Blog etiquette

Since I'm new at blogging I'm not sure what the etiquette is. When someone posts do you go to their blog and comment? Do you email them? Do you add them to your friends? Educate me please! Thank you!

Hey, I figured out how to put my pic up on the side. Cool, huh?

I figured out how to add friends too, I only added those that I have talked to before though, thus the above question. That would bring us to another question, how do I add emoticons?

Jan. 12, 2006 - I'm not sure if there's "rules" ...

I'm not sure if there's "rules" ... but in general, if someone new visits, I think it's not required but nice to go visit and comment on theirs, at least with a "hey, thanks for visiting". Moreso on low-traffic blogs, the ones that get many many comments each day probably don't even try to do so. But you don't need to reciprocate EACH comment, I don't think -- for example, I don't want you to feel you need to comment X times on my blog because I've commented X times on yours. A lot depends on the person - I am chatty (as you know) and I also like getting comments, so I tend to assume others feel the same, that they appreciate comments and interpret them as "people care about what I write!" ... but I also go to blogs that I read and rarely comment, especially if I don't know the person or if they didn't reciprocate any of my early comments.

As far as adding links to people ... I usually add 1.) friends and 2.) blogs I read pretty regularly. If I just go visit someone who commented on mine, I wait and see if I want to keep visiting before I read them. Sometimes I wait or ask if they would mind, since this system shows who has added you, which is sort of weird. I don't know if, for example, you WANT a lot of links or not, so I was planning to ask, "would you mind if I made you a friend?" -- I am more likely to ask if I see the person has few-to-no friends listed on their blog, assuming they might not WANT the connection links provide.

When you're entering messages there's a little icon above the text window of a smiley - if you click that button it should bring up a window of emoticons that I think you click-to-add. It doesn't work quite right on my system, though. I'm not sure why, but I suppose it's because I am using a (superior ;-) LOL) Mac.

:-) Kim ~ who hopes she isn't stressing you out by reading and commenting on your blog

Ok....pretty much everything Kim just said. I only post comments on blogs if they have posted something I WANT to comment on. I don't always reply to comments on my blog. Just the ones that ask questions or seem to need a reply.

Have I told you how absolutely THRILLED I am that you are blogging?????
