Blessed Woman

Feb. 2, 2006

I love my family!

I just love my family!!! They make me the happiest woman in the world.

We do have our moments, don't get me wrong. I was ranting and raving just the other morning because my four youngest boys were so naughty. After I was through I had the most polite little boys any mom has ever seen. My ten year old son hates when mom gets upset and especially upset with him. To make things right he cleaned his dresser off, made his bed, vacuumed, brought hampers down, cleaned bathrooms, worked in the kitchen. My house was just about spotless between me and him. (Is that correct English?) The rest of the day was glorious.

My second son and his girlfriend came over for dinner Tuesday night. I try to have him over once a week so he can spend time with the little boys and stay connected to the family. We had bbq riblets, beef Rice-a-Roni, vegies and hot dog bun garlic bread. After we were all cleaned up we plopped ourselves down on our huge couch and watched two episodes of  The Brady Bunch. It was pure torture for anyone over twelve but our younger boys love the show so we endured it for the sake of being together. He left and our little guys look forward to him coming and staying with them in a few days while dad and mom go on a Palm Springs vacation. (Dad's idea)

They love Jake coming to stay with them. He reads to them often. But he does it the fun way! He reads the book backwards and sometimes the words backwards. In fact, my six year old son wanted to know when Sunday was. I asked him "Why?" Cuz you guys are leaving and JAKE is COMING!!! I guess we know they'll be in good hands and won't miss us too much if JAKE is here. (I must be chopped liver or something.)

Yesterday my six year old son brought in the cake mix and wanted to know which cake he should make. I picked the chocolate one and he marched into the kitchen and started making it. This was his first cooking experience! He did a great job! I only measured the oil and water and he did the rest. He even thought of adding chocolate chips and sprinkles to the batter. (Boy after moms own heart.) It turned out splendid! He frosted it and added more sprinkles. We enjoyed it last night after dinner and before Dad's Bible Lesson.

I so appreciate my younger boys! My eight year old and ten year old make me hot tea every day. They know just how mom likes it and they make sure it's just right.

We did have a little trouble this week with our teenaged son. Whoever said that boys were easier to raise when they were teens must not of had boys. I think that is why I must now go to have the gray colored out of my hair every two weeks now instead of three. Did you know I would be completely gray if I didn't color my hair. Anyways, I'm getting sidetracked.

Upon further review I decided to edit this portion.

If I've come to any conclusion with my family so far it's that just because we're homeschooled doesn't mean we're any better or more righteous than anyone else. We still fall into sin. What amazes me is I know what my children are exposed to as homeschoolers, here all day with me. (We can't even drive down the road without a Chippendale billboard greeting us). I cannot even fathom the garbage they would be gettting in the public school around other fools all day.

Thank God for Jesus and the hope we have in him. Please don't ever think that just because you homeschool, raise your children a certain way, blah, blah, blah, they won't sin. We're all sinners born into sin. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus, He's our only hope.

I sure don't know where anyone got the idea boys are easier. Having 7 of them I've learned otherwise.

Your Jake sounds like a neat guy! You did good Mama.

I really enjoyed your blog! I am a SAHM (33) and I have 2 boys ages 10 and two.........and silly me thought that there wouldn't be sibling rivalry (rofl). This is our first year homeschooling and it has been a tremendous challenge.....but all things are possible with God right?

Anyway, I will be back......love making new friends!

You are so right about them not being sinless just because they are homeschooled...we've seen evidence of that in our home. I can't imagine what it would be like if they were in public school.

Amen to what you said about how just b/c you homeschool that does not mean your children are saved. We are not saved by works and our children are not saved by our work of homeschooling them. I needed that reminder today. Thanks!
