We (hubby and I) left last Sunday to go to Palm Springs (think 80* + weather, hot desert air, movies, Hilton Hotel, restaurants....) we didn't get home until Friday!
We had planned to stay until Thursday but our second son Jake had things so under control he gave us permission to stay an extra day. WOW!!!
You wouldn't believe all the crazy things I did. The things I get myself into. Think 'I Love Lucy'.
Sunday wasn't too bad. We watched the SuperBowl, rather Steve watched the Super Bowl while I took a nap through part of it. We had bought deli sandwiches before so we didn't need to go out of our room once we got there.
Monday we decided to go to the Indian Canyons in the Palm Springs area. They were unbelievable-awesome is the only word that describes it. In this one area there were palm trees, white sand, and a stream. We felt like we were in Hawaii! Well, do you think I was content to just lounge under the palm tree? Oh no-not me! We decided to take the trail to the left instead of the right and ended up going up the side of a mountain for a good hour. I had to stop and catch my breath, oh probably every twenty steps or so. (Think overweight, high blood pressure, never takes her vitamins, on her cycle, huffing up a hill) Oh yeah-you get the picture. I must say I did pretty good.
Tuesday we got up and supposedly we were going to lay around after our little trip the day before. Well, my hubby trying to get me active decided we should take a short walk before we go to the movie, maybe a mile or a half hour whatever seemed like we wanted to do. That was the longest mile, half-half hour we ever went on. We really were just going to go around the block. This block ended up being 4 1/2 miles long. It took us two hours. Two hours I tell you, in the hot desert son with NO water. We acted like fools running across streets (because of sidewalks ending) and dodging cars. At one point Steve dropped his new pedometer and walked back to find it. Amazing he did find it not too far back from where we were.
I think I limped the rest of the day. My feet were so tired.
Wednesday we took in a movie and lounged around and I really can't remember, we probably ate ourselves into a coma.
Thursday we went to Joshua Tree National Park and drove around. We hiked around this one old dam. We've lived in Southern California all our lives and had never been to this amazing wonder. It's quite the rock climbing attraction. We met a young couple from Seattle that came all the way down just to climb.
Well, I must go, the popcorn is almost ready and I need my Diet Coke. I'll fill you in a little more tomorrow.
By the way-I started a bunch of auctions at .99. They'll end on Thursday night. Check them out-you might find something you like! www.thebiblicalfamily.com
Good night!

Feb. 12, 2006 - Welcome home!
Your "short walk around the block" reminds me of when Dale and I were first married we took a trip to the Smoky Mountains and set off on a 1 mile hike in the mountains to see a waterfall. But we'd misread the map, and missed the actual trail, and turned out that we were on the 5 mile loop to the waterfall. We didn't figure it out until we were over half-way. But 5 miles on paper is "as the crow flies" and didn't count all the ups and downs of the mountains. And us poor flat-Michigan dwellers were NOT in shape for an all day trek in the mountains with no food and only a little to drink. Gah, we thought we were going to die out there. And then when we got to the waterfall? It was okay. Just okay. Would've been *great* for a 1 mile trip, but it was NOT worth all day. And then on the very last leg, from the waterfall back (on the SHORT loop this time) we kept meeting whiney people saying, "This is so far! Wah wah! Are we almost to the waterfall?" and we wanted to scream at them, "You think THIS is far?!?!" Ha ha. So mature of us. The next morning we were so stiff we couldn't walk, only hobble. And my sweet husband videotaped me trying to hobble to the campground bathroom.
