“Why Are You So Popular?”
Posted at 12:48 AM on Jan. 8, 2009
The two most frequently asked questions I receive are “Why are you so popular?” and “How do you get so many comments/readers?” One of my friend’s comment made me laugh too: “I reckon you blog is the trunk of Homeschoolblogger and all the other blogs branch out of it coz everyone has you on their friends list.”
So, I decided to do an entire post about this subject for anyone else that might ask or wonder in the future. I told you in a previous post why I blog. While my blog started out as just a place to journal my homeschoool the Lord soon turned it into a weapon and tool for Him. I believe that in everything you do must have a purpose, glorifying to the Lord. My main mission now is to encourage ladies in the Lord.
As you may notice from reading this or many of my other posts t... Read more
Kid Drives To School After Driving in Video Game
Posted at 11:55 AM on Wednesday, January 7, 2009
Oopsie. This should make parents think about where they put their keys. A six year-old kid drives on a highway to get to school to make PE and breakfast. I guess breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
One question: were the parents charged with Child Endangerment for letting him have access to the car or for letting him play Grand Theft Auto? This is a game where you can ruthlessly gun down innocent people and get away with it, where you regain player health by having sessions with prostitutes, where you live as a member of an underworld crime syndicate loaded with racism, corruption, and rampant murder. Letting him play should be considered reckless child endangerment. I avoid judging situations where I don't know the whole story, and the media never tells the whole story. On the other hand, I can't think of a case where a young child who is learning to spell "house" and "car" should ever be allowed to play GTA.
The fact that he drove to school thinking it was just like the video games shows us yet again that kids do have trouble sometimes distinguishing between games and reality. Parents must help their kids realize that life doesn't have a reset button and if you die, you don't come back by hitting "Continue." His dad needs to think these things over while he waits for bail and sees the real, living examples of thugs living the GTA life.
Homeschooling Grows
Posted at 11:04 AM on Wednesday, January 7, 2009
USA Today, the national McNewspaper, churned out an article on Monday saying simply, Home Schooling Grows. The article has inspired just under 1,000 comments from registered users of the USA Today site.
What they should have said is that homeschooling is maturing and diversifying. People are starting to homeschool for more reasons than simply the desire to teach their kids about God. Instead, people are finding that homeschooling allows their children to learn at their own pace instead of in lock-step with the class. They're finding that their kids don't have to do homework or spend 8 hours locked away in apublic school when they can be home with their families, learning what they need with a lower time investment and a big improvement in quality of life.
Homeschooling is growing and diversifying and for all the right reasons.
The Charge is. . .Intellectual Abandonment
Posted at 9:46 PM on Jan. 6, 2009
Homeschoolers have been brought to court for many reasns but I think this is the first time I've heard of intellectual abadonment. Such is the charge against one homeschooling family in Brazil. Currently homeschooing is illegal in Brazil but a bill is in congress that could make it legal.
I believe homeschoolers have proven that home education heightens one's intellect. The Nunes children have proven through various tests that their intellect isn't neglected, let alone abandonded.
Pray for the Nunes family and that Brazil will make homeschooling legal.

"But if you'd like to hear from her..." HA! Love that line from Batman Begins! :P I feel so out of the blogging world. :( I have been working nonstop on the GGM PDF's for our one year anniversary! They are coming along so nicely, but take up a lot of my time! :)
So I haven't commented or posted for days because of that reason. And I am hardly keeping up with Twitter and Facebook. But it sure does bring a smile to my face to see your comments, tweets, and status comments and wall posts! :D
Anyway, I thought I would stop in and let y'all know I didn't fly away to Krypton or anything, just staying busy! The life of a Homeschooling College Student! LOL! Thought I would share some CUTE pics I found of the LillieGirl! Man, I love that baby! :) I am not even sure when these were... someone just got them...

My Cup Of Tea...
Posted at 3:00 PM on Jan. 5, 2009
When you think of life in the 1800s what do you think of? Well, there are a few different types of settings I think of…. Pioneers, Easterners, and Victorian England (and of course Pride & Prejudice). Though all of these people live a different way and in different places, they all have one thing in common.. tea.
Back in the Victorian era, tea parties were an event to simply get together with your friends, with whom you shared common interest with, to have an enjoyable afternoon. Today in our century we don’t host “tea parties”, but we do plan events to get together with people and families of whom we enjoy their company. I have always thought very fondly of hosting a tea party, all dressed up, as the Bennett sisters would have been, or even as Anne and Dianna did in Anne of Green Gables (though theirs ended in disaster)...Read more

Matt and Jacque Dixon, with their daughters, Miss Amanda, 19, and Miss Jocelyn, 17, created Gleaning the Harvest after seeing the need of support for widows and fatherless families in the home school community. Though Gleaning the Harvest is a ministry founded by Matt & Jacque Dixon, it is designed as a ministry of the Body of Christ. Through Gleaning the Harvest, you are given the opportunity to fulfill what James calls “pure religion”.
James 1:27
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
It is the belief at Gleaning the Harvest that it is the responsibility of the Body of Christ as much as they are able to help moms remain in the home being a Keeper at Home and home school mom. In searching Scripture, it is found that God’s people are to take up for the fatherless, the widow, and the stranger. As a family whose wife and mom is staying home teaching their children, following what they believe to be the LORD’s plan for women, the Dixons asked themselves why it should be different for a single mom and what they could do to lessen the burden.
To fulfill the blessing of Deuteronomy 24 to allow the strangers, widows and fatherless to glean in the fields after the harvest is the first part of their mission. Though this is not a real field or vineyard to glean in, at the Gleaning the Harvest site, you can open up your virtual harvest and offer gleanings to families in need through direct payment to the families.
The second part of the mission is to aid families in fulfilling Deuteronomy 6 within their families through home schooling. Being a homeschool family themselves, they understand the desire to keep children home to teach, lead and love in the nurture and admonition of the LORD, as we walk with them and talk with them.
You are invited to become a Partner with Gleaning the Harvest and support the families promoted on the website. Read more at Welcome To Gleaning the Harvest.

Swapping Blessings
Posted at 3:11 PM on January 4, 2009
In the January issue of GGM I wrote an article called Shh... It's A Secret! It is about being a secret pal, secret angel, etc. It is such a wonderful blessing to be a secret angel to someone and bless them and encourage them without them knowing who you are. So if you imagine the great experience it is when you're a secret angel and they don't know who you are, then imagine what a wonderful experience it is to KNOW who your secret angel is! The HSBA Post has a wonderful thing called Swap Sister group where they send you a swap sister to pray for, encourage, get to know, and send a small gift! I have been so blessed by this group! Though I run the Super Secret Angels for girls, I don't get to participate, so I was EVERY excited when I was able to join the Swap Sister group!
I had an absolutely wonderful Swap Sister this time: Mrs. Pitts. She was so wonderful and I was very blessed to have her prayers and encouragement! Y'all know HOW MUCH I love getting mail (packages or letters) and when there was a package addressed to me sitting on the table, I was SOO excited! :D Then I opened it and was loving what I saw!

I really love the journal! It has a scripture on every page and I have decided to memorize those scriptures as I write in it! Pretty neat, huh? And this is on the front! What a promise to remember!
Every Day Is A Gift From God!
I also received a cross plaque with one of my fave scriptures: I am going to hang this on my wall to see and remember everyday! I am so grateful for Jesus: the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace.
I would really encourage you if you are a homeschooling mama to join us on January 10th for the next Swap Sister group at HSBA . And if you are a young lady who would like to join a similar group for girls, the SSA's will be starting the next session soon too!
Oh! The Carnival of Homeschooling will be having its 3 year anniversary on Tuesday so make sure you get your submission sent it by Monday at 9pm EST! I already got mine in!
Love, Prayers and Blessings,
Thanks for stopping by “Daily” at the “Planet”!!

Awake, My Soul, And The Sun

The Bible calls us to give the Lord our first fruits, and what comes to mind for me, and many, is tithing, but what else are we to give the Lord of our first fruits? Though I fail continually I always try to give the Lord the first of my day in prayer and study of His Word. I start my day with meditating of His commands and His love so I might obey and be a witness for Him even to my family. How often do we skip.... Read More
