Extracurricular activities 7/28/07
Today I thought I'd talk a little about our extracurricular activities. I thought about doing this today because we spent 2 hours at K's gym--that's right, me, A, L and FQ in the waiting area watching K's class. FQ is quite active but managed to throw only 3 tantrums. Not bad, I thought.
So I'm working out our fall schedules and so far it looks like this:
Monday:
1-3P, homeschool "Swim N Gym" at the local YMCA, where the kids will swim for an hour, then have swim instruction for an hour; all the girls do this
3:30-4, A's piano lesson
4:45-6:30, K's dance class
Tuesday:
1-3P, homeschool art class taught in Spanish for all girls
5-7P, K's gym class
Wednesday:
1-3P, homeschool Swim N Gym
4:45-6:30, K's dance class
Thurs:
1-3P, homeschool art in Spanish
5-7P, K's gym class
6-7, A's gym class
Friday:
1:45, L's gym class
3-5ish, park day with other homeschoolers
Sat:
10:30-11:30, L's dance class
10-11:30, A's dance class
noon, A's yoga class
That seems like an insane schedule, doesn't it? Worse--I still have to fit K's tennis lessons in there somewhere. We have to get our schoolwork started right at 9A or else! I'm glad I'm pretty laid back about the school stuff though. I use Saturday and occasionally Sunday to finish up our stuff.
A lot of people criticize me for having our kids in so many things. But K really enjoys her dance and gym and moreover, she really enjoys them at a competitive level. A has very mild cerebral palsy and keeping fit and active in sports is crucial for her. And L has a lot of energy and is quite athletic and I think the activities are great for her. I know, I know. I could just take them to the playground. But I think the actual instruction in a recreational activity or sport is better. When FQ gets older, of course he will play futbol (American soccer). It is the male thing to do in our family.
Anyway--this is what our schedule looks like so far....I hope I can find a mother's helper soon. Our current mother's helper is graduating from college and leaving us for a "real" job. We wish her the best but it is so sad to have her leave!!!
