Well-we are reading At Home in Mitford for the book club book at HappyAtHome! I read this book many years ago but have been wanting to read it again to refresh my mind on the characters so I could continue to read the series. There are so many that follow this one now! For the ones who read here often you know I usually don't read fiction too much. I have always had the attitude I should read books that help me in some area being time is limited and as much as I love to read there is not always enough time but lately with the burdens of life I feel some good fiction would allow some healthy escape and maybe just want the Lord wants for me now!
Anyway the first week's assignment was to read chapters 1-8. They want us to tell about our favorite characters in the book. This is so hard because all the characters are just wonderful and even the grumps bring something so wonderful to the story but I thought I would tell a few that really stand out to me.
Well I LOVE the preacher of course-Father Tim- He loves his town and his church. He gives all to this ministry God has given him, he is very understanding of his people even with their flaws! He has come to love this dog who loves him and its fun to watch the relationship of them two grow into something wonderful! The town loves him and looks up to him for sure, they gave him the greatest birthday suprise!
I also love Emma-she can be difficult at times but I can relate to her character too! She takes care of Father Tim as his secretary. She keeps him on task and is a real worker! You can tell she has a real respect for him and although its hard for her to show emotion you find yourself knowing that she has a soft side!
Miss Sadie- Not only is she a giving person, wow! But I love the fact that she has passion for what she wants, even in her older age. Not only does she want a nursing home built she wants all the bells and whistles in it as well. So that the people who live there can still enjoy life, great books, a fountain, a greenhouse, live birds. If only we did make nursing homes that exciting. Wouldn't it be great to do this in real life for our elderly?
And of course the town Mitford. Wouldn't we all love to live there? A small town with so much beauty and love? You can just picture yourself living there and knowing everyone! How wonderful it would be to walk around this wonderful place.
We read chapters 9-16 this coming week, come join us!
