Sunday, June 18, 2006 - Satisfaction... even joy accepting my lot as from the Lord

I read Psalm 16 on June 16th

It goes along the same thread as my last post.  The Lord is teaching me about being content about my portion and lot.  Here are the highlights, my notes in italics:

"Keep me safe, O God,

        for in you I take refuge.

I said to the Lord, 'You are my Lord;

        apart from you I have no good thing.'"

{If I believe that apart from the Lord I have no good thing, then why would I wish for some other plan for my life or see the grass as greener on the other side...  It is true that what the Lord has given me is what I need.}

"Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;

you have made my lot secure.

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

surely I have a delightful inheritance."

{My station in life is not mere chance, but it is purposed by the Lord.  He has me where I am, with the people of his choosing, in this stage of life... and it is all on purpose.  Matter of fact, if I care to consider it, there are wonderful and beautiful things about what he has blessed me with and what he is doing in and through me because of the specific stage of life I am in.  I cannot, must not, complain.}

"I have set the Lord always before me,

Because he is at my right hand,

I will not be shaken."

{When we trust the Lord, and I mean really trust him, setting him always before us, no matter the circumstances, we can fully expect to remain steadfast.}

"You have made known to me the path of life;

you will fill me with joy in your presence,

with eternal pleasure at your right hand."

{Because I trust Christ and him as the way of salvation, continued sanctification, and eventual glorification, by faith, I know the path of life.  Eternal life has already begun.  I can know joy in the everyday and eternal pleasure in the here and now.}

When our gaze is fixed on HIM, we can have satisfaction in the day to day, even JOY when we realize that what he has allotted us is on purpose for our very good.  When the Lord is our refuge and constantly before us, he will keep us safe - even from wandering desires and fear of the future.

{This is a messianic psalm, talking of our Savior as well as being a psalm of David written with that alternate meaning - I have not forgotten nor am I discussing the interpretation of this psalm, only a personal application :) }

Amy, that's a wonderful Psalm and I can appreciate all the applications you've drawn from it. Amen, sister!
