyslaw. It looked all slimy and glowed creepily. She scooted closer to Bjorn, avoiding it.

"Gross," Miecyzslaw said. Bjorn laughed and stopped walking and started to swim. She did the same thing and followed him through big pearl doors. "Bjorn, this is the most amazing thing I have ever done! It feels like I'm flying." Bjorn didn't answer, he seemed to be distracted by something in the room they had just entered. Everything around them was made out of pearl and had jewels put into them. In the middle of the room was a throne that was at least seven feet high. Upon it sat a woman with a beautiful crimson tail and a golden crown sitting on top of her flowing, red hair. Her eyes were black and cold and when she smiled, it sent shivers up your spine. Bjorn swam up to her.

"Where's my mum?!" he demanded. The mermaid chuckled maliciously.

"Your mother has of little interest to me," she said.

"Where is she?" he said. "She's supposed to be on the throne, not you!" Miecyzslaw looked at Bjorn uncertainly.

"What's wrong?" she asked him.

"This mermaid was thrown off the royal council because she tried to kill a child," said Bjorn turning to her. "There's no way she should be up there." Once again, Bjorn looked at the mermaid. "What did you do with my mother?" The mermaid laughed again, but this time, it sounded a bit different. Her voice started to turn deeper and it echoed through out the throne room.

"I told you your mother was of little interest to me," the mermaid said. "And don't you demand things from me, Queen Opal!" she cried shrilly. Miecyzslaw walked up to the mermaid...she didn't know why, but the mermaid looked familiar. "What?" she asked.

"I...uh...nevermind," and Miecyzslaw moved back towards Bjorn. He gave her an odd look, but she didn't even glance at him. Opal then turned to the guard next to her.

"Please escort these two children out of the palace and back up to the surface," Bjorn without saying anything else turned and headed out the door. Realizing what Bjorn was doing, Miecyzslaw hurried after him. After catching up with him, he took her hand.

Call Ice Moon and I'll call Red Fire, she heard a voice say. She turned to Bjorn.

"Did you say something?"

Don't talk! he said looking at her...only his lips weren't moving. I'm using telepathy. You can use it too. Just talk to Ice Moon through your mind. Tell her to come here.

But she can't breathe underwater, she thought back to him.

Dragons can breathe anywhere. Just call him down here. Miecyzslaw did as she was told. She could sense that Bjorn was trying to come up with a plan while the guards were ushering them down the hall and out the big pearl doors.

"You will swim up to the surface of the water and go back to the Guardian castle," said one of the merman guards. He had a deep voice and brown hair that was down to his waist.

"Yes, sir," said Bjorn, and he started to swim upward. Miecyzslaw followed after him. When they got to the top of the reef, Bjorn made a sudden right turn. He stopped right over a particularly hard looking piece of pink coral. "Okay, here's your first lesson. Merpeople are extremely easy to trick." Just as he said this, they saw Ice Moon and Red Sun swimming towards them

"Okay," said Ice Moon. "So what's going on? Missy's message came to me in chopped up words."

"We're about to get that evil witch off the throne," said Bjorn. He then turned to Miecyzslaw and smiled a toothy smile. "You're about to learn your next lesson."

Chapter 11: Bad News

When Alainia got to Jason's room, she knocked on the door. There was no answer. All she could here was music playing inside. She knocked again...still no answer. Snow Fire crawled down Alainia's arm slowly until she was next to the knob of the door. Carefully blowing, she was able to freeze the door knob. She then crawled back up onto Alainia's shoulder and sat there.

"You can open it now," said Snow Fire proudly. Alainia looked at her sending a message saying that she was such a show off. Alainia then turned back to the door and opened the door slowly. She peeked inside and saw that there was no one in there, but that the music was coming from the bedroom area.

"Jason?" she called out. "Jason? Are you there?" The music stopped and Alainia and Snow Fire could hear a bunch of locks being unlocked. After about three minutes, Jason came out of the room with his dragon on his shoulder. His face turned red when he saw who had been calling his name.

"Hey," Jason said nervously. "Why aren't you in weaponry class? And why do you have the bow and arrows still with you?"

"I made a perfect shot, so the teacher let me have the day off," said Alainia cheerfully. "I came down here so we could hang out or something." Jason looked shocked.

"You made a perfect shot?" he asked curiously. "How so?" Alainia rolled her eyes. This was so typical. Jason didn't believe her!

"If you come with me outside I'll show you," and Alainia exited out of the room leaving Jason standing there dumb founded. Jason followed after her wondering what she could possibly mean.

They had gone outside and come back in with smiles on their faces, although Jason's was as red as his hair. Snow Fire was laughing up a storm on Alainia's shoulder. Something had happened which I shall not reveal. They walked down the hallway and towards the Dinner Hall where they met up with Meicyzslaw, Codie, and Lurik. Pier was there too, but he was holding hands with Zoe and she had steered him away from the group towards the posse's usual table. Just before their own group entered the hall however, a man, no older than eighteen, came running up to Miecyzslaw.

"Missy," he said calling her by her nickname. "Don't forget we're going to have our next class by the lake today."

"I would never, Bjorn," Miecyzslaw smiled. Bjorn was quite tall and had jet black hair. His eyes were a brownish reddish and glinted in the light. He was square jawed and was rather muscular. Bjorn smiled back at Miecyzslaw. "Do you want me to bring Ice Moon for his training with Red Sun?" she asked him. He nodded.

"He's going to start firebreathing today," said a red dragon standing next to Bjorn. The red dragon was up to Bjorn's thigh and had hugest wings Alainia had ever seen. Ice Moon nodded. Bjorn then left with a bow towards Alainia, making her friends give her an odd look.

"What was that about?" asked Lurik, rushing up to keep up with her and Jason. Codie then came up next to Alainia and nudged her in the ribs.

"It's nothing," said Alainia, rubbing her ribs. Codie raised his eyebrows at her. "It's nothing!" Alainia said again.

"Uh huh," said Codie disbelievingly. "If you say so." Alainia growled. She sat down at a table, making sure it was far away from Pier and Zoe. Miecyzslaw sat on one side of her and Jason sat on the other. Under the table, Jason and Alainia closed their hands together. Snow Fire and Ice Moon crawled down from on top of Miecyzslaw and Alainia's shoulders and went off to find some other dragons to talk to.

"I wonder what's for lunch today," wondered Lurik aloud, sitting across from Alainia and Codie sitting across from Jason. Lurik soon got his answer, for the waiters and waitresses came out with the food on trays. A waiter came over to the table where they were sitting and put the food on the table. Today was turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, and some Diet Coke to drink. "Excellent." said Lurik.

After lunch was free time, which was when the students could do whatever they wanted for two hours The five of them went out by the lake under the big oak tree where Alainia was sitting earlier that day. The remains of Snow Fire's egg was still there.

"Why hello again, Jason," said the oak tree. "Hello again to you too, your Highness." The oak tree directed to Alainia. Lurik looked at Alainia suspiciously. Alainia looked a little nervous. Maybe she really was the next ruler.

"Alainia," said Codie before Lurik could say anything. "What does the tree mean 'your Highness'?" Alainia didn't day anything. "Alainia?" She looked at Codie with an odd expression on her face that he couldn't decipher.

"Codie," she said after a while. "I wish I could tell you, but I'm not even supposed to know. Otherwise I would tell you." Miecyzslaw stood up from where she was sitting.

"I already know, Al," she said queitly. "I know everything about your mother being the ruler over all the galexies and that you're her next heir. And I also know that you'll be a great leader."

"Huh?" said Codie and Lurik at the same time. Jason made a noise that might have suggested that he could have thrown up. Alainia walked over to him and sat down. Jason looked at her and smiled a weak smile.

"Alainia and Codie's mum was the most famous Guardian and the reason was because she was ruler. My mum was her right hand man...er...woman," said Jason. "My mum's dragon has forsight and her dragon was trying to figure out who the next heir was, and it was Alainia's face she saw. My mum recognized her as Alainia Montez and knew that she would probably have the same fate as her mother." Alainia looked at him. She had never heard Jason speak freely about something like this before, it was strange to listen to him talk about her like this. She rested her head on his shoulder.

"So wait," said Codie after recovering from his shock. "My sister's going to die the same way as our mum?" Jason nodded. "But it doesn't have to happen in the battle that's coming up, does it?"

"Well, no," said Jason slowly. "But it very well could. She's going to have to battle Satasan both in her heart and her physical being. Alainia's actually supposed to take the thrown in one month."

"One month?!" Alainia lifted her head from Jason's shoulder quickly. "But don't I have to master school first?" Jason nodded again. "But that's impossible! Then I have to study twenty four seven!"

"Pretty much, yeah," he said. Alainia growled and flopped down onto her back staring up at the blue school. "Oh, and I'm destined to die..." Jason added. Alainia looked up.

"What are you talking about?" Miecyzslaw asked him. "How can you be destined to die?"

"Well," began Jason. "Since I'm Alainia's protector and trainer, I'm going to die in the battle that's going to come in about three months trying to protect her."

"What? No!" cried Alainia. "You can't die. I love you, Jason, and I don't want to lose you." Tears stained her eyes. Jason smiled and took her hands in his own. Codie couldn't remember the last time Alainia was in love with a boy this much, and yet no matter how many times he tried to get the thought out of his head, he couldn't help but think that Alainia becoming ruler was bad news.

Chapter 10: Snow Fire's Hatching

Days went by and Alainia and Snow Fire became really good friends. Then, on the third day of being together, Alainia was listening to a lecture being given by Jason and Snow Fire's egg was in her lap. There were sitting outside by the lake because they were learning about creatures of the water. Alainia was sitting crosslegged in the grass under an oak tree with books all around her. Jason was pacing in front of her talking about the merpeople that lived in the waters of the sky.

"...even though the humans down below us think that merpeople live in the oceans and lakes of the world, they're wrong. Merpeople live up here in the lakes of the cloud. It is also their job to make sure that all of earth's creatures get rain."

"So it's because of them it rains?" asked Alainia. Just as Jason was about to answer, however, they heard a great cracking sound. Alainia looked down and light spilled out of a crack in the egg. Snow Fire was hatching! She picked up the egg and placed it on the ground in front of her. The egg rocked back and forth viliontly. Another crack appeared and even more light spilled out. Then another and another, until, finally, the egg burst open and a dragon no more than one foot long with red and white scales and leathery wings plopped out. All over the dragon was a sticky substance that made Alainia want to throw up.

"Ugh," said Snow Fire. "Living in there wasn't exactly the royal treatment, let me tell ya." Alainia started to laugh.

"Welcome to the world, Snow Fire," said Jason. "Let's get you cleaned up." He placed his hand on the ground and Snow Fire clambered into it. Walking over to the lake, he actually asked something to the thin air. "Can I have something to dry this dragon off with?" he called out. And to Alainia's astonishment, the oak tree's leaves began to stick together and soon there was a green towel for Jason and, what's more, the oak tree actually leaned over to Jason and handed it to him. "Thank you," he said. Alainia's jaw dropped open and she turned to look at the tree.

"It's not polite to stare at us tree's like that," said a woman's voice. And then the tree stood perfectly still. Alainia shook her head and got up off the grass and walked over to Jason, her black hair whipping around in the wind. Crouching next to him to watch him wash Snow Fire, Alainia looked back at the tree a little nervously.

"Do they always do what you ask them to do?" she asked uncertainly. Jason laughed and gave her a quick hug, then turned back to washing Snow Fire. She was having the time of her life splashing in the shallows of the lake. Her first bath and her first ten minutes in the world without that wretched egg on her back every second of the day. Then, ending the fun Snow Fire was having, Jason took her out of the water and dried her off with the towel made by the oak tree.

After Snow Fire was dry, she hopped over to Alainia and climbed up her leg all the way to her shoulder. Alainia couldn't believe how small Snow Fire was. She always pictured baby dragons up to her knee, not only tall enough to where the top of her head only reached Alainia's shin. Almost right away, Snow Fire fell asleep on Alainia's shoulder. Jason smiled. No matter how many times he told himself that Alainia was his student and she would never go out with her teacher, he couldn't stop himself gazing at Alainia's face and eyes. Perhaps his favorite part about her was possibly her hair. Alainia's hair fell into to little black ringlets at the end and would shine in the sun.

"I think mabe that's enough training for today. I suggest that you go get ready for your weaponry lessons," Alainia nodded and went over to pick up her books. "No, it's okay. I'll get them." And Jason rushed over and took the books out of her arms, waking up Snow Fire. Alainia smiled up at him and kissed him on the cheek and he stood there frozen to the spot. Snow Fire coughed a bit..

"Thanks. I'll see you at lunch, okay?" and she rushed off leaving Jason standing there with a big smile on his face. As soon as there were out of ear shot, Snow Fire started to laugh.

"That was interesting," she teased. "Did you see the look on his face? I swear he was about to faint." Alainia laughed as well. "I guess lover boy's in love."

"C'mon, Snow Fire," said Alainia. "Cut him some slack. He's having enough trouble as it is. Last night when you were asleep, I followed him to the council room and I kind of eavesdropped on the conversation. Apparently Satasan's spirit is still out there and that we have to defeat them. Did you know that my mum's dragon was also a two colored dragon? Blue and red, water and fire. And Jason has to get me to the level I should be at in three months, for that's when the dragon wih forsight predicted when the Masked Warriors would attack the Guardian Academy." They then arrived at the door to the castle and walked inside. Alainia then checked her watch. "Uh oh. I'm gonna be late for class," she turned her head to Snow Fire. "You might want to hold on 'cause I'm gonna have to run." And with that she shot down the hall.

The bell was going to ring really soon and she wouldn't be able to get through the crowd of other Guardians and their dragons. She turned down a corridor with Snow Fire on her shoulder holding on for dear life. Alaina then skidded to a stop in front of the weapon hold where they learned how to handle different kinds of weapons such as bows and arrows, swords, and many different kinds that she didn't know what they were called. It was the only class she had with her friends Pier, Codie, Miecyzslaw, and Lurik. Alainia walked in and saw that Miecyzslaw was already in there talking to her dragon, Ice Moon. Ice Moon was a deep blue dragon that had white feathered wings like an angel's.

"Hey, Missy!" Alainia called across the room. She rushed over to her and Miecyzslaw got up and they embraced to each other for a minute and then they sat down at the table.

"I was watching you and Jason out by the lake and saw Snow Fire hatch," she said. "No light came out of Ice Moon's egg when he hatched yesterday." Ice Moon came over and climbed onto Miecyzslaw shoulder.

"I'm not a two elemented dragon like Snow Fire is," he said. "And plus, Snow Fire represents a new element. I only represent water. She can do anything she wants with water just like I can, but she can do something I can't do: breathe ice. I can only freeze water with my mind while she can breathe both fire and ice on anything she wants." Snow Fire stuck out her little chest in pride. Alainia patted her on the head.

"Well," said Miecyzslaw. "I still think you're amazing Ice Moon." and she kissed him on top of the head. "Oh, and when did you plan on telling me that you kissed Jason?" Alainia smiled shyly. "Mmhmm...that's what I thought. You were hoping that I wouldn't notice, but you forgot that I'm a healer mage and I know everything." The two girls and the dragons started to laugh just as the bell rang. A few seconds later, Lurik, Codie, and Pier came into the room with their own dragons on their shoulders. They all came over and sat at the table with Alainia and Miecyzslaw, all except for Pier who went and sat by a group of girls that Alainia recognized as Zoe's posse.

"Hey, Codie," whispered Alainia as the teacher walked in. "Why is Pier sitting with Zoe's posse?" Codie looked over at Pier.

"He's going out with Zoe," he whispered back. "She asked him out yesterday and he said yes becaue he didn't think you liked him any more."

"Not if he's hanging out with Zoe," Alainia said crossing her arms and leaning back in her chair. Codie rolled his eyes and turned around to watch the archery demonstration the teacher was giving. After the demonstration, the teacher took them into the next room that had targets and many different rows made for practicing archery. She told every one to choose a target to practice on. Lurik chose one on one side of Alainia and Codie took the one on the other side of her. They got the protective golves on so their hands would get blisters and the arm protector so that the string that was used on the bow wouldn't tear off the skin on their arm.

Alainia took the bow and knocked an arrow. She took careul aim at the bull's eye let the arrow fly. It hit the target head on and was inches away from the bull's eye. Codie stared at Alainia in disbelief. Closing his mouth he lauhed.

"What's so funny?" Snow Fire shot fiercly at Codie.

"I had an idea but I bet she couldn't do it," he said.

"Do what?" asked Alainia and Lurik at the same time.

"Hit the arrow with another arrow in the middle," Codie said laughing. Alainia smiled.

"You wanna bet?" and Alainia knocked another arrow and let it flew. Everyone heard the sound of splitting wood and turned. There on Alainia's target was an arrow that had split the first arrow in half. Alainia turned to Codie whose mouth had dropped open. "You were saying?" Lurik started to laugh. The teacher walked over to where Alainia and walked down towards the target. She took out the second arrow, but the first arrow was stuck to the second.

"Alainia," said the teacher. "You have the day off since you clearly already know how to shoot an arrow." Alaina smiled to her self and put the bow back where it was before. "No, you keep the bow and arrows. That's why everyone has their own target to practice on. You get to keep them."

"Cool," and Alainia packed up the bow and arrows and headed out the door with the quiver of arrows slinged on one shoulder, Snow Fire on the other, and the bow in her hand. As soon as she was in the corridor, she ran for Jason's room. She couldn't wait to see him again.

Chapter 9: "It's too much pressure..."

Alainia and Jason walked out of the egg room and headed down the hall with her first dragon. Alainia didn't really feel like talking. She was scared...scared that she was going to be a leader, something she knew she wouldn't be able to do.

"I guess I should show you to your room," said Jason. They were quiet for quite a long time, Alainia craddling the dragon egg in her arms. "Are you okay?" Jason asked uncertainly.

"Huh?" Alainia looked up at him. "Oh...yeah. I'm fine." Alainia wondered if she should tell him what's on her mind. Finally, she plucked up the courage to ask him. "Jason? What's so amazing about my egg that makes you think we're destined to do great things?" Jason stopped dead in the hall way.

"Well," Jason began after a while. "Dragons are usually one color and named after elements. Such as earth, fire, water, air, light, shadow, ect....then there are the two colored dragons. Two colored dragons are made up of two elements. There are only three of those kind of dragons each century. Gondora's dragon is one of them. His dragon is made up of the elements darkness and flame...that's why she's called Green Fire. By what the color is of your egg, the red stands for fire and the white..." He took the egg from Alainia and examined it carefully. "...I have no idea what element that is, so I think your dragon might be a new element combined with the fire element." Alainia and Jason didn't talk again all the way up to her room. Her room was in a tall tower coverd with ivy.

When she entered through the big wooden door, she gasped. It was warm in her room, just like in the Eggoroium, as she had learned to call it. The walls were made out of a white stone that looked as though it were marble, but much stronger. There were blue drapings on the windows and there was a balcony. Alainia walked out onto the balcony and saw a beautiful view. All around there were wisps of cloud, but every once in a while, they would see the sky. Down below was grass, trees, and, a little bit to the left, a lake. Wow, Alainia thought.

"In about two minutes everybody's gonna come outside riding on their dragons," said Jason, joining her on the balcony. "Unless the dragons are too small, then the Guardians in training will come out with the dragon resting on their sholder or walking beside them." Alainia absent mindedly craddled the egg and tried to keep it warm. While they had been walking up to her room, Jason told her that she needed to keep the egg with her at all times and that it had to be kept warm constantly. Alainia was thinking about the events that had happened the previous night, it was all like a dream...including this entire place.

"Jason?" Alainia said staring out at the field, which was now being filled by teens and their dragons. "Did you know my parents at all?" She looked up at him and noticed that he was at a loss for words.

"I...I did know them," said Jason slowly. "But I was eleven so I don't remember a whole lot...but I do remember that they were good friends with my parents. Why don't you ask one of them?"

"Your parents are here?" she was startled. "I thought that only kids came here."

"No," Jason laughed. "My parents are apart of the council. They make sure everything's in order." He walked out of the balcony and back into Alainia's room. After about a minute or so, she followed. But when she got into the room, Jason wasn't. He must have left for the festival, Alainia thought. She walked over to where there was another door and opened it. She piered inside and saw a bed room that was mostly red. There was a bed in the middle of the far wall and a fire place on the other. In the far left corner was a desk that looked as though it was really old. Next to the desk was an empty book case. There was another balcony, but smaller than the other one and it was pointing in a different direction. Alainia walked over to it and looked out. There was a plant on the balcony that was at the moment having buds. It was a blossom tree, Alainia's favorite kind of flower. There was also a chair that was there for her to watch the sunset. Alainia looked out and saw that she had a clear view of the sky. Not one wisp of cloud was in the sky. It was one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen.

"Nice isn't it? Of course, I can't really see it," came a small voice. Alainia turned around to see who was speaking, but no one was there. She clutched the egg a bit tighter. "Hello? I'm in your arms. Don't squeeze my egg so tight please." Slowly, she turned her head downward to the egg. "Yes, I can talk while I'm still in my egg. I guess lover boy forgot to tell you about that?"

"Lover boy?" Alainia was confused.

"Jason...er...whatever his name is," said the egg. "Don't worry, it's not the shell that's talking, it's the dragon inside the shell. So, what's up?"

"What's up?" Can this day get any weirder? Alainia thought.

"Hey!" said the dragon. "I asked you the question first...nah! I'm just kidding with ya."

"Um...okay," Alainia didn't really know what to say to a dragon that was still inside it's egg. "Er...when are you going to hatch...wait, what's your name?"

"You're supposed to give me a name that suits the elments I represent," explained the dragon. "And as for when I'm gonna hatch, I'd say about three days. So, what are you going to name me?"

"Well," Alainia thought for a while. "Are you a boy or a girl?"

"I'm a girl," said the dragon. "Do I sound like a boy?"

"No, not really," Alainia stood there thinking with the egg in her arms, trying to figure out what element white could be. "Um...I know that one of the elements you represent is fire, but what element could be white?"

"Snow," said the dragon. "The white represents snow, since I was the first dragon ever to be laid in the snow region."

"Er...snow and fire," Alainia walked over to the bed and sat down on the bright red covers. "...snow and fire...snow...fire....hey! I got it!"

"Really?" exclaimed the dragon. "That was quick! So, what is it?"

"Snow Fire," said Alainia happily. "Does that name suit you?"

"It's perfect," said Snow Fire. Alainia and Snow Fire talked practically all night that night. Laughing and talking about what they were going to do tomorrow. Even though Snow Fire had never seen Alainia and Alainia had never seen Snow Fire, it felt like the two of them had known each other forever.

"...and then I looked over to where Jason was looking and saw Zoe and her gang crying their eyes out," Alainia was saying. Snow Fire was laughing a gurgley laugh. "I don't quite get why they were crying though." After a fit of laughing, Alainia started to feel a bit tired. "Okay, we should probably get to bed. Jason's probably going to come over and start my training as soon as the sun comes up."

"All right," Snow Fire sighed. "I guess you're right. We don't want to keep lover boy waiting tomorrow." And the two of them once again started to laugh once more. After they could breath again, they finally went to bed. Alainia put Snow Fir
