We have been doing concept mapping as a note-taking tool for several years now. It was inevitable; the kids' have a tremendously visual homeschool mom.

Last year I found aout about a free software tool developed by a collaboration of universities. It is called Cmap and it is about as perfect a concept mapping solution as you can get. Not only is it easy to use, but is has loads of built in ways to share and collaborate the concept maps with others is you want to.
