K.'s work up to date 8/12/07

Posted in Children's Work
Whew!  We've been very busy and I've gotten behind as usual.    K. got ill about a week and a half ago, so we just decided to finish up her work the next week and just take it slowly.

So here is her writing assignment for week 6 of SL's LA program.  She was to write a character sketch of Pocahontas, based on a reading book about Pocahontas.  The book is by Clyde Robert Bulla and was one of her readers for this year.  I can't remember the title.  Anyway, she used that to base her sketch.

Pocahontas character sketch, by K.
written in August 2007

Pocahontas is a sweet girl.  She was sweet when she freed the eagle and when she helped John Smith.  When Pocahontas freed the eagle, it shows that she has respect for other things.  She isn't greedy.  She is very able to put herself in other people's shoes, or see things through other people's eyes.  The other Indians don't like the white men because they take their food.  Pocahontas says, "They don't know how to live here, we must help them."  She says they must be friends with the English.  She showed she really did like the English when she told them the Indians' plans.  When Pocahontas saved Captain John Smith from angry Indians, she had done a daring thing.  And again it shows that she really liked the English.  Pocahontas has a mind of her own and not many can tamper with it.

Hmm....I know another girl who has a mind of her own!!

K. has gotten better from her illness though she still is a little bit under the weather.  We would love your prayers as we're leaving for Peru this coming week!

God bless,
AH

You Are a Mac
You are creative, stylish, and super trendy. You demand the best - even if it costs an arm and a leg.
You Are Austin
A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. You're totally weird and very proud of it. Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way. Famous Austin residents: Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock, Andy Roddick
You Belong in Paris
You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris. You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.
What Your Pizza Reveals
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either. You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US. Your taste in food tends to favor what's rich and comforting. You prefer food that will definitely satisfy you. You are eclectic, stylish, and totally random with your choices. You are deep and thoughtful. You should consider traveling to Paris. The stereotype that best fits you is guy or girl next door. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average.
