Another Sunday, another church... this one was SUPER FRIENDLY. The scripture was verse by verse out of 1 Thes 4. The message "preached" but was inaccurate. He used the wrong version of the Bible and the word fornication was replaced with immorality. Doesn't sound like a big deal until you really try to study something. There is a difference between fornication and adultery. Both things are immorality but two separate types. This verse wasn't referring to both types of immorality: just fornication. This passage wasn't referring to adultery... oh wells... it still "preached". Next week will be another church. Someday I might find a church home.
After church we headed out to the park where there was a civil war re-enactment. We had SOOOO much fun. It totally picked our spirits up! They had a sign up booth for children to enlist in the army. Of course our older three children enlisted. The lady overheard me saying that women were not allowed to fight back then and then stepped in with her feminist viewpoint. She assured our girls that "There were women who fought in the civil war. They just had to hide that they were women so they would not be mistreated." Yes, I am sure that happened but this woman made it sound normal, which it was not. Oh wells. Feminists we are not. At 1:00 all the children gathered. We were kind of bummed because we though we accidentally signed up for the North. Well, much to our surprise, after they lined all the soldiers up and passed out guns, they asked if anyone wanted to be a Rebel! My children immediately stepped forward. And before you think to badly of us please realize there was MUCH more at stake than slavery. I believe that slavery would of ended eventually anyway. What was at stake was losing freedom to big government. Then the children were off to some drills. After drilling the new soldiers they marched off into the woods. There they sat still and silent waiting for those Yankees to show up. Down the road came the other children marching with some blue coats leading them. The battle began. There was lots of shooting, playing dead, running to new positions and our children's side even took some hostages! The whole time cannons were firing. (a tip- if you are ever at a re-enactment, where you are close to the cannons, open your mouth and it will help your ears not to get hurt.) Now, we have a family that would love to get into this. Savannah, oldest DD, was not much into this whole being in battle thing, but boy oh boy would she love to sip some tea with ladies while wearing a big dress with a hoop! Dad likes the thought of blacksmithing and Jacob just wants to go back into battle- what a boy! ![]() You can see a couple of our children behind this cannon. By this point their formation was totally out of whack. Jacob is on the right side of the photo with two guns. He got an extra in battle somehow. I think one of our hostages left it behind after he escaped or something. Savannah is in the red and orange above the middle of the cannon. ![]() Gabriel and I. He slept through all the cannon blasts! He only jumped for the first few shots. The noise level was incredible. ![]() Rebekah is in pink. ![]() Savannah in orange and red with her brother Jacob to the right. ![]() Benjamin with his pickle. |
Adah Mae, who is four years old, comes up to me tonight and starts a conversation. She is talking about her granny. Part of it goes like this- "Hey, mom." "What?" "I hope Granny doesn't die." "Why would she die?" "Because she's OLD and old people die sometimes. Aren't you glad we're not old?" This conversation would of made you laugh if you were there. |
Happy Birthday Ricky! This is his cake. For those of you who don't know, we own and drive a short bus! This is him in one of his gifts. He likes funny shirts. We each got him one thing. It turned out he got a solar powered flashlight, 2 funny shirts, 2 NGJ products, a tool cart and a VW stamp. The stamp is a stamp from Hitler's reign. He made the people use stamps to get their food. This is a stamp they used to save up for a car. For those of you who don't know, VW bugs were made for Hitler's people to use. My husband likes Volkswagen's because they run forever so we thought this would be an interesting thing for him to own. |
| Yup, our dog fits into our family quite well. She, Buttercup, is just as weird as we are and if you doubt just keep reading. Buttercup loves fruits and vegetables, especially watermelon! She can't stomach the whole melon's rind (we feed her the leftover rind) but she can eat several chunks before she gets to full. The gimp has only used three of her legs for the past several years. The nerves were damaged in the front leg above her paw after an encounter with a wild animal in the weeds. Well, the children were berry picking the other day. Whenever they go berry picking they have to take the dog because she is very protective over them. So, there they were, just pickin' away and guess what? The dog was pickin' away too! The next day I went berry picking and took the dog. Low and behold, my eyes did not deceive me, I have photos to prove it! She started eating blackberries! ![]() The above photo is of her biting onto the bush and the lower one is of her pulling the berry off to eat it. Sorry about the poor quality of the photos in this blog entry- I used my cell phone for all of them and they don't come out well when there is movement involved. And today the poor dog was green. Our two year old Benjamin painted her... and got into trouble over it... sometimes it is hard not to laugh when they do things like this. I know that God takes sin very seriously; but, I have to wonder if God would smile at this kind of folly. Probably not. |
