Another Multiplication Fact Trick

Here is another Multiplication trick for facts 6 and up. You will need to know your lower math facts before this one will be helpful.

Begin by assigning the numbers 6 and up to each finger starting with the pinkies (6)going to the thumbs (10).  Toush the two fingers together that represents the multiplication fact you need. In the example below it is 8 X 7. Count how many fingers are below the two touching fingers and then count the two touching fingers in the total too. In the case of 8 X 7 it would be 5 fingers. Now, multiply by 10 to get what you would add to the next step. Now multiply the number of fingers on one hand by the number of fingers on the other hand that are above the two touching fingers. In this case it is 2X3=6. Now put it together and you get 56. Try it with other multiplication facts where the numbers are 6 to 10.

Multiplication Tricks that Make Math Facts Easy

There are many neat tricks in learning the multiplication facts. Here is one for the 9's family.

Start out using your fingers until you have a good grasp on it. Then you will find you can do it mentally without your fingers. Put up all the fingers on both hands. assign each finger a number from 1 to 10 in order going left to right. Now what ever you are multiplying 9 by, put that single finger down. Count how many fingers are to the left of that one - that is the firsdt digit of the answer. Now count how many fingers are to the right - that is the second digit of the answer.

Here is an example - 9 X 4 = 36

3 fingers to the left and 6 fingers to the right of the 4th finger would be 36. Get it? See how easy it is?
