Started Weight Watcher's Saturday. I would like to lose sixty pounds. I not only would like to lose sixty pounds but was ordered a year ago to do so. I have high blood pressure and the doctor wants me to lose the weight so I can get off the medicine.
I've been taking my vitamins regularly lately. It's time to get a refill! Also taking my iron as I tend to get very anemic. A year and a half ago I went in for an extended cycle and my numbers (I can't remember what they called it.) were at seven. The doctor immediately called me because that is transfusion level but he had no idea as I didn't "look" anemic. So since then I have been on the road to trying to get healthier.
My thyroid levels are still too low so the doctor upped my dose. A little over a year ago I went to the doctor to have a paper signed as we were pursuing foster parenting. The dr. found a lump in my neck area which turned out to be cancerous. I didn't even know where the thyroid was but I do now! I don't have one anymore! A year ago this month they took the whole thing out. Now I have a nice little scar across my neck but it fits nicely into my crease so it's not as noticeable as it could be.
I also had a radioactive iodine treatment and had to be isolated for several days. Think pills that are so radioactive they get brought to you in special containers. Isolated in a room where no one can come in. Great stuff to put in my body. It did the trick though. As far as I know I'm cancer free. I go back later this year for another full body scan to see if any cancer cells grew and planted somewhere.
All of this thyroid stuff has led to my female hormones being out of whack. Went to another dr. to see why my cycle lasted three weeks and turns out I'm low on progesterone. So I left with a three month prescription for that. The dr. saw on my chart that I would like to have a baby so he didn't even mention the words "birth control pill" which was a first!! They all want to put me on the pill to regulate my cycle but when you probably only have a year and a half left to have a baby and you don't believe in birth control, the battle and explaining can get tiring. I swim against the tide and they're not used to women like me who at 45 all ready have eight children, six miscarriages, four csections (first two and last two) and gestational diabetes with the last two would like another.
So now I take a myriad of pills everyday, thyroid medicine, high blood pressure medicine, iron, and my vitamins. At least they're available to help me but it kinda stinks gettin' older.
