Jan. 5, 2009 - When the Dark of Night Closes In
What is it about the late night hours that make a young, female, want-to-be authoress mind go wild?
Was it the hundreds of quotes about books and reading she had read the night before, or was it the book she had read before turning out the lights and crawling under the covers. After all, the Bible is the best book ever written. Surely it could have inspired something.
It couldn't have been the trip to the library earlier that day, or the hours spent reading the sequel to one of her favorite novels.
Why is it she must find the perfect wording for the end of her work in progress at that moment, when her eyelids are heavy, and all around her, her family is sleeping.
Then, just as the words click together. Just when everything falls into place, her dreams take over, and in the morning when the light comes on and the sound of the house screams morning in her ears. Why is it she has forgotten those magic words? Why is it they have run away from her mind, never to come home again. Perhaps make their way into another novel, another teenage girls late night thoughts.
Gone forever... the perfect phrase that would have made her novels famous. The big one that got away.

Jan. 2, 2009 - Goals for 2009
I'm not really sure how I feel about 2009. Several things have happened that have made me dread it, on the other hand, I can't wait to get started! I'm not as scared as I was about a month ago though. I've learned to trust in God. Such a wonderful feeling.
Now, I am not going to use the word resolutions because I don't really like that word, (don't ask why) but I do have some goals for this year.
1. Learn a new event on horse back. Maybe dressage, although I've really been thinking I would like to learn more about reining.
2. Finish the novel I am working on. I had hoped to have it done by now, but things got SO busy. It looks like it might take me a little longer then planned.
3. Have my children's book be accepted by a publisher, or at least to give it my best shot!
4. To watch my temper. Something I've been having trouble with.
5. To keep a better journal. You can read one entry dated 3/16/08 and then move to the next one written on 7/3/08.
6. Not to spend as much time on the computer.
7. To improve the relationship I have with my brothers, it has been lacking for far to long.
8. To learn to play guitar, or at least start to learn.
9. To grow closer to God, and glorify Him in everything I do.

Jan. 1, 2009 - Celebrations Galore!
I've had a great Christmas so far.
Like every year my family and I traveled to my Aunt and Uncle's house for Christmas day and stayed with them for almost a week. We had a great time.
I was really glad to see Eyebright, and have her come home with us. That's right folks, the long lost sister is back. For a short time at least.
While at my Uncle's house I was asked if I got anything cool for Christmas by a distant relative.
I informed him that as yet I had not opened any gifts from my parents so I was not sure yet.
"So your stretching Christmas out through the week?"
After I told him I would not be having Christmas with my Grandparents till mid January, and I had no idea when I was having Christmas with my Grammy his statement changed to.
"Oh! So your stretching Christmas out for a month!"
We opened gifts from Mum and Daddy the night we got home. I myself got an I-dog. I know it's rather silly, but I've been wanting one for a while, and it's really cute!
I also unwrapped a beautiful, soft, green scarf. It looks great with the sweat shirt my "riding partner" gave me.

To Ride, Or Not To Ride? What a Stupid Question
A saying I've been told fits me well.
The second to last present was for all of us kids, and after ripping the paper open with zeal we discovered a Wii!
You can just imagine the excitement.
New Years Eve we once again stuck with tradition... almost anyway. We took a spur of the moment trip over the mountains and through the woods to a strange Best Buy store to get Eyebright a new camera. Our Best Buy didn't have the right one.
The good thing about this was that Mum and Daddy got her old camera and I got the family's old camera. It worked out for everyone.

We got home in time to play the Wii for a little while and set up our New Years table of treats. The list goes as follows.
Chocolate Covered Cherries, milk and dark
Blondie Fudge, with walnuts
and Sparkling Cider
On some years orange sticks could be added, but this year they celebrated at another table.
With three cameras going, we got plenty of pictures.
The normal would be to watch the ball drop on t.v, but we no longer have our satellite and don't get the channel. I was not to bothered by the fact.
This year Daddy watched the clock on his computer (we had to be sure it was accurate) then rushed to the table counting down the seconds from ten.

It was fun to hear the neighbors fireworks as we sipped cider and nibbled fudge.
Us children then stumbled off to bed, with the music from the Wii drifting to our bedrooms from the living room.
Daddy was up for awhile last night trying to figure out how to cast his fishing pole.
Our next celebration will be tonight with my Grammy. She is finally ready for Christmas, so she is making us a big dinner and we will be exchanging gifts.
I know it's hard to believe, but this post was much longer the first time. I was almost done when the computer froze up and I had to shut down the computer. After banging my head on the desk, I wrote it again. You lucky readers.
I leave you with the one Christmasy picture I took that I am willing to share with you, at least until tomorrow.

Remember the reason for the season my friends, and have a very wonderful 2009!

Dec. 22, 2008 - The Sad Tail of an Uncrafty Person
The snow is falling, my hands are freezing, and the paper cut from wrapping gifts is smarting. Christmas must be just around the corner.
My family and I decided to go the creative route this year, and try to make more handmade gifts. However the one creative person in our family not being here, things have been just a little difficult.
It all started with the pillow cases. Mum said lets make pillow cases for this group of people. It will be really easy, I've got a simply pattern.
My Mum and I can not sew, I reminder her of this fact, and she continued to remind me it would be easy. I reminded her Eyebright was not here to rescue us if things should go wrong. She said everything would be easy.
I told her Eyebright was not here to simply do it. She said it would be easy.
The other day as we stood in the fabric store staring at all the many cottons, polyesters, silks, and velvets, my Mum decided we would not make pillow cases.
Yes, that's how uncrafty we are.
As if that was not enough and didn't warn us away we started on a memory game for some of the younger children we know. A home made one with pictures of family to pair up.
In the end the cards looked great, however Mum could have bought a game for how much it cost her. Whoever said homemade gifts were cheaper I would like to know?
As if that's not bad enough, one of the cards is now missing. We are very afraid it has fallen somewhere into the snow, and if it has we may have to wait till it all melts before we find it.
I was then silly enough to decide and make bookmarks for a friend of mine. Hours on Photoshop, and many yards of used laminate later (I didn't know I was laminating nothing. The whole machine was put together wrong!) The bookmarks turned out, I am hoping years of keeping a place in a book will flatten them. They don't look as professional curved like that.
End of story right? Wrong.
I wanted to make stationary to go with the book marks. Another hour on Photoshop, that ended with satisfaction until the paper came out of the printer. I can't stand pixels. They are always to big, and not enough of them. It all looked fine on Photoshop!
So anyway, I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
I hope your preparations went better then mine.

Dec. 18, 2008 - The Satisfaction in Reading that Last Page.
Let me tell you something.
Do not stay up till midnight to finish a really good book because you know it will not take you that long to get it done.
It's not worth it if all the rest of the next day you are going to fall asleep anytime you sit still for longer then five minutes, if you are going to feel like your head is going to blow up and a strange buzzing will haunt your ears.
Stop at a reasonable time, close the book, go to sleep, and pick it up again in the morning. Don't let the book draw you in and hold you hostage till you get to the last word on the last page.
Anyway, if you need me I'll be at my house, trying to remember how many times I've told myself this before.

Dec. 17, 2008 - A Pair of Jeans That Fit Just Right
I've been needing a new pair of jeans for awhile. After all, riding wears some pretty big holes in some pretty embarrassing places, and some of my jeans were really needing some help.
So when my Mom said we were going to Big R, I got down on my knees to plead and beg. We went to go look, and after trying on a pair, I walked out of the store triumphant.
I always get excited about getting new clothes, but for some reason, I get even more excited about new blue jeans.
I love the smell, and the feel, the color of that new pair.
Ahhh, life is good.

Dec. 13, 2008 - I'm Finding it Hard to Believe I Actually Took the Time to Upload Pictures.
Well, I've been asked once, or twice for pictures of me riding. As we now have a camera I will be happy to post some!
It was great to get out and ride after not being able to for so long. I could tell Angel really wanted to get moving as well. It didn't take long till we were both ready to run.

When Angel has not been ridden for awhile, she is like any horse. Lots of energy. When I pushed her into a canter if felt like she was a cannon ball coming out of a cannon. I could feel her frustration when I slowed her down again because she had gotten the wrong lead. She just wanted to go!

I normally have to wait till she has had her run before I can try to do anything with her in a canter, and lately we have been working on smaller circles at her break neck speed. She did great yesterday on those, although near the end she was starting to loose her temper over something. Still trying to figure out what.

I think when I left though, both of us were happy with the day, I was at least.
For those of you who are still wondering what I mean when I say an Australian saddle, I got some pictures just for you!

This saddle has a horn, although I have seen some Australian saddles that don't. It is also rather big for me, but I find it much more comfortable then the Western. I would love to try one that actually fits someday to see if I like it as much as the larger one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other news, it snowed for the second time of the year today. The first time was back in Oct. We were beginning to think we wouldn't be getting any more, but we were wrong. It snowed and snowed, as we valiantly drove to town to get a few things we needed to make some Christmas presents. I wouldn't be surprised if the little bit that stuck would be gone my tomorrow though.
I've been getting so excited for Christmas! I love this time of year. I can't wait to see all the family!
For those of you who read the first 50 facts about me, keep looking for the last 51, I was going to post them today before I realized that I still had to think of several more. It should be posted in the next few days.
Also if anyone happens to read this before midnight, today is your last day to enter in the giveaway The Backyard is holding. So hurry over! Remember you have to be signed in to your HSB account to view the posts.
Last, but not least. Be sure to go take a look at the contest Mara is holding at her blog Mutterings by Mara. The prize is a beautiful quilt, made by the lady herself.
Dec. 8, 2008 - Author Tag
I have seen this tag floating about, and as it looked like fun, I decided to do it.
Do you have a pen/pencil collection? How many of those are chewed? I have a collection of both that I don't use. They sit very nicely in my little tin on my dresser and look very jealously at the green mechanical pencil that has an honoured position by my notebook, sitting on my hope chest, next to my bed.
None of them have chew marks because I hardly ever pick them up, and it is really nasty and uncomfortable to chew on a mechanical pencil.
Do you prefer handwriting or typing furiously? Right now I would say handwriting. Just because it's uncomfortable for me to sit at the computer desk for hours on end while trying to write. When I get a laptop, the answer to this question will most likely change.
How often do you get inspiration? All the time. When I read a good book, when I read a horrible book, when I see a good movie, when I see a horrible movie, when I see interesting people at the store. When the wind is blowing through the trees.... the list goes on.
Are you blogging this on a computer or laptop? A desktop computer.
Do you get inspiration more in the early morning or late at night? Morning, afternoon, late at night! It flows in at all times.
Do certain movies/books/music inspire you? Um... I think I just answered this two questions ago.
How do you incorporate God into your stories? I normally don't. I admit, it is not easy for me to write about my faith, and my God in books. Short stories are a different thing.
Do you kill off your villains or make them repent? Well... the one book I have finished really did not have a villain. It was not that great.
The book I am writing right now, he is going to survive at the end to come back as even worse in the second book, but I can't decide what to do with him after that. I can't stand the though of killing him!
Is the majority of your characters magical beings, humans or halflings? Or something else? Humans.
What genre of writing are you most comfortable in? If you were to step out of your comfort zone, what would you write? Fantasy. I don't have to just stick with the facts. I can do what ever I want.
If I stepped out... I really have no idea what I would write. I think the one I would have to most trouble with is historical fiction.
Do you work better alone or with someone else? I can do both.
Do your stories make sense, or do they ramble wildly? I think every writer hopes their books make sense.
Are your characters mostly Renegades, Peacekeepers or a mish-mash? mish-mash.
Are you a sucker for good grammar? Grammar? What's Grammar? Oh yeah, that think I really can not do?
How is your handwriting? It could be better, but it's not that bad if I really try to write nicely.
How evil are your villains? Um well... in the book I am writer the villain is really a nice guy with the wrong ideas on who should be in the seat of power. In the book I am writer with a good friend of mine, he is really evil. Really.
Are you long-winded or succinct? Well, I'm not really sure. I think probably a little of both.
Do you have typical writer traits such as ink stains on your fingers or a pencil behind your ear? Um, I can't think of anything, unless taking what would be a normal sentence and changing the words to mean the same thing, but having every one around me in tears.... No I don't go that far. Every once in awhile I spout a rather dramatic sentence, but not that often.
Would someone walking past you on the street consider you normal? Um... um... I would hope so. I guess that depends on who I am with, and how I feel.
Do you write mostly poetry, stories, novels or a mixture? Well, I write mostly novels, but I also write a lot of short stories.
Do your characters vary in accents, appearance and attitude or are they mostly the same? My biggest challenge as a writer is making my characters different. They are all the same, describing them in a nutshell, perfect.
I have started to get better at it though and they now look as well as act a little differently. Most of my female mainish characters have green eyes though.
Do real people and/or places inspire your writing? The answer to this one would be yes.
How many blogs/websites/internet haunts do you have? A lot.
What is your favorite character? Or do you choose to remain unbiased in case of a revolt? Well Heskith may beat me over the head for it (he really is a nice guy) I would have to say Dugan. The villain of sorts in the book I am writing right now. I think he will turn into my biggest challenge as well.
Do you talk to your characters? Do they talk back? I always talk to my characters. They always talk back.
Are you more comfortable with girl or boy main characters? Boy. Did not even have to think for this one. I have always had trouble with my girl main characters. They either turn out perfect, or little brats.
Do you follow basic overused plot lines with new twists thrown in or do you depart from the norm all the time? Almost every writer uses the basic plot line, Good vs. Evil. Other then that, I wouldn't know.
Do you feel God has called you to be a writer/poet? Will you grasp the power of the pen? God has given be the gift of writing. If he wants me to develop that talent into becoming a published author, I don't know.
Feel free to grab it.
Dec. 4, 2008 - Prince Caspian - My Opinion
I know you have probably read many reviews on the newest Narnia movie, but after finally getting to see it, I just had to say something.
I'll start from the beginning.
The Fights:
I've heard a lot of people were unhappy because of the fist fight we find Peter in at the beginning. I found myself pleased with it. I had never looked at the fact that the Pevensies had been adults at one time. They were still adjusting to being children again. Thus the fight.
I've also heard complaining about Peter's raid. While thinking of the book, the whole thing screams "NO," at me, but while looking at it as a movie, it was a good addition. Peter had given up on Aslan, not a great thing. This raid was telling the audience that the kings and queens of Narnia couldn't do it alone.
I also noticed that the best was not given to Peter during this raid.
Edmund was late giving his signal because he was goofing off, something he never would have done if Aslan was depending on him.
The Romance:
I almost wouldn't even have called it that. I must say it was not as bad as I thought it would be. A "look," or two, and a quick, unessicary kiss. I was expecting it and braced myself.
The Characters:
Prince Caspian:
I had told myself a hundred times before watching the movie that I would not be happy with Prince Caspian, trying to get used to the idea.
I found that I was more pleased with him then I was with Peter.
Before seeing the movie I thought my biggest problem with him would be his age. My opinion changed after the watching. In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Ben Barnes will look the perfect age for his character.
Peter:
All I can say is that he used to be my favorite Pevensie. I was seriously displeased with his attitude, and his lack of faith in Aslan.
Susan:
Can someone please tell me what happened to Queen Susan the GENTLE? To me that does not mean running around shooting the bad guys as fast as you can, while wearing a war queen outfit. (her dress was cool though)
Edmund:
I think in Prince Caspian, anyone who still dislikes Edmund from his betrayal in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, would have a change of mind. Unlike Peter, his attitude was perfect. The only real flaw I saw was when he went with Peter on his silly little raid.
Lucy:
What a breath of fresh air. I thought I would be upset by the fact that they made her look so much older, but once again I was surprised. Her character I think was the one that stayed closest to C. S. Lewis's original.
Aslan:
I wish I had seen more of him. Really, this is all I can say. For those of you who thought, and were bothered that he was different from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, read on.
In each of the books Aslan has a new face. He was the same lion, but he was different in some ways. If that makes sense. That's what it seemed for me anyway. So I think Aslan was great!
The Rest:
I found it interesting that Peter's first battle in Narnia, his war cry was, "for Narnia!"
By his last one it had changed to, "For Aslan!"
One of those little details that made me happy.
The movie itself was amazing. The special effects, music, and acting were, just as good, if not better then I expected.
I'm ready to watch it again, and this time enjoy it as a movie.
Nov. 20, 2008 - Clean, Glorious Clean (sung to the tune of Food Glorious Food)
Oh, the satisfaction of having a clean room. After living in a pigsty for a month I finally decided to clean my room. It really was not that bad, just a few things laying about, a few beds needed to be made (we have a bunk bed) and a good vacuum.
So I walked into my room waved my little magic wand, closed my eyes, and said,
"bibbity bobbity boo."
When I opened my eyes, you wouldn't believe it!
Everything was still there. I guess next time I should try praying instead.
So I set to work and two hours later I walked out feeling like I had accomplished something.
I always know I did a good job, when one of my parents walks into the room and says
"Wooooow."
Really long, slow, and drawn out while turning in a circle to see everything.
Let me tell you, one of the best things in the world, is a job well done.
Nov. 18, 2008 - My Characters are Turning Into Dogs
I decided not to do the NaNoWriMo challenge this year. I really thought about it, but came to the conclusion that keeping my mind on the book I'm writing right now would be the best thing.
I set myself the goal of finishing it by midnight Jan. 1 2009. Even if I have to furiously scribble, as my family is watching a movie while they wait for The New Year to come.
This book is not turning out the way I had in mind (none of my books ever do)
This time when I sat down to write it I told myself to let my characters run wild, let them tell me who they want to be, and let them do what they think will be best for the story.
My problem is that it's not happening. I'm holding them in, keeping them on a leash.
One of my main characters is perfect. She is beautiful, gentle, kind, and loving. She has no flaws, and because of that she has become unreal.
My other main character is doing better, although he is quickly becoming perfect as well, he knows he shouldn't be. He reminds me constantly. To let him go and do his own thing.
The only thing that's happened that I didn't plan from the beginning, is a few extra characters who shoved there way into the story.
However I doubt they will save it.
So if you don't see me till the New Year, it's most likely I'll be teaching all my characters to heel.
Nov. 13, 2008 - I'm Embarrassed
Yes I'm back from my brake. I know it was a short one, but I have my computer back now. It's much easier to blog with a computer.
So because of my title you are probably wondering WHY I am embarrassed.
As I was gazing lovingly at my blog, admiring it's wonderful borders and colors, I happened to notice a small mistake. Yes it was a mistake, I'm not that horrible in spelling!
Above my links I had written Trials, instead of Trails as I had intended. It's been there sense I put up this template.
Well just so you know, Home, My Profile, Archives, Email Me, and My Blog's RSS are not trials for me. I hardly even notice they are there.
Oct. 29, 2008 - Minnie the Siamese Mouse
This is our newest cat. When I say newest I do not mean new. She has been living with us for almost a year now.
As to her name. Take your pic. Minnie, Minnie Lou, Minnie Mouse, Mouse, Mouse Queen, Fur Queen, Squeak Queen, Squeak, Squeakums, Squeaks, Squeakle Toes, Squeak Tum, Sweet one, Little one, or Tiny one.
That picture is not the greatest of her, it does not show her sweet, lovable self, but we don't have to many good ones. She just does not do well in front of the camera.
Minnie was the family inheritance when my Aunt Sissie passed away. We have been very pleased with her so far.
The reason she has so many Squeaks in the name list above is because of the way she meows. It is a very quiet little squeak sound that you have to be pretty close to hear. When she purs you don't hear it, you feel it. It starts as a funny feeling in the pit of your stomach and then turns into a deep rumble that makes you feel like your vibrating.
This is her worthy enemy, Great Katu of the Pink Pillow. I know what your thinking. How could that sweet little face be an enemy? Well let's just say he's not always as cute as he looks. Bigger post on him later.
So that's Minnie. Sweet maiden of the kitty food.
Wow, I can't believe how busy I have been, actually as I think back over what I was doing it really dose not sound like all that much.
One of the things that stopped me from blogging was school pictures. Every year the time comes unexpectedly, my Mom tells me one day, "school pictures is next week."
I groan wonder, what I will wear this year, and forget.
Then the day comes when my Mom wants to know what I will be wearing and my wardrobe is emptied as we try to figure out the problem.
We all end up leaving the house looking very nice from the center of the chest up. The rest of us won't be in the picture, so why get dressy?
So if you ever go to get your school picture taken, and you see someone with fancy hair, a pretty necklace and a beautiful blouse with the collar ironed very nicely into place, and the cuffs unbuttoned and in a ratty pair of jeans, you know they have been getting pictures for several years now.
Oct. 18, 2008 - I'm Horrible at Titles
For school I had to write an analogy... this is my analogy.
It had been a long day, I was tired, ready to go home, but as I started to walk towards my car, another one drove up and parked next to it.
As I got closer I realized it was an unfamiliar face. Sense I was the last one leaving the barn, I decided I should investigate.
"Can I help you?"
The man had just stepped out of his car, he had brown hair and looked to be in his mid 40's.
He smiled before answering.
"Maybe, can you tell me where I might find a Miss Springlin?"
Outward I appeared calm, inward I groaned.
"I'm Miss Springlin, what can I do for you?"
"Oh, well in that case, my names Justice, I came in response to your ad, the one for a horse trainer."
I looked him over,
"You train horses?"
"Yes Ma'am, I do."
"Are you good?"
His grin widened,
"I try to be."
"Well your going to have to do more then try if you want break this one. Come on back, I'll show you who you'll be working with."
I led him back towards the stable, then continued walking further back towards the round pen behind the barn. As we approached the dark mustang inside trotted towards us and waited by the fence.
"This is Shaniko, he's a 5 year old mustang, and I've been trying to break him to saddle for the last year."
Justice nodded,
"What's the problem?"
"He does fine till I put the saddle on, then he turns wild again, rearing and bucking up a storm. He does it every time and I just can't figure it out."
I cursed.
"I was just locking up so you can't work with him today, but if you can come back tomorrow around 10:00 you can start working with him."
He shook his head.
"That won't work for me, I'll be at church by 10:00."
I rolled my eyes, great, he was a religious nut. I just hoped he wouldn't start preaching at me like all the others I'd met.
I sighed,
"Same time Monday then?"
He nodded
"That will be fine."
"Great, see you then."
That Monday I was exercising my little quarter horse mare, when I looked up and saw Justice leaning on the fence.
I pulled the mare to a stop in front of him.
"He's in the same spot, you can find a saddle in the tack room."
"Okay, thank you."
He turned and walked back to the barn, whistling as he went.
I continued with the mare, although my mind was on Justice and Shaniko. Half of me expected him to come running back in a few minutes saying the the horse can't be trained, just like all the other hot shot trainers who had tried. Then again, my other half told me he was not the kind to give up easily, give up at all for that matter.
It turned out to be a busy day, as I was locking up I realized I hadn't seen Justice sense that morning and walked towards the corral, thinking he had left without telling me.
I was astonished to find Justice still with the mustang, simple standing next to the horse, scratching it's scruffy neck.
As I drew closer he looked up and smiled.
"Did you get the saddle on him?"
He laughed,
"I haven't even tried yet, we've just been getting to know each other."
He looked around,
"Is it closing time already? I hardly noticed it was getting late."
He patted the horse one last time, and gathered some of his things.
"Good thing I'm not paying him by the hour."
I mumbled as I drove away.
Justice continued to come the rest of that week, I didn't see much of what he was doing, but I heard from a few of the girls, that he mostly just sat with Shaniko, petting and whispering to him.
9 days of this passed when one day as I was locking up and realized Justice had not come to tell me he was leaving.
I smirked, he had probably given up and had been to ashamed to come tell me he couldn't break my horse.
I decided to go see how Shaniko was doing, but as I approached the round pen I almost fell over in surprise.
Justice was synching up the saddle, he had just finished when I walked up, the mustang stood calmly and I could hear Justice telling him what a good boy he was.
"How did you do it?"
He turned and just like all the other times, smiled at me.
"He's a wonderful horse, I didn't have any trouble at all."
"Sure took you long enough."
"Yeah, but I had the time, and it worked. I built up his trust in me, before I asked for more. I made sure he was ready to take the challenge."
He smiled again.
"I work just like the trainer who broke me."
I was confused.
"What do you mean?"
He led the mustang around the corral as he explained.
"By my trainer, I was talking about God. Before I was saved I was the worst you could get, but God walked in one day and started whispering to me. He kept it at a whisper for along time before He asked me for more.
After 34 years of riding bare back with the world, I put on the saddle of God."
The whole time he was talking I kept telling myself to walk away, or interrupt him. I don't know what, but something was stopping me.
Maybe it was how perfect that saddle looked.
